  1. Mostly stock??!!
  2. If you are referring to the caps in Rusty1's avitar, those are still available at http://www.nismoparts.com. 40343-N3200. I have them on my 78 280Z. They charge $19.55USD ea. plus shipping and they are new.
  3. Doesn't a 7/70 date stamp make it a 71? Heavy use of the MSA order form. The rear splash pan appears to be painted black or is that just the lighting during the photo session? Still, a very nice looking car, speakers in the door and dash cut for the modern type stereo notwithstanding, bumper bar on the rear but not on the front, always liked those headlight covers.

    Definately, different car different purpose.
  5. Is that the famous "Tornado?" Is the SpiralMax just another version of that? Those things rely heavily on the P.T. Barnum theory.

"Refined" in this case unfortunately means 'softened.' I have owned both a 70 and my present 78. Stock vs stock, the 70 had a much better road feel although the 78 is smoother (softer).
  7. I don't think it's a question of will it work but more one of will it hold up.
  8. Well, barring rain, Daisey and I will be there. I'll probably bring 'Brown' (the 810) since the 320 isn't that comfortable on a long ride and the Zs ac isn't presently hooked up. (changing the heater control panel) That's SoCal for you, worried about heat and rain in the same post!
  9. Me

  11. I would think that it is possible to gain 4.2 or more hp without using a superchager. Are we talking L20 4 cyl or 6cyl? In either case, I believe you can top that without a supercharger.
  12. Regardless of who doesn't like them, they do work. Evidentally, pretty well if you know what you are doing. This opinion comes from one of my friends who IS an ASE certified mechanic and has an auto repair shop that specializes in Datsun/Nissan/Infiniti and has been in business for over 30 years. He can make flats perform as well as rounds. I have discussed this with him many times. That is why I don't share the common opinion on round vs flat. According to Elvan, with the technology that is available to properly rebuild a carbureator today vs 30 years ago, the is no appreciable difference between a round top and a flat top, performance wise. I know that's hard to accept considering the general consensus, but I've seen, rode in, and driven examples that would seem to verify that statement.
  13. I know a couple of guys with flat top carbed cars. One a 240 and the other a 260. They both run fine and I think they both kept the stock carbs for originality. I was glad to see Zedrally's post because both of these guys work on their own cars, do their own carb work, etc. They both learned these carbs because nobody really knows anything about them. All everybody seems to know is what they've heard. My opinion is that the flat top/boat anchor thing is just like anything else. If you say it often enough it becomes the truth or at least the accepted truth. Flat tops are no better or worse than anything else on these cars. 'Patience and skill' is what MOM said. After working with Nissan/Bosch type f.i. for years, I've learned to troubleshoot it myself because it seems to be such a mystery to so many so called skilled mechanics. I could have also thrown away the f.i. and put 'Z Therapy' s.u.'s on my car when I had problems with it but what would that really have accomplished. Any thing is 'JUNK' if it doesn't work. (Another lone discenting voice)

IIRC, I don't think the mounting holes line up. I believe that the bolt circle atop the strut is larger on the 280.
  15. Georgians or Australians?

The cars that had dealer authorized non-factory ac didn't have the ficd system. They just set the idle a little higher to compensate for the ac load. (900-1000 rpm). There are quite a few components in the factory ficd system. I really don't know what you mean by 'the one that is actuated by the EGR valve. The ficd has it's own vaccum device on the intake manifold. It feeds vaccum to the cannister that houses the ficd actuator. Take a look at these scans that show the components of the ficd system. I guess you could transfer it over to your 260 but it looks like a lot of work. My 280 doesn't have it (ARA ac system) and my 810 does (factory air). The lack of it on my 280 has never been a problem.
  17. Yeah, what he said!
  18. Way back on the first page, post #5, I put up a link to the last time we talked about this so that we wouldn't go through this again. I guess it didn't work. Hey, if he wants to build his own brace, let him. Let's move on.

There was a guy about thirty years ago in Pomona California who had over 40 Chevrolet Corvairs. He untimately moved them up to a lot in Montclair California when the collection grew even more. I've been out of that area for some time now and have often wondered what became of that man and his cars.
  20. I think that was 2002. I remember him asking why there was no 'HoneyBee' class.

Interesting article. A couple of things stand out. 'Designed specifically for the American market.' I guess that can be debated until dooms day. I don't really care, I'm just happy that it was designed, period. 'Designed in part by Albrect Goertz...,' everthing I've ever read and heard with any credibility seems to indicate that he had very little if anything to do with the design. 'With the eventual demise of the 260Z, the larger-engined 280Z and 280ZX were released but buyers were by then starting to tire of the car and its "ladies hairdresser" image.' although you never got the 280Z in Australia. And as for the 'Datsun Sports Roadster' being the 'fore-runner' of the Z, well that's kind of a stretch IMO. It did precede the Z but the Z does kind of stand alone.
  22. We all remember what happened to gas prices here right after 9-11.

  24. Driving a Z regardless of that. . . .priceless! (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist)
  25. No. I have tested them by just plugging it in without actually mounting it. The two red wires are just for the warning buzzer. Jumping the starter shouldn't cause the solenoid to act up. From what you say about it just clicking when you turn the key I think the solenoid was already bad. There may be a ground issue because turning the key should have the same effect as jumping the solenoid.
