1972 Datsun 240z: Car was my grandfathers, eventually gave it to my uncle. The car was stored in Colorado (where my family is from), so rust and salt damage is minimal.
  1. Hi I'm the owner of a 06/1972 240z with stock 4 speed b-style transmission and 3.36 differential. I recently went to change the gaskets on my speedometer gear, but unfortunately when reinserting it forced it in, causing the teeth to strip out. I am now in the process of looking for the (stock) 16 tooth yellow speedometer gear but am unable to find one online. With that thought in mind, my speedometer does read high (8 mph or so over at 70 mph) due to my slightly larger tire setup (195/70r14). I am now considering the black 17 tooth speedometer gear, but unfortunately cannot find just the drive gear online. My only options are a 17 tooth with the different style housing (what looks to be aluminum), which I have read has a different overall length. Would it be possible to swap the speedometer pinion gear from the later style speedometer gear assembly into my stock housing? Or will this later style fit? Looking for ideas/possible people with an abundance of 16 or 17 tooth speedometer gears!
  2. Hi I’m the owner of a standard 6/1972 Datsun 240z, which I recently changed the clutch on (with a new clutch kit) because of an oil leak from the rear main seal. All went well on the install and when I finished I began refill transmission with gear oil (Pennzoil Synchromesh). My owners manual calls for 1.5 liters of fluid in the “transmission case”. I ended up filling the transmission, but it never came overflowing out of the fill plug hole after using 2 bottles (which is roughly 2 liters). Should I continue filling until it flows out or hold off? I should also note I had the transmission upside down for couple of days and small amount of fluid did drain from what I believe is the breather (metal circular piece.)
  3. Did you purchase new interior or refinish the old interior? If you bought it where could I find the red? Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
