Alan, I apologize, I missed some points, and did not make mine clear in several instances. Actually, my question was: "Does s a genuine Nissan part for an S30 of the correct year count as a modification in the modified classes?" I asked it to be certain of the class my car would fall into given the fact that the rules make no express reference to model destination. There is no obligation to share anything. Some people simply choose to criticize rather than participate in a solution, and I don't agree with the logic that supports criticism without first attempting to be active in a solution. I did not mean to push my beliefs on you, again, I apologize. While I did miss some of your meaning, I have never felt you were in "asshole" status, and I have learned a great deal from your "pipe up"s. There was no need to remind me, I pointed it out in the quote(diamonds-are quite valuable, especially yours!) My intention was not to reprimand you, but I seein my expression of my meaning I absolutely was not clear. Please allow me to dispel a few things about my project for you. 1) I have donated hundreds of hours, and a couple of thousand dollars in materials. I am not selling anything or getting anything marketable for my donations-other than a single copy of the finished project. A couple of members have chosen to cover return postage of their materials, and offered to do more. 2) Along the lines of sending rare S30 related documents through the mail. Kats offered to send some items that fit the description to me when I asked for help with collecting info showing the differences between the USA and other versions of the cars roughly a year ago, and I told him exactly the same thing I will now tell you. I don't want any such rare pieces to have any more exposure to damage or loss than they do where you choose to store them on a daily basis. I prefer to have scans because the materials owners have absolute control over the handling of their materials, and yes, it saves my time. 3) As a matter of fact I recently started working on a blanket universal copy write exemption for all technical and advertising documentation pertaining to the entire family of S30 cars. I have no Idea how Nissan will respond, but as I pointed out in my correspondence with them, the materials in question are no longer in use at the dealers or the corporate offices(at least here in the States), and as such no longer are in use by Nissan such that there is even a need for a copy write(a copy write(again, here in the States) is there primarily to protect the income stream from intellectual property and to protect how the property is used-Nissan no longer sells documents pertaining to the S30 so they have income to lose from the clubs use of their S30 documents, and the documents will still be used for supporting the cars to their owners. ) Obviously I missed more of your meaning. Contributions to the project form overseas translate directly into more knowledge available of the cars of other markets cars-helping to spread the awareness and knowledge of them as very viable and instrumental parts of the Z heritage. If you saw a link to information on most every variant of the S30 family on the opening menu to a parts cd, could you successfully fight the temptation to explore them? I couldn't!
  2. How can you find what you are looking for if you don't know at least part of it? Will
  3. The stainless was the last thing on my mind...hatch glass, Emblems, seatbelts, hcp, coat hanger knobs, core support air plenums, console, switches, gas filler door, hose clamps, rearview, antenna trim, complete choke cable assy, carbs, tool kit, tool kit hanger, clock, and that is without being there with tools! Let me know what you find out! Will
  4. Sounds like a good situation to get local clubs to enter NASA as a team and field a car. Will
  5. I'd be finding out who owns it and paying for picking it for early parts. Will

Alan, I posed parallel questions (something to the collective effect of "how would non-USA parts on a USA version S30 be judged?") in a thread six months ago, and got a collective "Laugh-In" reply "Hmmm, verry interesting?" accompanied by tweaking if the chin... It is difficult to call on experience, and knowledge that is not made available. I had hoped that some of our esteemed and well-versed members from other Z-blessed parts of the world would make it to the convention and participate in sharing that information. Kats has placed a good bit of compare and contrast information on the 432 and the HLS30 on his website, and you have thrown several diamonds in as well. Only four of our overseas members have tossed any documentation(or copies thereof) into the Club DVD project I am working on, and with that there are three pieces I can't get a release to use in the project ( PDF copies of the Japanese/english S30 and SRl/SPL manuals, a copy of the current Australian version of FAST, and a copy of a Japanese competition parts book). It is not my intention to be rude, but in my view, it is easy to point out what was or was not done and far more helpful to actually contribute to getting the situation changed. Keeping the knowledge of that part of the Z family on that side of the pond is like my Father seldom talking about and never interacting with his family and then being upset when I don't recognize my uncle. If you are going to ask why don't we, and tell us we should, don't be surprised when we ask you to participate in correcting the situation-if it is worth your time to comment, it should be worth your time to help correct. I have a big project for the benefit of the club-and the hobby-four members outside of the USA have contributed. Will PS, Carl, your car has the best chance for some of the highend history shows( http://www.ameliaconcours.org/criteria/criteria.asp ) but to get our cars in with the others, they first have to be entered, and or parked at the shows... 7. ZX suspension components are not generally interchangeable with Z suspensions. The good news is the rear suspension arms are interchangeable between the left and right and coupe and the 2+2, so any Z '74-78 should do-the earlier ones will fit but are thinner material, so I would look for any 260 or a 280 to get the parts from . try www.car-parts.com for them if you have trouble, you can search by distance from your zipcode for convenience. Gold Medallions are given when earned to The top entries in the stock class in any model Z that is at least 10 years out from its date of manufacture-a 350Z has a wait to be included. A gold medallion owner has achieved the ultimate in Z restoration/upkeep. Making a Modified class winner is a noteworthy accomplishment, but with the number of NLA parts to to round up/restore, and the accumulation of details required to keep an original car original or properly restore a non-original car, it is more difficult than creating something new-that is not to discount the modified cars at all-I'm building one! It is to say an all original Z is more difficult to keep than a modified one-even before the cars are 35 or more years old. I agree that it is time to see 240Z in with its direct period competition-at shows-I can't imagine that the show Car Crazy hasn't covered a ZCCA event. I also agree that a set of three impartial and well versed judges can make a much better evaluation of a car than a popularity contest ever will. That isn't to say I wouldn't enjoy participation! I just checked out my ZXT rims, one wheel has some very shallow curb rash-nothing deeper than a couple of thousands, so they would clean up very well. The clear is discolored and coming off, but aside from the clear issues, and the one slight scrub to one rim, I see no issues. This is the worst rim-and the only one with a centercap. The rims have not been even wiped down. Tomorrow I'll give them a quick bath and take a better picture with all of them laid out. Will

it is strange that the ZCCA site is not updated in years with the winners, particulars and the like...but then the convention site hasn't been updated either. I would think both would be proud of the convention and the cars that were there! Will

I think in most cases the very nature of the participants desire for privacy in the transaction would preclude disclosing those very details. However if Zulater wanted to sell his Gold Medallion(Congratulations!!!) car I honestly think three things would happen: 1) Carl would be among the first people to know. 2) It would take a good bit more than 25K to change the ownership and... 3) The sale would be done quickly and more than likely under the radar-not necessarilybecause of a specific need for privacy, but more likely because publicity (advertising) was not necessary to complete the sale. The primary circumstance would the the existance of the opportunity to purchase a Z with a publicly documented history, or a Gold Medallion winner or close equavalent. Those cars don't come up often, and I am sure Carl knows of buyers waiting when they do. Will

Carl is privy and in many cases, instrumental. in many "off the radar" private sales. When some people want a car, they know Carl probably knows where it is, and what it would take for a change in ownership. After all he has setup and takes care of the largest Z registry and information base there is...The Internet Z Car Club, and ZHome. Will

Chris, Early in my mebership here I posted about the reason for the value of a low vin car, my point was that anything making up the car could be reproduced, so Vins should not be important. This thread has changed my mind, what is so valuable about Carls Baja and Zrush(other than the actual beauty of the cars) is the history they have been a part of. I bet Carl has every article his car has been mentioned in ,and damn near every photograph! ZRush has an extensive history in the Z circuit. Neither of these cars was built to sell after winning the two awards the owner of the '73 admits to being after. Building a car to sell is more lucrative when its design has input from the person paying for it. There are too many modified Zs that pride has priced into being for sale for years, but not effectively being for sale at all-my belief is this is another one of those. A nice car that will sit until the owner realizes that nobody pays for pride unless they direct the work. Will

A nice car to take pride in, but too owner specific in its completion. The sellers pride in the car is only valuable to him and perhaps his family, most people won't pay for it after the fact unless it is their vision that is built. Will

Many of the cars were also at The Autoway show in Clearwater, and in thinking about it, I don't think I uploaded all of the photos I took there, I'll check and rectify... Will
