Clutch slave cylinder question???
The Centerforce II has to be for a 280z (has to match the tranny)...not sure about the 71 clutch arm...I think this needs to be 280 as well... or if you have a 240 centerforce, then the 280z t/o needs to be changed to a 240 and the slave should be changed too. In other words, from the slave all parts should be 240 or 280. Anyone else want to chime in? When I did mine, with a 77 5 speed (on a 72 240) I used a 77 slave, 100% all clutch parts were 77. With the stock 72 master cylinder, I did have to adjust the rod almost all the way out (that is between the pedal and the firewall...when it wasn't adjusted, it had the same symptoms you describe.

HYPERFLEX Major Polyurethane Bushing Kit - Datsun 240Z
bemmerguy, do you ever search the forums? Almost all your questions have been answered in like 10 or more other posts many many times. Not flaming, I just think you could save some time by searching first...

Period correct mods
PK, please fill out your profile a little bit more..since you don't have your location filled out, you could be in Antarctica, and if so, I'd say you need to move first.

Questionable L26
how can a motor run great but be way down on power?

new guy
welcome. The best advice I can give you is to use the search function to try to find answers first; there is very little that hasn't been asked already on the S30 Zed. Check out www.ztherapy.com about carbs (early 240z round tops)...they are have an excellent carb video that explains how to take em apart and also synch them. They are really easy to synch however.

What do I do?
Look here: (and try using the forum search function in the future if you didn't know about it) http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17235 Floor board replacement doesn't replace rails however. Frame rails can be bought (engine area and underneath in front area of cab).

oem color for the air filter cover
I think the 73 240z had the blue air cleaner cover..I think the 70-72 had the orange. Could be wrong though...
-
oem color for the air filter cover
here's a picture of the air cleaner and my 240's fender, which is red 110...it's an original color..it's not an exact match, but is real real close.
-
oem color for the air filter cover
not exact, but you can use chevy orange (sbc color) or use my datsun's color, Red 110...most custom paint places will mix it for you...look in my gallery, there are some engine pictures showing the fender and my air cleaner, real close, red 110. Actually I didn't see a good picture in my gallery...I'll go take a pic after work tonight and post it for you.

Your First car.
I had a 74 260z when I was 16 yrs old. Got me hooked on Zeds...my parents didn't want me getting a 'hot rod' and thought this would be a good trade-off. heh.

What kind of engine build
unless you're doing it yourself, you're not going to get a stoker done for the amount of money you want to spend ($5k).

What does a bad wheel bearing sound like?
I'd say the belts are seperating, and they're seperating slightly on the wheel you put on...it causes a 'bump' in the roundness on the tires...I thought the same thing on my Dodge Van (but with a solid axle)...turns out my 5,000 mile tires had come apart--got a new replacement no charge--at Les Schwab--a good tire place in the Pacific NW. Make sure when you take the wheels in that you specifically tell them you think the belt is seperating--the balance machine doesn't really notice it--its more of a roll it on the ground type test--you can do it yourself.

Is MSA too buisy to take my money
so victor, was a customer service person helping you, and then they said 'can I put you on hold?' or did you call and be put into the waiting system that most companies have? If you were waiting your turn, there's nothing they could've done. I always try to call around 9-10 am pst or 2-3pm pst when it is slower...but if someone was helping you, and they put you on hold and never got back, that's pretty bad. Mistakes do happen; I am sure if you called back and explained the situation, MSA is pretty cool, I'd say they'd give you 20% off or free shipping or something. They can't afford to lose any old Z customers. I've never had a girl answer the phone at MSA; in fact, most of the guys know quite a bit about Zs and help with part numbers and such. I have had a couple of parts not shipped/or got something I didn't order. Always overnight on the missed part and they've let me keep the part they accidentally gave me (a new 72 dash)....just kiddin...

MSA a/c kit.. anyone have experience with it?
I'd get the courtesy Nissan A/C kit. This is the one that was installed on Factory cars that had AC when they were referbished, I thought.

4" Exhaust Tip Too Big?
you would have a bolt on, so the muffler is removable without 'unwelding' the tip. bolt on muffler so you can replace it when it wears out. That's why you would bolt it on. It's just preference, possibly convenience if you ever had your muffler replaced. It's pretty normal to not weld the muffler/tip in place, at least OEM and places like Midas.

Substitute for M.C. caps?
well, i had to use saran wrap with a rubber band for a while...if it's an emergency. Kind of Dukes of Hazard-ish but it works.

Rebuilding SU's
it was 'fixed'...they are plated with chrome (after being plated with Brass) while the British Sus are plated with Brass. But after 30 years of movement, they are bound to wear out. nothing in that position would last forever. The coating just wears away... check out http://www.ztherapy.com/ they explain it very well.

Save S30-0002
uhh, looks like the floor boards need replacing.... Geeze, a 'rumor' that the 00002 is in the junkyard? "Hey Tex, you hear about the 00005 at u-pull-it o'er in Fresno?" "ahh, dats dust a rumor!"

No Defogger!!
would be nice to be told you have a 280 in the future.... under your dash, above your gas pedal (us cars) is the whatmacallit that the cable from the level you have 'def' set to...it takes a bit of pressure to open up that vent (or close) so the cable can get screwed up...I've had to reach up and just manually change it with my hand...no biggie...going to change the cables eventually.

'Picked up my 280Z Today :D
You can position your own headlights...just use a screw driver, there are adjusting screws around the headlight, loosen/tighten to get it just right.

how do u Polishing ur engine?
bemmer they have catalogs at MSA get one, cause its a good catalog to look through for parts. That chrome cover is in there, and if you buy stuff from them, they send you seasonal catalogs (small ones in the mail) and that chrome cover is almost always in there. Just remember that chrome causes more heat in the engine compartment, something 240z's don't necesarily like.

240Z with a Sunroof
I have seen quite a few factory retract sunroofs put into various cars, and they look original...quite common for auto body guys. Just saw my buddie's 510 the other day, has a 88 prelude sunroof in it...looks factory ...has the inner liner and everything...all electric. If the roof was flat, it'd be one thing, but I have to agree with Beandip, sunroofs in an S30 look real bad. Glad I don't have one in my 240. Wouldn't have bought it if it had had one.

Installing an amp, easy or hard?
Have you tried just doing 2 speakers (the rears)? I just use rears facing forward from the taillight panel area, and they are plenty loud. I plan to put some tweeters up high in front eventually.
