  4. I just contacted the seller with an offer. If they bite I'll have it shipped to CO and we can divide the cost then. Anyone with a FI Z can then go to any hotel and have a tune up.

  9. I read the debut will the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in November. Enjoy the F1 season until then!!!
  10. I owned a 91 Miata (fyi Mr K. and Mr. Matsuo also bought these when they first came out in 1990 so we are in good company). I like the 99/2000 Miata's the best because they look ok, and handle better than the early (which says a lot) but they also have more cabin room than the early ones. I also have an S2000 and it is much nicer than a Miata for creature comforts plus it has the extra room. The engine is one of the best in the world with one of the highest HP/litre ratios. It was developed by the Honda F1 engineers (not the current crop...poor Alonso). The power of the S2000 is what makes in nicer than the Miata... however I think the 99/2000 Miata handles better... maybe due to less weight. The S2000 has a great 6 speed transmission and LSD too. It is built to be driven hard and Honda reliability. They all come with leather interiors and 6sp manual transmissions. You can now get a nice S2000 for ~ $10,000. I think you would like the electric roof and quieter top-down driving. (oil change and valve adjustments are EZ) btw this is "Blue" I changed my handle recently.
  11. I work with modern fibre optic submarine cables and enjoy researching the early telegraph cables (as much as I enjoy Z's... so those who know me understand the extent ). I was recently perusing historical Nissan publications and came across this 1962 document: The footer contains an interesting reference: Cable Address "NISMO" Tokyo. NISMO was the shortened address (International Identifier for the Telegraph Office) used by NISsan MOtor corporation to receive telegraphs. The short form allowed for the sender to use fewer characters in the telegraph/teletype message to reduce costs. If you research the telegraph messaging techniques, compressing words and acronyms were from well formed and standardized methods used long before the similar ad hoc usage in texting. "Cable" comes from Submarine Telegraph Cable which was used to describe the messaging system used for ~100 years prior to 1962 for international telecommunications. In 1962 International telephone calls were quite rare. The first telephone cable across the Pacific was COMPAC in 1963 that could only carry 80 calls simultaneously. So NISMO was first used in Telecoms before Motorsports. Now you know the complete story
  12. You may consider selling the Z and Miata to get an S2000. A nice compromise.

Hi Mike, FYI: I just registered but hotel booking failed. They said $139 rate is no longer available and quoted rates of ~ $260/night.... crazy. Do you think the Zclub can arrange for more rooms at the favourable rate or book a nearby hotel otherwise it will be AirB&B off site for us. Thanks!
  17. I have a 72 shell that I can ship over as well as a 77
  18. We used to have our annual Z club meeting on the Harbour Front but now we just go to the Atlantic Nationals. ~ 1000 to 2000 cars usually 2nd or 3rd week of July. Hank visited the Z Barn a few years ago (near Wolfville) and he passed me at midnight in NB coming back from ZCon last August. Janet and I were in the "shoe". Come on out.

  20. Grinder is your friend. 1. Pull out the rod as far as it will go then cut it off with the grinder. 2. Make a stop to reduce grinding into the tube top: - Build up around the end of the tube (under the nut) with wood or metal (small piece of plywood with a 2" hole then sliced in half to fit the end) or some metal strap wound around the end and a 2-1/2" water hose worm gear clamp to hold it. 3. Start grinding away from the top to cut away the top of the nut. Once the top is free the strut can come out then you can heat and cool the remaining threads until free. REMEMBER THAT HEAT AND STRUT INSERTS ARE DANGEROUS.. BE CAREFUL. FYI My dad had me cut used oil well casing pipe when I was a teenager so I like the grinder as a last resort when parts don't budge. With the casings, if there was mud inside it often trapped gas so the pipes would blow out some times.... good fun!

  22. This 2" ID Square Tubing may do the trick: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=10355&step=4&showunits=inches&id=845&top_cat=849 For a long version, cut a 1' to 2' piece and weld a cross to the top to make a "T" to reduce non-rotating forces. For a short version just cut 3" and weld a T handle to the side.
