I didn't realize a restoration program car would seem to have the wrong parts, and a restored dash with the lighter hole still covered, and a poorly restored console. Vicky, Scott, Chris, Z police, what do you think? Will
  2. Chris, Looks like you had her chrome plated-not cleaned! What a clean canvas! TomoHawk, in my young and Gene pool challenging days, I pretty much did that with an electric shaver and a sink full of water(fortunately-the sink was fully glazed. Still woke me up and made me fly right! I don't think I let it sit long enough to clean anything though! Will

Come on Carl, "Most" means at least 51%! I am looking for the inexpensive cars for parts and pieces-if they had nothing wrong, they probably wouldn't be in the $50-$200 price range-I buy more of those than the ready to drive and enjoy variety! With the engine coming out anyway, this repair is not that tough! a permacoil kit(incl 12 stainless steel inserts) is $30 A single helicoil kit runs about $12 Could it be we have more honest Mechanics? (he sells the things, and makes his own captive market-higher volume lower cost) Will

Most Z-and ZXs I have seen have the last bolt on the exhaust manifold broken off-this is a very common problem. Any shop that wants to keep you as a customer, and not simply rape you once and let you go, can normally repair this problem with no Drama, a right angle drill with a lefthand drill bit(or an EDM) will remove the broken bolt, then there is replacing the bolt-and maybe a helicoil iinsert. It does take some skill to drill square in such tight quarters, but, with any luck, the repair should take about an hour(some things must come out to make room for the drill or the edm). but no longer than 3 hours. Parts should be no more than $25, and you should get to keep the drillbit! Labor should be between $50 and $150. Worst case, the head has to come off-then you are in the $400-500 range, and should probably consider having more work done since you are already having to pay for it being taken apart and put back together. Will PS, The L series engines will easily run 250,000 miles with decent maintenance, I have opened up a couple with more than 500,000 that looked new inside. If you keep fluids and filters, changed, and the cars tuned up, they are better than energizer batteries... Will

Even a "capped" dash can be restored. Silicone adhesive is not permanent when used to glue to something that will eventually crumble! Restoring a dash with or with out a cap is not a problem. I would never use a half cap, but a full cap, properly installed, looks much better than cracks, and though not as nice as a restored dash, more than good enough to clean up a nice, well kept car with a cracked dash. Other than the members here, or judges at a car show, who is really going to look that close!
  6. The Nissan book, 280ZX, stated the drag coefficients of the 240Z t0 be .467 Will
  7. Thanks!!! Will
  8. Michael, Thanks for the tip! I hadn't thought of it, just whipped everything out on the Grill to take the picture of the three and threw the ruler up there for scale-Next time I will take some time and "set" the picture. EricB-take and post a picture of your JDM horn button-please! Will

I agree with you Mike, but it is just that synergy that I hope will have members posting! I don't think too many members would have quams about replacing a good many things, but I want to find out if there are any taboo items in the collective! I am partial to the Lseries engine-not necessarily the one that came with the car, but one in the right series. I have absolutely no attatchment to Dealer installed options-the A/c sucks a$$, it is getting replaced, but don't think the controls are going to change! I like the look of the car, I just want it to perfrorm better. I want that AC to freeze me out of the car when I ask it to. What parts(tires, batteries, fluids) are no brainer exchanges, and what parts require more serious thought(braided hoses?). I am hoping for member opinions here! Will
  11. I really like the way that looks, But around here, those pipes would have gone under the back tires in less than a week-looks like 2-3 inches of ground clearance. My driveway would take care that even with sectioning struts! Will

When is it ok to change a part from a "factory" (there is that word again) part to a non-Nissan part? What makes your opinion right? Will
  13. Listen ya big dummy, Listen, when Grady took over the magazine, He never said he was an expert on keeping track of details, You know Grady, I'll go lock Ester in his office, that'll keep him on the details, and he out of our house... "How can I be sure...." Will

  15. Autocad Revision 10. Designcad has a converter built in, The epson dot matrix Printhead scanner upgrade came with a converter. Most of the shareware libraries have a free converter in them. While I do not have a favorite-I use the one built into designcad- here is a list of a few available on TUCOWS. Raster to Vector This stand-alone program converts scanned drawings, maps and raster... 16. Why not scan Line art in and use a scalar to vector converter? Swapping from jpg, gif, tip or even psd to DFX or anyother vector format is a very simple thing-I think R10 and newer have the converter as part of the package-if not there are shareware converters readily available. Will
  17. Ed, I took pictures of the vent area, and found that it is not as bad as I first thought. A couple of well fitted patches should take care of that. Let me know what you want for the other parts. Thanks, Will
  18. I have always done as Ed did, but with Marvel Mystery Oil-it doesnt "dry" as fast as WD40. Will

If Carls suggestions don't clear it up, remove the sensor, clean the treads on it and the threads it screws into, and you will have probably solved the problem, years ago I had the same chase going on, and it turned out to be corrosion in the threads! Will
  20. Ed, On the Quarter Windows, I don't need the glass, if another member can use it-but I'll take it if no one else wants it-don't take the time to take it apart... I'll get a couple of pictures of the Hvac area out tomorrow. Thanks, Will
  21. On the ZX, just swap the turbo sending unit for the non turbo sending unit-all of the fuel and vent lines are in the sending unit. Will
  22. ED, Just for claritys sake, I am talking about the Stainless parts of the quarter windows(the ones I polished out have dents in them) And the actual grip and chrome part of the ebrake handle. I can send a picture of what I need on the HVAC area if it will help. Will
  23. Hey Ed, How are the frames of the quarterwindows, and the ebrake handle? and the opening through the cowl for the hvac fan(opens to the Pass footwell) Thanks, Will
