Don't see a groove in sprocket. Tight side is driverside of engine, right?

I think when everyone says 42 links, they mean roller pins. There are only 20 "links" between the marks. Double that =40, add 4 =44. Does not add up

What is the structure near the tunnel. Looks like a channel or rail. It's a few inches away from the floor hat channel.

New chain is a Mellings, no shiny links.

It says in the fsm that there are 42 "links" between marks. I have 20 "links" = 40 pins plus one on either link to the sprocket marks = 42. Is that the right was to look at it? mine were also in hole #1. I am replacing with new parts.

I am going to replace the timing chain and related components. Its on an engine stand, oil pan off, head on. Any tips or tricks I should know?

Zed, i agree with you on that zx info, its jacked up. I have a 79 driveshaft from my brothers car, way different. So if i ordered an off the shelf driveshaft like a domans for a 75 car iam 99% sure it would be wrong. Hard to believe 75 had a one year part but i guess its possible.

Well, if anyone here or in the world replaces their 280z u-joints for under $100, take lots of pics and videos. You will be a hero and an envy of every driveshaft shop.

Zed. You are full of it! I have a stack of 240 drive shafts and the flange pattern is smaller for sure. Youre wrong!

I clicked on that link: New R200 driveshaft to rear differential flange. This has 10mm bolt holes. The bolt hole spacing measures 1.9" and 2.25" center to center for bolt holes. This yoke flange can be used on Datsun Z cars 1970-83 with R200 rear differential. This flange has 10mm holes. 240z, 260z and early 240z use the R180 rearend. This is why 280z driveshafts wont fit 240, 260 and early 280's. The bolt pattern is different. If it fits that means someone changed it to the R200

What happened to the 260z driveshaft?

Yes, 1/10 off each side. You are good at math, they are not. Thats huge, almost an 1/8 of an inch each side. The flats on the yolk are too wide (1.6) for the 1.4 u-joint. Notice that 1. no one shares pictures of the job they claimed to have done and 2. there is no shop that rebuilds them. If its a 30 minute $100 job were are the shops that do it. I have called a few dozen across the nation and NONE will do it. Another HUGE problem is the way the yoke is cast. Its made for an outer clip not inner. Inner clip yokes have have a flat area for the clip. The 280Z yoke area is tapered, cant be used for inner clips. I also dont believe a 260z driveshaft will fit a 280z. People have said that but when I ask for flange mounting dimensions they all come back with the smaller 240z style.

I have seen both of those. Unproven B S. The rockford will never work on a 280z. The lock point is too small. The caps might fit but if its not locked properly its a hazzard.

I have been reading posts and videos claiming the u-joints can ve replaced using the rockford 430-10 ujoint. Fact is it CANT be replaced. The 430 had a lock of 1.4", yolk on a 280z is 1.6", its too big. No one makes a ujoint that matches. Some post said a guy used a place in portland that did it for $100. I called the shop and they said it cant be done. Lesson: dont believe what you read in the internet.

THere are nuts welded to the bottom the floor pan. Bolts go thru into the nuts. I dont see any bracket, strange.

Does anyone make door jambs for the body, not the door. Rear quarters and lower a pillar? Maybe even a full rear quarter.

Does anyone sell 4 hole custom wheels for the 280z. Maybe 15". Would like black rims with chrome ring.
