1st Drive 2024
The only thing with a donor pump you need to be very careful when removing the rubber seal, one nick and you’re screwed. To bad rebuild kits are a rare item these days. Crazy how an entire pump is cheaper then a kit..

Brake Master Cylinder 46010-E4602 - Up to 9/1971
When I got mine, it was frozen as well. Let it sit in a bucket of wd-40 for a few days, then put it in a vice and used an air compressor to blow everything out. It cleaned up nicely, with no issues.

1st Drive 2024
Bought it off eBay, listing was for “BRAND NEW NIKKI FUEL PUMP 271070” for $100. Not sure what it was originally for. Pump only had 2 mounting holes. I just used the guts to retain my original pump. All pieces matched fine. Looks like jdm-car-parts sells an actual rebuild kit, for an eye watering $125.

1st Drive 2024
Fresh from winters hibernation, took Z out for a short ride. Hit a mile stone of 70,000 miles. All good until I returned home and found my recently cleaned motor had oil sprayed on passenger side of motor and firewall. Found the pump decided to blow oil out of the weep hole. Over the winter I bought a new Nikki fuel pump, rebuilt the top half of the original pump. The bottom part containing the rubber shaft seal appeared to be fine so it wasn’t changed. Cleaned up the mess then removed and disassembled pump, sure enough the seal was torn.. Luckily I saved the remains of the donor fuel pump, swapped out the seal and reassembled, hopefully it last another 54 years.

Painting TOPY wheels
*So I’ve been trying to find a “correct” black paint to match my TOPY wheel. Despite googling several searches with no luck, I tried a few types of paint flat, matte, etc. none looked right when comparing to my original spare. By chance I had a can of black high temp stove paint. Gave it a try and was surprised to see it was a very close match to my spare. The paint used is Black Rustolem High Heat. For inside the wheel, I used Seymour Alumiblast, which is a bit to bright compared to the spare. Does anyone know of a closer matching paint?

Rear Brake help! Metal on Metal Grinding Noise
If no visible wearing is found, could be a bad bearing. They can make quite a screach.

Z's on BAT and other places collection
I don’t recall a lot of tuning being required, my 260 would constantly sputter to a stop whenever it got hot during the summer. It would restart after a brief cool down, and then act up again. Tried multiple fixes (added 2nd electric pump instead of mechanical one, wrapped all fuel lines, ran copper fuel line in front of radiator) all to no avail. To date, the worst car I ever owned.

I also purchased many braided hoses from Belmetric, great source.

Z's on BAT and other places collection
Bet the new owner is quite happy with this purchase, I would be.. Looks pretty good for an older restoration, pretty much original. Crazy how in this same collection the 77 ZZZAP with an automatic sold for over $110k.

One Owner 1970 Blue/Blue
Seems like early Z values have taken a sizable hit lately. Some nice low vins on BAT not even hitting $30k. Hope it hits $100+k.

12/70 original spare tire - DOT 149
After seeing this post, I just checked my (12/70) Z’s spare also a Toyo Z-1. Didn’t realize I had a 53 year old tire.

I believe Datsun stopped listing the engine # after 1976, on the data plate.

Z's on BAT and other places collection
Pics 87-90 are concerning, don’t recall this area being a common point for rust. Prices have certainly taken a hit over the last few months for early (1970) Z’s. The white one yesterday barely hit $27k.

Looks like pretty rough shape.. The headliner, visors, and mirror look good. Solid steering wheel appears correct just missing paint.

D hubcap changes
I contacted Resurrected Classics they’re not making later style D hubcap. Has anyone bought these hubcaps? Comments?

D hubcap changes
Great. Wasn’t aware anyone was making the hubcaps. They appear to sell just the earlier style, although don’t see why they couldn’t punch the valve hole under the cutout. Looks like they are sold out til November. Has anyone bought them, if so comments? Still looking to determine when the style change occurred.

D hubcap changes
As I’m searching for the correct wheels / hubcaps (12/70), does anyone know what month the style change (valve moved to slot and 41 tabs) was made? From what I’ve found they appear to change mid 70?

Palco/Dashtop interior panels
Dashtop.com looks like most pieces are $200. a pop. If their quality is good, it’s a good option. Hate taking my pieces out since they’re so flimsy and brittle.
