  1. I tried to edit this into the last post but it had timed out. Norm says that he hasn't run the car in question for about three years.
  2. He's still quite active at Zcar.com. The actual name he uses is "norm(The 12 sec Dual SU Dude)" without the quotation marks.

From a post about a year ago. Your's are screw in rather than press in but it's the same logo. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=189778&postcount=10
  4. Sometimes catching up on old thread can be a lot more interesting than the regular daily stuff here.

There are many who have only had a chance to get a clear view of the rear one!:devious:

75-78 I can do. I've posted them a couple of times over the years on this site. It's the earlier ones that are hard to find.

I get mine from an local shop that deals with high performance Volkswagens. He's has a bunch of loose Weber parts and as I recall, they're only like 30 cents ea. if your're talking about the same fiber gaskets I have on the the 40DCOE that's on my 320 PU. I would even think you could match them up with something at the local hardware store or even cut your own if you don't have a shop like that nearby.

However, that's an HVAC vacuum diagram and his car probably doesn't even have AC. We seem to get that (or something like it) whenever someone just wants an underhood simple vacuum diagram. That said, we'd still need to know what year.
  9. We can always count on you for pertinent commentary:stupid:

I bought the Z buckle at a thrift store years ago. Beyond that, I've no clue of it's origin. On the back it says 'Solid Brass c. 1978 Baron Buckle Taiwan 4499'. The 810 buckle was in a box of parts in the trunk of a 510 I purchased at least 20 years ago.

Proceed with what? We dropped this nearly a year ago. I don't care what you put on your car. It's really not my concern. But every time this opens up people throw out opinions only to find that they can handle the ones that differ from theirs. If you like 240Z bumpers on your 280Z then I love em! They're not on my car. But don't ask my opinion, you're liable to get it, and it doesn't matter.

I don't know if it's 'serioulsly nice' but it goes well with my 810 belt buckle.
  13. I think yours is a 1979 280ZX/810 5speed. With three sensors it's also a California trans. How many exhaust mounting ears does it have? They'd be right below the shifter housing. If it only has one going to the left, it's 80-83, 84 if you count the Maxima. If it has two, it's 79 and down. From you picture 1 is the OD detecting switch, 2 is the top gear detecting switch and 3 is the reverse light switch. The switches other than the reverse switch are part of the emission control system. Non Cal cars had a slightly different system and didn't use the other two (1 & 2). The one Rockr69 pictured is a later trans from a car w/ECCS and hence the fourth sensor which I believe only allowed the car to start in neutral. Not really sure on that one as I've never dealt with the transmissions that have four sensors. One sure way to determine the reverse switch is to connect a volt/ohm meter to the terminals on the switch and put the trans in reverse. If you get continuity, that's the one.

They are reproductions. He could probably have as many as you want made. And they're small. They fit on top of a shift knob. I remember seeing grill sized ones back in the day but never any that small.

That's why I didn't post the picture. I'm gonna just leave that one alone.:devious:

Well, they did have that ugly little 4 cylinder concept car in 1999.

As Jamie of the mythbusters would say, "well, that's your problem right there". Wasn't the program launched in 1997? EDIT: Montezuma, you kind of beat me to it.

Nor would it have ZX wheels. I doubt that someone would buy an FRP car and then put those on it but you never know.

Not really a collector. I just have what I have. I stripped the 810 down myself and had it painted by a nearby shop in Ontario, Ca. about 4 years ago when I lived in Fontana. It's the same shop that painted my Z about 10 years ago. It was at his suggestion that I strip it myself to save on cost. Saved me about 600 bucks labor.

But if you do that swap you'll want to go to the NGK B6ES-11 and gap them at .039-.043.

Me? There are actually three Datsuns I have to choose from. The 810 is my daily driver. It's basically a 2 dr hardtop with 280zx running gear. Except for the engine which is a L24E instead of a L28E. The Z is for fun. Don't forget the truck. I guess it's for show since it's not confortable enough to drive daily or for fun.

.031-.035 seems to be the acceptd range for an L24 w/points. Since you already have those Iridium plugs, run em but next time I'd recommend the standard NGK BP 6ES. You'll get differing opinions but the majority would agree.

I'm aware of the differences in plate size between the US and Japan. I said his bumper was also OEM. I was just curious as to why a car destined for the US would have a bumper on it that wasn't designed for US type plates unless some PO had changed it at some point. My 320 pickup has both sets of holes for the plate as well as areas where the RHD stuff, steering column, pedals, etc., would be mounted. I understand that as they were most likely trying to keep costs to a minumun in those days. As far as the 'Photo-Revenue Enhancement' system, they also get some fairly recognizable pictures of the driver since it's human nature to look an the flash from the camera.

I hope that doesn't result in too much voltage going to the points which will result in premature wear. Haven't dealt with points for a while, my cars have EI, but as long as you're not bypassing the ballast resistor it should be okay.

Welcome Jill. I don't know where Flower Mound is but I do have a sister that lives in Houston. I'm not much into the myspace/chat/texting type thing but to each his (or her) own. Don't worry, you'll love the color because Z's look good in any color!
