Where are the girls??.
That is why SHE must be obeyed! To keep you on the straight and narrow instead of the wide and rambling! Yet another reason we need ladies on these threads....I knew I would find some appropriate thread content if I looked far enough! Will

The making of reproduction parts.
Jim, I'll look into that-I may even have a spare to work from-I have been saving S30 parts for years, and it seems to me I have one I intended to work into my 240...I planned to give it all of the upgrades Datsun made to the S30 family that would fit! Will

Where is the best place to start?
The last pieces should be those with finished seams-they will cover the unfinished seams on the other parts. On the factory setup the tunnel was installed first, then the rockers, and the piece on the riser behind the seats was last-as it was the only piece with finished seams. Carpet came after the vinyl. The making of reproduction parts.
Dave, I'll order some of the clear and black on Monday, and hopefully finish the molds before they get here. I have seen the 10mm male available somewhere, I'll go back through some of my stuff and see what I can find. Will

New guy saying Hello (79' Fairlady RH Drive)
Welcome! Double check the actual code, more often than not, it can also be parked on or parallel to an existing driveway(or behind a fence in the back yard)and covered and still be within code:laugh:. The parties interested in seeing it gone will often leave out the parts of the actual code that do not fit their view of what needs to happen with the car:eek:. If you don't check, and most don't, they win because of you believe their Readers Digest version of the code-I am just the sort to expose their game:p. Will

The making of reproduction parts.
yup! Considering casting them in Aluminum to make polishing out easy and to avoid the added expense of plating plastic... WIll

The making of reproduction parts.
Dave, I am way ahead of you on the clear boots-and the coil boots, and the injector boots-making them in clear/black silicone means that they are heat proof, color fast, non-hardening, and are almost ready for casting! I need these for finishing up my car. On the taillight trims, I have experimented with cast aluminum-tough to get the molds just right-machinable wax and conventional plaster both shrink as they solidify, and the specialty plaster that actually is dimensionally matched for casting machinable wax is sold only by the pallet load-I could use 100 lbs of plaster for all of my projects and still have some left over, so buying and storing 900lbs or more is just too much. I am working with an overseas company to have a good many parts reproduced, and this is proving to be a slow negotiation as they don't want to grant me exclusive purchase rights on pieces I have personally designed, and they want to price everything to the sales price(as they determine it), and not to the cost of production plus a reasonable profit for them. It may be time to look further-fortunately they have only photos and dimensions, not actual samples. Will

Where are the girls??.
Basically, there is a single qualifier, rudeness to other members. Consider this the warning, remember, unless statements are inflammatory, youth, mistakes, or, just plain stupidity are pretty much forgiven-to a point. Inflammatory, baiting, or overtly insulting comments will get an unfavorable response from the moderators almost immediately-hence this warning.. A list of facts(even with some wiggle room) is difficult to take as inflammatory or offensive, but an offending opinion is easy to spot and calls for a slathering preparation H. I may agree with your opinion, but that agreement does not mean someone has been offensive, and offensive is not welcome here. If you don't like someone, put them on your ignore list, if you can make a logical case for why they should not be here, PM it to me, I will review posts and respond privately. Will

The making of reproduction parts.
Jim, I have one more place to look-I know I had a good one. Joseph-not me... The molds are almost done, but I am still running into the problem of the materials that are available to cast the parts in being short lived. I am experimenting with a few choices at the moment, and hopefully one will pan out, otherwise we will have great looking parts for the cars that spend most of their time out of the sun, and/or in cooler climates, and parts that last a year or two for the drivers(prolonged heat ultimately causes them to sag, and the UV exposure causes chalking-even through a topcoat). 72 stock seat one is "crooked"
No pictues-dead battery in the camera-go figure 140 pictures today... But in looking at the "big Pictues", I think that you have some of two or three things bent, the actual seat back, the Lever from the pivot to the seat mack mounting, and maybe even the mounting plate on the seat bottom. The bent arm between the seat mechanism and the seat back should have two bends in it, and have three flat areas-if one or more is bowed-as I suspect-(look at the one from the other seat), there is the proof! 72 stock seat one is "crooked"
Try this: place the seat back flat on the floor and measure the distance from the mounting holes to the floor on each side, I think you will find the seat back has been twisted-the alignment of the upholstery leads me to this-one side is positioned as mine is and the other side has more of the bolster panel where it should not be-not a situation lending itself to a problem with the mechanism-in my opinion. I have an un-upholstered '72 seat back on the porch, and when the boys get to bed, I'll take some pics and measurements and post them for your review. WIll

The making of reproduction parts.
Jim, Sure, I'll give it a shot, I'll check tomorrow to see if I have one to save you some time and shipping. John, The Hazzard switch would be a tough one, I would think the contacts could be rebuilt far easier and cheeper than I could make a copy-the walls of the assy are so thin, they are not condusive to pour casting, and while I do intend to get into injection molding, the molds are seriously more intense, as is the molding procedure! I believe The seal is already being made by precision, and sold by several of our vendors... WIll

New Vinyl install....???
I've been using weldwood for years with no issues-the last four or five I used the gel version, and found it easy to work with-not that the non gell is difficult... Eill

The making of reproduction parts.
Joseph, I will check into that-I restored my harnesses already, and I know MSA has one of the Grommets listed, Ed made one as well-I do some research and see what is already made, and what needs to be-thanks for the suggestion! MikeB, I would welcome the parts, especially the plugs-mine are deformed, and I ma not looking forward to working on something that small to straighten. Mike, I have several NOS copies for both sides-I bought two every time one broke-I figured they were still available. I'll add them to the list! Xray, I need the gasket for the passenger side door mirror I am having parts made for. So far it looks like these will have to be hand assembled and the convex mirror will have to hand cut...lots of time in each one. Looks like tomorrow is a go! Will PS John!!!!
