  1. I would treat everything with metal ready, wipe it down with laquer thinner, let dry, and weld in the new panels. Then retreat with metal ready, wipe down again with laquer thinner, and after everything is totaly dry, use the POR. Por is thick, the overlap will be noticeable if you paint it first then weld. Get it all at the same time-POR is messy enough without adding the complexity! Will
  2. Maybe that should be a part of the Technical Articles Section-and an index placed on the front page?

Have you taken out all of the bolts-the row at the top, the one in the door opening, the two under the Valence Panel(covers the windshield wiper mechanism), and the two at the bottom? There are also those that hold on the headlight bucket(behind the front grill)-if you haven't taken it loose from the fender(3 nuts in the wheel well)-careful of breaking the studs! Obviously a service manual-or the Club CD-would be invaluable in knowing what is holding all of the stuf on! Will PS. PBlaster works very well, but it stinks-don't sneak out to the car to spray something right before a date!
  4. Look at the photo in the link, you need two pieces that overlap and are offset to keep the position of the chain and the drive shaft the same. have the chain procket cut off on one, and the center cut out of the other one, have a "step" (to accomodate the offset) machined into each piece, and mating holes drilled (elongated in the piece holding the chain sprocket) and tapped. That would give you an adjustable piece with factory fitament. I know a picture would be better, but I can't find one of the OEM piece. Will
  5. Shouldn't be too tough (or as expensive) to have two original gears set up to do the same by a machine shop! Will
  6. We South Georgians are allowed special consideration(especially those who drive 240Zs and Miatas!). Some say it is because we's slow, but they don't say much after that, those that are left know we kill what we don't understand-and figured it out 'fore they opened their mouths to let too many words fall out! On the unknown letters, they aint no "where" to it! You mispelled the first word you din't know what was-an its a good old suthern word too! You AUTS to know that! :cheeky: The second is that stuf that drains out a severely oil change challenged engine-UK!-now to be sure I did try the search function, but they wasn't in there! The back of Burke is to fer a spell to count anyways, if a 12 gauge cain't reach it, it aint there! Seriously, they is both over yonder, past the back 40, and across the pond! I hope that gives you a good feelin' bout where that lot is! Will PS. How much "learning" would we lose if the threads didn't wander? I use all free tools at least once, the ones that work, I use all of the time!

I knew better! but I did honestly consider (even if for the briefest moment) sending him the original floors from my '72 for his collection! Will

Chris, aren't there some buildings (maybe a garage for 27) you need to design-someone will take you literally, and think rust makes a car faster! No feelings were killed in the production, typing, or reading of this message, any resemblance to even hurt feelings was purely conicidental, and should not be taken as fact. In the event that actual feelings were hurt, damaged, crushed, mangled, mutulated, railroaded, run over, or simply not considered, please accept my humble appology right now, and know that it was not my intention to slap you silly. But, the inclusion of this message in theis thread in this forum was -in fact-a conscious decision on my part, and Mike, his family, those who could be his family, be it by marriage, genetic manipulation, dumb luck, or any other means are not liable for anything I have typed. Please excuse him, all of the members here, and any one you happen to pass on the street (or not) from any responsability for this specific post. Have a great day-unless you don't want to, I hope your car runs like a bat out of hell-unless you don't want it to, I hope you get everything you want for your birthday-unless you weren't born, and in short I hope everything you are after that does not infringe on anyone elses right to do waht they want-comes your way--unless you smoke. I am certianly not saying you are an idiot. I am saying you gave great taste in cars, great loads of enthusiasm, and passion-all of those are wonderful things that will serve your 240z well, and make even problems more enjoyable! What i am saying is that there are some things that as a person new to the Zcar, you don't yet know how to recognize-and that places you in the unexperienced area that has not been proven to be in the same stratosphere with idiot land. I am trying to save you the frustration of spending all of the time, energy and money that your enthusiasm and passion will push you too on this car-until you know beyond any doubt that your currently chosen car should not have been a source of parts for another one. I am extatic to see a new member with such fervor! I just want to ensure that it continues to grow, and does not get mired in the frustration of a project car that needs too much to be safe and sported around. Your car may not have the problems I suspect. You are new to these wonderfull pieces of mortorized art, all I am advising is get some one more familiar with them to check it out for you before unleashing your addrenalin on fixing it up! Will
  10. If you don't want to get the most out of the club by using all of the tools it has to help you, there is no way our patience will make up for that. WHen you need a 10mm socket, and there was one in your tool box last time you looked, do you immediately get up, and go bother your neighbor for one? No, you open the tool box, and spend a minute or two looking, then if you don't find it, you go ask the neighbor. The search is the same thing, No where has it been required that you exhaustively search the archives for hours or days before posting a question, it has been suggested that you might get answers to most newbie questions faster by searching the archives. That is as much to help you faster as it is for anything else. There is a saying about lerading a horse to water, but not being able to make him drink-don't be the horse that dies of thirst. Will
  11. Everyone needs a little stress relief after two hours pummelling a spindlepin into mushrooms! Boobs are the first stress relief we are introduced to, and when something works, we stick to it!!! Will

The 240Z does not have a frame, I would absolutely get someone who is familiar with them to have a look-check my gallery, the orange car looked like it had no real rust problems-once the sound deadening and undercoating were removed, the truth came to light-rail rust was not bad enought for replacement, but had to be patched. I'm not trying to be negative, but it is easier to inspect thoroughly than to replace sheet metal. The turbo car uses the same flywheel/clutch assembly as a 2+2, so buy the parts for it if you are ultimately going that route so as not to have to buy another one. The digital fuel injection in the turbo cars was a real PITA when it started having problems-use something else-Custom EFIs, SDS, Mega squirt, Haltech, etc... to avoid that bite in the arse! Will

  15. I can understand both sides to this, it is rude to give a "wizz-off check the archives" answer, but it is also rude to ignore the book lying on the table that probably holds the answer, by not taking a moment to check the search function for an immediate answer. One person might read a question and think: "I spent the better part of an hour typing, and three hours doing and taking pictures on the answer to that very question, does this yahoo not think enough of my time to do a little free research on his own. It is kind of like not using a blinker to indicate a lane change in heavy traffic. Blinkers are standard in all cars for a reason, just like the search function is standard in this forum. I bet this lazy bastard don't need no stinking instructions when he goes to remove a spindle pin-until he has to take it somewhere to get the mushrooms taken care of." This guy Posts some scornful message about using search. Another guy reads the same question and thinks: "Let him figure out the answer on his own-I don't have time for his chatter." Does not post. A girl in a babydoll t-shirt reads the question and thinks: "I wonder what his butt looks like-oow, I can't write that..." Does not post I think a polite reference to the search is appropriate for any question taking more than three sentances(and not the Walt Whitman kind) to answer properly. Adding a link to the answer shows that indeed the search function held the answer, and should initially be a part of that routine. The Search function is yet another free and most excellent tool Mike has chosen to make available. If you had no tools, but had a 240Z that needed some parts replaced, and If I gave you a free set of Matco Wrenches would you use them (Dont' hold your breath)? Then why wouldn't you use the search functiion. Spend a minute or two to see if the answer can be found NOW instead of waited on. If you have a question on a previously posted answer found by the search function, I can tell you from experience that a PM is welcomed. By not using the search function you are really cheating yourself. Unless you use the search function, you will not encounter the answers from present and past members who spent a great deal of time and effort to impart their knowledge into this collective through the archives-their knowlerdge is always available, but only in a search. Will
  16. I think the official term would be: "Not on my track!" Can you imagine an accident in one of those cars? Will

Welcome! I hate to say this, but, make sure the car is structurally sound before doing anything else-don't dump money in what could be only a parts car-where are you, maybe another member could take a look, and occasionally lend a hand! Will
  19. Just an update! About 100 feet of tape(a roll and a half), just over two hours, several shoprags and the dash harness is unwraped, wires cleaned(insulation only), and re-wrapped(connections and connectors are for another day-I am going to clean(deoxit100), flux, solder the connectors to the wires, and clean the flux residue with deoxit 100, let dry, then flush and lubricate with deoxit5.) Will

  21. There is nothing better than wiping the smile off a vette/firebird/camero/mustang owner with a car with a stock looking straight 6-make them feel pain-beaten badly by a "factory" six cyl 30 someodd year old car-is the way. How bad can a V8 guy feel? Build a L28 and find out how wicked your dark side truely is! Make it an absolute sleeper, and tell them it is factory-if you can keep the poker face going! Poor guys don't stand a chance-and they have too many cubic inches between their ears to know better! Building a V8 gives you a fun car, but not a suprising car-getting unexpected performance out of an engine is suprising-especially to those you just left in the dust and glow of your taillights! Build it to make you happy, but know what will make your happy before you build it. Will
  22. That's just the dash harness!! The half on left has been done(both branches), the right half is still being unwrapped. Will
  23. I am rewrapping my dash harness between keystrokes-I am putting the factory tags back on-but only wiping them off with a damp cloth-the ink runs with cleaner. Will

Wait a minute Chris, 27 needs you to work, work, and work some more! Will
  25. What about the song, "In heaven there is no Beer"? or the Philosophers drinking song from Monty Pithon! Do they(the songs) have as much ado about taillights? Will
