  1. Tell him to throw in the Hom's Chinese Restaurant sign and go for it.
  2. Also, I noticed I could reproduce it with the engine idling, and with my hand slowly operate the throttle until it started acting up.
  3. Does it seem more prominent at a certain RPM range? I had a strange misfire just under 2k at coast. Wide open or over 2kRPM it went away. I ended up adjusting the throttle vane switch per the FSM and it went away. Its an '80ZX.
  4. I don't know..I think I'd try and touch up that paint and leave it. Maybe lose the wire wheels.

  6. Back in march I made a thread called "TPS moisture". You corrected the terminology, but I didn't curse about it. Later in the thread, someone made a long post regarding internal TVS failures. You questioned it, and he got a bit upset it seemed.
  7. Is it possible to put the air intake from the '83 in the '79, and take the cold air intake out of the equation? I drive an 80zx n/a and have an '82 n/a parts car..all that stuff except for the ignition control module and AFM boot are interchangeable. My 80' has 207k miles on it, has 175+/- compression and runs like a Swiss clock. Mileage is not necessarily an indicator of being worn out.
  8. The automatic pull up dive brakes must have failed when the JU-87 pilot passed out.
  9. At some point I'll be rechroming the piece behind the doors across the roof(ZX). I'm not far from there at all. Nice to know there's good local shops.
  10. I set my 80 ZX N/A to 20degrees before tdc. Also, have you verified that your oil pump shaft is properly indexed? Edit: 12 degrees before TDC
  11. Might be time to build that rally car you've probably always wanted to build.
  12. Watch for power steering fluid leaks after the car has been driven and turned off. I made a similar mistake before I resorted to the engine hoist method. It started dripping about 5-8 drops of power steering fluid after shutoff.
  13. Used as a space protector/ workbench for rebuilding a Dana 35.

I have been considering Datsun Spirit's stage 3 L28e for when my engine flies apart. I have a good bit of time before that happens though. Check the website. There's a lot of options. You have to pull the engine and send it to them, but people on this site can legitimize their worth.
  15. Wow. There it all is. Thank you.
  16. The PO installed these chrome rims on my ZX sometime in the 90's. They don't look half bad cleaned up, but I'm wanting something more period correct that isn't the stock rim. I'm considering Enkei92's. I'd like to hear any one else's opinion. Perhaps there's something out there I haven't seen.
  17. Its a shame these things pop up when they do. I still have body work to complete on the ZX before adding another to the fleet. I could see paying that if it is what it seems to be. Hopefully the Z gods let the right person ends up with it.
  18. The head does look clean, but why not bother to clean up the valve cover? I spent about as much time shining up the cover as I did rebuilding the head.

I went to check the temperature of a pork shoulder I was cooking in my ancient Weber grill, and realized the meat thermometer was still in the Z from checking actual engine temp. Vs gauge reading.
  21. My front brake caliper ate this one today.
  22. If distance from Michigan to wherever isn't an issue, and you want an engine that isn't stock, perhaps a car close to Virginia Beach could be found, and brought to Datsun Spirit, where a well built performance L28 could be built, before shipping to Jolly 'ol.
  23. Same thing happens to my ZX, gauge reads a touch high, but meat thermometer produces numbers within spec. When I first got it, it ran way hot. I decided to put the fan assembly from my parts car on and the temp went down in all conditions. One thing I noticed after switching fans was an audible fan noise once temp was reached that wasn't there with the original one. Do the early cars make that same noise when the fan is engaged?

I'm not entirely sure about what the external silver capacitor looking device on my ZX alternator is. I believe it has something to do with noise reduction. I don't see it attached to yours. Perhaps it is deleted for this application. I can post a picture of it when I get back to the car if you'd like.
  25. https://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/cto/6181096570.html Saw this one on Craigslist the other day. Not sure what's going on with that lower valence but might be worth checking out.
