  1. Well, in Diseazd's defense, I've been using lots of gasoline as a cleaner to remove tons of undercoating under my hood. Hasn't hurt any painted surfaces including the fenders. Namerow, do you have a pic of your blasted and oiled cover?
  2. That's kinda why I was thinking a light thin rub with some kind of oil that I could just buff a little when needed. Hmm
  3. I understand, the baffle inside. Mine is glued (or something) along three if the edges (looks like someone long ago broke off a few of the screws). I shoved a cork in the vapor tube on top and packed paper towel in the open end of the baffle inside. Thought that would be safe enough. I'm thinking clear rather than silver paint tho. Have you tried clear and didn't like it?
  4. VHT paint? What is it? Looks beautiful.
  5. You thinking media well get stuck and come loose in engine later? Seems compressed air should clear it, no?
  6. Thanks namerow, I guess I'd like to stay kind of oem looking in that I wouldn't paint the stripes our anything. If it's a little shinier our duller but clean and cared for looking, that's ok. So the oil worked to keep tarnish down? Probably collects dust tho? Just give it a wipe once in a while?
  7. Stop me if this will be a mistake. My son is taking my tarnished crusty 44 year old valve cover with him to work tomorrow to plastic bead blast it. My only fear, can't look worse, is that it will it be so clean that it will tarnish quickly. Don't want to clear coat it, do I? How about an oil finish with a rag? Do it and don't worry about it? How have others cleaned/restored their Z valve covers? thanks again guys!
  8. Yea Steve, that looks good. I figured it must just him under there somewhere. Just kinda surprised there isn't a dedicated spot that was obvious.
  9. Yea, looks like battery height is as critical as length/width measurements if I want to use the stock bracket because how it bolts to the firewall eh?
  10. Had nothing but an ugly bent up tray. Getting tray, drain, top bracket and j hook. Looking at battery tray area I see where the bolt goes on the firewall but it is not obvious where the j hook would go down in front of the battery. I expected to see a hole or at least a bumped up edge or something to locate (hold) the j hook in place. All I see are some spot welds holding the mount in place. Initially covered in dust and undercoating I thought one of the spot welds was going to reveal a plugged hole. Does it simply hook under the lip of the tray? There are no witness marks where it would have been in the past. Tried google images with no luck. Thanks!
  11. "If it's on the internet, it's true" -Abe Lincoln You're right and I get it Steve. I expect better from Hemmings than a miscellaneous blogger tho.
  12. Found what I was thinking of.. "Datsun also used this generation Z to expand the sporty coupe's repertoire: A 2+2 body style was added, splicing in almost a foot of wheelbase and rear jump seats that only kids and yoga instructors could fit in, as well as a first-ever three-speed automatic transmission. " https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hsx/2007/03/Datsun-260Z/1424363.html I've owned one 240, two 260's and 2 280's, all manual Too many out there with autos, must have mis-interpeted the article or it was wrong.

  14. For some reason I didn't think a 240 ever had an auto trans. Swap?
