  1. Oh yeah... i was thinking of sticking with the carbs for now seeing as mine as freshly rebuilt. Any thoughts on that? Would the old Bosch L-jet be worth the hastle of installing?
  2. I've lined up myself a 280ZX L28 along with all the loom and ECU for AU$150. Only catch being the thing hasn't been run in about two years, so I was thinking of pulling it down and giving it a basic freshen up. I've been recommended I replace the big end bearings and gaskets. Anything else that should get done while I am at it, keeping in mind that I'm on a tight budget at the moment?

Roughly how much does an L series box weigh? I'll have a look into freight next time I'm at work.

Let me know when you're ready to part with it.

While we're on the topic of gearboxes I have a question. I'm really going to need a new box soon, however I have buckleys chance of finding a z box locally. Just wondering what more common L series boxes would be a reasonable alternative?
  6. They will all have a particular torque to which they must be tightened. Torque to yield is where you increase the tension past the yield point of the bolt. That's that stress at which the bolt will go into plastic deformation (as a pose to elastic), i.e. it will not go back to it's original shape. Hopefully have it back together this avo, with no nuts and bolts left over.....and all my tools still accounted for.
  7. CoastGuardZ: Mitsubishi Sigma. Maybe was a Crysler Sigma over in the US, as they are actually a crysler (AFAIK). Wouldn't I only need new head bolts if they were torque to yield head bolts? Thanks guys.
  8. I've just pulled the head off my sisters 2L sigma to change the head gasket. Now what I am wondering is, what is the best way to clean up the surfaces in preparation for the new head gasket? Also, what's the best way stop any of the old head gasket gunk getting down into the bores while cleaning it? Thanks, Justin

Nah, parts for my zed. Selling most of the part of it will be easy as. He'll make back just about everything he spent on it no worries.

A mate has just picked up a crashed Z32 from auction. Just wondering what parts would be good to grab off it for my 260Z 2-seater. Unfortunatly the motor is rooted and he's taking the gear box. Other than that it's pretty much all up for grabs. About the only bits I can think of would be brakes. Anything else?

Well comparing this to the diagrams I have of the US spec 260Z there are a few changes spec wise, but the main thing is that all the wiring colours are correct. Or I assume so anyway, I haven't checked yet. I know the colours of the US spec are quite different to the aus spec.

If anyone needs a copy, I have it hosted HERE. Edit: The important bit I totally forgot to mention was this is for the aussie spec car.

Is that aussie delivered models only? Seems it might, but the site is over it's bandwidth limit so I can't check any of the pages that aren't in my browsers cache from earlier.

I'm just wondering which of the many varied Datsun models were actually sold in australia? Anyone know of a website listing aussie Datsun models? (I'm thinking along the lines of the earlier Datsuns, say pre '65)
  18. I've just finally heard back from my mate in the Solomons. He wants to know how many ppl are interested in these mirrors. I think we'd be looking at under a $100 for a pair anyway. Maybe less. I've just asked if they're genuine and the condition, should have a reply soon.

Don't know that it will be quite your cup of tea, but I'm considering selling my zed. This is more suitable really if you have some more money to put into it, eventually anyway. I've been driving it daily for about 2-3 months since it's been back on the road and it's been great. Drives well and has been quite reliable. But it still aint perfect. Read this thread for my honest opinion of the car. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10239 http://homes.jcu.edu.au/~jc118789/zfront.jpg http://homes.jcu.edu.au/~jc118789/zrear.jpg http://homes.jcu.edu.au/~jc118789/enginebay.jpg
  20. All requests complete, including the mood lighting. One Romantic Toe Lightâ„¢ is more than enough for me. ;-)
  21. Glad to be of help! A few notes: •Remember how the windscreen washer wire and it's little plastic insulating washer go on. It took me a minute to figure it out as I did take a pic before I took the metal casing off •Any thickish epoxy should do the trick. Araldite should be fine and would be preferabe as it cures faster. The stuff I used had a 20min working time. Probably about and hour until it started to really thicken up.
  22. I've just reassembled it all and reinstalled it in the car and it all works perfectly. The switch has a really nice action now, with a positive click as it moves from postion to position. However (there's ALWAYS something!) when I'd installed it back in the car, I realised that for the wipers, there's actually a intermittent position! I'd always assumed there wasn't as the intermittent position hasnever worked. Now I'm kicking myself because I could have fixed it while it was out! *grrrr*
  23. Legend! PM sent.
  24. It's been about 6 hours now and the epoxy has set. Check out the shape! Pretty damn close, although maybe a tad too tall. If it's a problem then I'll just sand it back. I tried to pull the epoxy away from the plasic, but it has bonded strongly which is great. Now I just hope that it wears well.

I didn't add it myself. It was one of the previous owners. Why i don't know. It has a little switch on the body of the thing to turn it on and off which is sort of cumbersome as you have to reach up behind the glove box. Turning it off it's rather easy to burn yourself on the bulb, which made me think that it certainly aint factory. Anyhow, it was working back when I bought the car, however it seems to have been unhooked when it was at the body shop....buggers me why. Then again nothing supprises me with their level of incompetence. There's other wierd things in my car. Eg the hi/low beam switch has now been replaced with one just above the foot rest. You actuate it with your left big toe. Apparently a lot of the old holdens had a setup like that. Under the center console there are two looms that come out into 5 plugs. Not a single one of them is plugged into anything! There's one wire taped off one of them for the acc 12V for the stereo, but that's it! I've worked out the plugs are for the rear demister, radio, hazard lights, something to do with the aerial and choke warning switch. I think. A few questions: - Where is the aerial supposed to be on a aussie 260 2 seater? I don't have one, other than an after market one that is a little black box that sits at the top center of the windscreen. - Can some either show me a detailed pic, or describe for me the warning lights and switch layout on the center console. Check the attached pic for what I have there. The demister switch and wiring is all there, just not plugged in. None of the other switches are connected to anything. What am i missing?
