Hit up your local auto parts store for chrome door edge trim-I think you will find it pretty close to what you are looking for-and for about $8 a side! The OEM rings are as wide as the stainless window frame-actually wider than I would like. The OEM covers are tough to fit as well, I sat mine on a headlight bucket to check fit, and was not impressed. It may be worth it this time to actually start with a headlight bucket and not the OEM covers-no since reproducing a fitment issue-I have worked on this project before... Will
  10. Warning-when you mix a cute wife and a hot tub you will need to take heed of this warning: Don't let Bill Ramsey fool you into a visit-all he knows about Zs is you can't get there from here-and he learned that from another member-luckily he still is having some problems with identifying anatomy(search "breats and thights")!! I have a good friend in Kettering, Not a Z nut, but next year when I visit, I'll arrange some Garage time with you...I also have another member in the are to look up and work on a joint project...The National Convention will be in Cleveland, OH. next year-gotta get your Z ready for the trip! Will
  11. As long as we can call it Art and not porn, you're good! Will
  12. DO'oh! Will Ed-I'd move in the second port to see that conversion! Will
  13. What does your Z want for the holidays? a bath and a hand wax job! Keep down the snickers Rick and Bill! A new short shifter-what is it with you guys! A fresh set of rubber-ok, that's just enough! If I didn't come up with your answer, please post it here!
  14. I have an answer, but as much as I believe it is right, it isn't really the answer to your question... Anyway... Look at Bryan Littles Z Garage-from what his experience and practices show, a P90(P90A-if you want quiet) shaved and shimmed is the best in the evolution of the common factory L6 heads. His coverage of the differences in the heads will probably give you what you are looking for in terms of comparison-I'll post a link unless someone beats me to it... Will head link...but check out the entire site-it's that good! http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html

Howdy Chris! Happy Holidays to you too! Fred got to me-thanks! Mine have the tell-tale color discoloration from the plating process-and the added "blue" of chrome plating. I haven't seen a rusted set, but I have seen a set with the small dots like the Heater control panel develops from having the copper under the chrome corrode from the lack of a nickle plate between the two. Stainless does not do that! Will Yo E!

I did a ton of research on automotive wood assembly and finishes in exploring making a burl walnut flat dash for my 68 2000. Everything I read boiled down to the following: Lacquer and pearl glue make for beautiful woodwork that will need a fair level of maintenance, but any damage is easily stripped and repaired. Current Urethane products make long lasting and stable woodwork that is quite difficult-if not imposable(relatively speaking)-to strip and repair. The Modern polyurethane finishes that are typically available are much better at consistent color and protection than they are at showing the "Magic in the wood" that lacquer based finishes have proven through time to be so wonderful at. The rim has been proven to be made of resin-impregnated wood fibers, and it did not have a barrier coating on it, meaning its need for refinishing is due to three things: surface wear, surface dirt and steady solvent evaporation(same thing that can cause the dash to crack) from the resin. What ever you do to prepare and refinish the wheel has to deal with all three Having said that, I sandblasted the spokes spotless, and sanded the rim as smooth as a babys butt, And applied many thin coats of black appliance epoxy to the spokes and used spar varnish on the rim-slightly overlapping the edges of the epoxy. 18. Could be, but if you weren't going to mount it, seems to me you would have left it in the bag and box it originally came in. Will

If rice is nice that would make this nice rice-lots of work for what the rest of the world would still look at and identify as a 350Z. Will

Yup! I am hoping to beg, borrow, temporarily appropriate at least one for use as a model. I have pictures and some measurements from Kats, but in making a truly faithful reproduction, nothing beat having an example to pattern from and to. If anyone has an example or set I can borrow, I'll send you a set of reproductions with the return of your originals, and put that project ahead of all others to make the turnaround fast. Will

A used car hauler is a good second garage-it gets around most neighborhood covenants and all building permit/land use requirements. They can be bought cheeper than a similar sized wood portable building It can be climate controlled and fully insulated for around $700, and though not really big enough to do everything in, quite a bit can be done, left in progress. unlike a conventional garage, moving it as difficult as renting a truck and hooking it up, or as easy as hooking up your own or a borrowed truck.
