GL-4/ GL-5 for 240z tranny?
Yes you can use it. I like the synthetics a little better. As long as any of them meet API GL-4 your good to go. FWIW, Carl B.

Engines
The L24 and L26 are the same basic engine - however the L26 has a longer stroke. Minus all original emissions considerations - if you equipped either of them with the same head - the larger engine should produce more torque/HP than the smaller one. I'd be looking for a shop close to home - to have an engine rebuilt. I'm sure there are plenty in New York - just talk to folks in the local clubs. If you have a 240Z with it's original engine - I'd have that one rebuilt and keep it with the car. I would expect to pay around $3000.00 to have either L24/L26 properly rebuilt - if I took the engine to the rebuilder and picked it up when done. With good machine work, new parts needed, seal kits etc - you would have around $1800.00 in parts and labor - not counting the disassembly and re-assembly and time spent locating all the needed parts. Turn around for that work, at a good shop should be 3 to 4 weeks. {takes time to get all the parts assembled, the head/block scheduled in the machine shop etc}. You really don't want to deal with a vendor that is out of state - unless they are one of the big names with outstanding reputations. Hard to sue someone in another state, or even recover any funds...just not worth it.

Are All Datsuns Going Up In Value?
Of course some people just want something small and inexpensive - to put that $4.00 or $5.00 per gallon of gas in. Even 40 years old the Datsun's are reliable and simple to maintain.. plus they got great fuel mileage.. So it makes sense that the 510's, 1200's and B210's would be worth a bit more today. The prices on 240Z's were depressed over the past four years - and are simply catching up with the market again... FWIW, Carl B.

New to the Z
If I were going to do a V8 conversion - I'd look for the cleanest and least expensive 280Z body or rolling chassis I could find. They are stronger, had better corrosion protection than the earlier 240Z's - - and for good bodies they are usually far less expensive. They come with fuel tanks ready for FI as well. Of course the guys at HybridZ.org can offer a wealth of information when it comes to V8 swaps.. The other thing you really should start with is a large amount of money.. good luck Carl B.

That's a beautiful pair for sure. I sold my 72 510 Wagon last year.... sure miss having it. If I had been closer to Mr. Brock - I'd have grabbed that 510 in a heart beat...

Body Rubbers on eBay
No way of telling who the mfg. is - nor when that "kit" was made. It's a total crap shoot - I wouldn't touch it... I'd want to hear from people that have purchased the "newer" Precision Rubber Kits, or the newer kits from Motorsports or Classic Datsun Motorsports. They seem to be around $300.00 for their kits... I do know that the last OEM door jam weatherstrips that I found - cost just over $300.00 for the pair. Had to get one from one Nissan Dealer and the other from another Nissan Dealer across the country. Also a lot of the older NOS windshield and rear window gaskets are now somewhat brittle with age.. Looking for a "new" S30...
Just my opinion - based on pictures: Front Bumper is non-stock Large dent in the Driver side rear fender Driver side door jam weather strip bad..torn etc. Original Spare with the Original Valve Cap!!! Rust damage in the lower front fender Hey - the car is 42 years old and it was driven for 47K miles... Maybe not worth the BIN of $17,500.00, but on the other hand why waste months looking to save two or three $K on the initial price. How many clean, one owner, mostly original, sub 50K mile 240Z's are you going to find? I doubt you'll find one for $10K any longer - but you never know. I do know guys that looked for years... dreaming of hitting the BIG DEAL... If it is the DEAL your looking for this isn't it. If a clean low mileage original car is what your looking for - bid to win. If I were up to restoring another 240Z - I'd far rather pay $15K or $16K for that one to start with - than pay $10K for car that had four times the mileage, three layers of previous re-paints and a trashed interior and hacked up wiring harnesses... Spending that extra $5K up front usually saves you years or work and thousands of dollars. There is nothing that I see on this car that couldn't be easily addressed during a partial or complete refresh, or full restoration. That and it would be a pleasure to work on... But everyone wants what they want... to each his own. A personal inspection would be a must ... and I'd fly out to look it over before I paid for it. FWIW, Carl B.

240z synchros
All I can find there are parts for the FS5W71C & H. Nothing for a FS5C71A or B. Anyone know if you can swap the steel sychro's out for the brass one's in these transmissions? wariomobile - you might have better luck finding a newer FS5W71B, maybe one that has already been rebuilt. Or maybe contact the Roadster Enthusiast Groups - they may have a source for the steel synchro's or an aftermarket alternative. Try Classic Datsun Motorsports... http://www.classicdatsun.com/ Les has restored a lot of the older 2000 roadsters. Let him know you are only trying to find new synchro's - but as 5thhorsemann suggests - a positive I.D - or specific trans type is a must. Unless you have owned the car since it was new - no telling what some previous owner has done - the original 5spd. may have been swapped out years ago. good luck, Carl B.

Amazing - - Off hand - I can't think of an original equipment part for a 240Z, that is more rare than a NOS Series I dash... I see NOS 72/73 dashes every once in a while here in the US - usually in the $1500.00 to $1800.00 "asking" price range. Very hard to find a crack free Series I dash USED, then get it shipped and installed without having it cracked in shipping, or as its being installed. FWIW, Carl B.

In 1975 an ounce of gold averaged $160.86 In 2007 an ounce of Gold averaged $695.39. Today a ounce of Gold is around $1684.00.... So "IF" the wheels were worth $104.14 each in 1975 or $416.57 for the set of four. and: So "IF" the wheels were worth $450.00 each in 2007 or $1800.00 for the set of four. The wheels would have to be worth $4,361.56 today, just to keep pace with the devaluation of the Dollars purchasing power. In effect - the wheels cost the same today as they might have in 1975 used. If they were worth more than that in 1975 - then the owners along the way lost a bit of value. FWIW, Carl B.

One man job? Removing and replacing transmission
The right size plastic cap off a can of spray paint - will slip right in the tail and prevent about 98% of the mess... add a little duct tape and your good to go... Of course if you do this job often -you have kept the end off an old driveshaft to stick back in there.. FWIW, Carl B.

Years and decades ago - - - I took two of the transmission bell housing-to-block bolts to the local ACE Hardware. I think they were 1.5 x 10mm bolts - and bought two matching thread size bolts - except with about 3 to 4 inches longer shoulders. Took them home and cut the hex head off - when reinstalling the tranny - i screw them by hand into the top two holes in the block - then line the top two holes in the bell housing up with them - the tranny slides right into place... Saves a lot of twisting/moving/shaking effort with the tranny.. FWIW, Carl B.

New owner, life time Z enthusiast .
There was a pretty big Z Club in the Orlando area - good central location. Hot in the summer.. Only an hour or so from Daytona and the Cape.. It takes most Northerners about two years to adapt to the heat/humidity in central Florida - after that your almost a native! Sure is nice to drive your Z year round... FWIW, Carl B.

Heater core and radiator?
Interesting - our local radiator shop {shop instead of shops - because the EPA /OSHA shut down all the others in the county} - wanted $245.00 for a replacement heater core. Amazing what happens to the price of stuff when there is no competition. Same thing happened to Electo-plating shops around here. FWIW, Carl B.

The OMS Pace Car for 1972 had Dunlap wheels fitted. Our local BAP/GEON Dealer tried to order them - but they could not import them to the US because they were not US DOT approved - according to BAP/GEON. FWIW, Carl B.
