What I did on the weekend
mmmmmmmmmm.....feeeeeet... Hee hee! Hey I never put the thing there! Yet another "quirk" of owning my zed. Mind you, I really don't see that thing getting much use unless I aquire another minister for war and finance that has a foot fetish of her own.

Lead footed B's.
I aplaud you for having such a mature/sensible stance on the issue for your age. It's pretty rare. However I do have to disagree on your point that there is no safe speeding. This is only correct in the same way that (as I said yesterday) there is no safe driving of a car. The simple fact is that there is risk as soon as your car starts moving, regardless of where you are, who's around and how fast you're going. However, what we have to look at is acceptable/reasonable risk. In your example, yes, the risk from traveling faster than 50kph would have been unacceptable. The thing is there are instances where the posted speed limit can be exceeded without creating excessive risk. For example, the highway. We have some excellent highways in this country, yet they are all posted at a max of 100, and in some places 110. Many of these would be perfectly safe at say 120-130 (I'm talking about highway sections further out away from towns where the traffic is lighter). Look at most other countries in the world, they have much higher highway limits. Eg in the US they now have 70mph (or was it 75) in many states*. In the european countries limits around the 140kph mark aren't uncommon. *Reserch has shown the highway death toll in the states that have increased their speed limits, has dropped. Another example: Where I live we are all on 5 acre blocks, it's a good 2 lane road with only light traffic and a posted speed limit of 60km/h. Now head out to Jensen, another suburb on the ouskirts of the other side of town. The roads, block size, traffic etc there is pretty much exactly the same as it is here, yet it has an 80km/h limit. Why? I don't know. 80 would be fine on either road in the day time, although 60 is about right at night due to the wildlife (or 50km/h with zed headlights ). But that's a case of people needing to know how to drive to the conditions.

Good idea.... Will do.

Anything interesting
Rick's from up north here.....we're quite used to 40+deg days with 100% humidity. He's gonna need to bring his termal underwear with him if it's under 30deg.

*Datto-zed watches the pigs fly past the window* I agree 100% with Rick. :classic:

What I did on the weekend
The past two days I've been sorting out a bunch of electrical gremlins, namely due to most of the wiring in this car having been seriously molested by the previous owner/dong head. So....things that now work, that didn't before: •Stop lights •Map light (rebuilt with a good micro switch, still works as per normal though) •Glove box light (needs a new bulb though) •Stereo •Stereo now has an antenna •The Romantic Toe Light™ (see pic) •Horn button in center of steering wheel is hooked up (I have no switch on the end of the indicator stalk as the "bell ends" at the panel shop broke it) Also I've •Replaced all fuses •Clean up a sh*te load of dodgy wiring....still plenty to go however •Fixed the parkers/dash light switch. Well almost, just waiting for the epoxy "tit" to cure, then will assemble it all tomorrow. See HERE for details. Here's a pic of the Romantic Toe Light™. Does anyone else have this in their zed? ....and no it isn't actually that bright! That's an 8sec exposure.

Ahh....important thing I think I neglected to mention.....the romantic toe light has it's own switch (part of the same houseing). As is I have it wired in with the map light so it can be turned on and off at any time. Turning it on is awkward as you have to reach up behind the back edge of the glove box. Turning it off is a bigger drama as if your not careful it's very easy put your fingers on the bull instead of the switch. Hmm....instruments being lit has been a big problem lately. I've just pulled the switch appart and fixed it, just waiting for the new "tit"* to cure. Tomorrow morning I'll put it all back together and all should be fine and dandy. *See my thread HERE so you know what I'm on about, and my method of fixing it. Oh...and lots of pics. My clock doesn't work either. Nor the ammeter. Good to know that it can likely be fixed.....might do that when I finish uni and have $120 to spare. For now my watch will do just fine.

What I did on the weekend
Wow! That's going to be quite a monster. :classic: Ditto wanting to know who built it and if your willing, what sort of money this will cost. I have a mate that's quite seriously looking to build/have built such an RB30DET.

Fixing headlights comination switch?
That should hopefully be well hardened by tomorrow morning. The resin can then be filed back anywhere that it may be slightly out of shape, but I'd guess it will be pretty much perfect. I'll let everyone know how it goes once it's back together.

Now what I have done is cleaned up the end of the "tit", then made up a small amount of the epoxy resin I use for fibreglassing my model boats. I shoved the "tit" on the end of a skewer, then dipped the end of the "tit" into the epoxy resin. This leaves a nicely rounded drop on the end of the "tit" with almost exactly the same profile as it had when new, as can can be seen in this pic.

Here you can see just how worn down the plastic "tit" is, which is exactly what my problem is. It just isn't long enough to push the contact anymore.

Now here's the rocker contacts. The parkers ones were quite scorched. The rocker on the head lights side wasn't as scorched, but it was considerably pitted.

Fixing headlights comination switch?
Oh righty. I had a play with it this avo and all of a sudden the lights worked, so I decided to leave it. Well after doing a bunch of other things to it tonight I went to take it for a drive....not working!!! So I pulled the whole comination switch out and pulled it appart.

Alternative window winders
Tanny: Can't say I've ever seen window winders at the stores here, but I'll have a look around.

Fixing headlights comination switch?
I believe my the part of the combination switch that gives power to the dash lighting, parkers, tail lights etc is buggered! It was flashing on and off over bumps for some time, but after doing lots of rewiring today (other problems), they don't work at all. I'm pretty certain I didn't stuff something up while working on it today, will check that in the morning. Anyhow, my service manual says the combination switch isn't servicable at all. Just wondering if it is actually possible to pull the thing appart and fix it? Or am I just going to have to replace it? If replacement is the only option I think I'll just have to wire it into a seperate switch for now.

Looks it in the pic doesn't it? In reality it isn't very bright at all. Wouldn't be more than a 5 watter.

Rick: You're a legend! I did need your listing in the end to work them all out. HKSZ: Nope, not from either of those. Car is a manual. Well, my busy day of rewiring all this mess has mostly paid off. Things that now work, that didn't before: •Tail lights •Map light (rebuilt with a good micro switch, still works as per normal though) •Glove box light (needs a new bulb though) •Stereo •Stereo now has an antenna •Romantic toe light Also, replaced every single fuse and cleaned out a sh*t load of dodgy dodgy wiring. Unfortunatly now I've lost my tail lights and dash lights, but that's been an ongoing problem (dodgy switch I'm pretty sure). I'll be posting a thread about that if I can't get it figured out tomorrow. Here's a pic of the romantic toe light in action.....just for Rick. :devious: Oh....and no it isn't actually that bright! That's an 8sec exposure. ;-)

Excellent! Nah the pic is good enough for me to see what I need to see. Thanks again for that. Re: The romantic toe lamp.....do other aussie zeds have them? I sure as hell can't see romantic toe lamp on the wiring diagram in the hanes manual (non aus spec).

Alternative window winders
The ones that were on the car when I bought it are plastic items off something else. One of them broke recently, so I'm having to swap the winder from door to door every single time I get into or get out of the zed. It's way too hot up here to drive windows up at this time of the year, even at night. Mr Camouflage: PM sent.
