  1. Since we’ve drifted a bit off topic, I’d like to ask for your opinion on this idea. I know it’s not a Datsun, but I’m more interested in your opinion about the styling itself. Please let me know what you think of this GT-R 2000.
  2. There’s a chance it might not (happen) - let’s hope so. For now, building and operating data centers makes it really not add up financially. But unfortunately, it got me - so there is that.
  3. Thanks, Yarb - I know the state of the economy isn’t helping right now. I’ve been out of work since April myself - unfortunately I got replaced by AI. So I’m looking for a new direction, and from what I can tell I still need to keep searching a bit - that’s life.
  4. I think you’re absolutely right. Of course, this isn’t my only thing - I’m trying to cover all the JDM models I consider important. But we have to face reality and just keep moving forward. So I’ll wrap up the update on this project for now; if there’s interest, I have customization options in the store and then I’ll consider submitting it. Today I picked up a beautiful prototype with a Miata, and I think that will appeal to a much broader market. But thank you all for your participation and contribution.
  5. Ok, does anyone else have any opinions? Is this direction better? Because I feel like the interest is weak, I'm worried that my job might be pointless.
  6. OK, let’s stay in touch. Thanks for your patience.
  7. Okay, I managed to develop a mug design with a Datsun 300ZX Z31 Turbo. I’m still working on this project, but you can grab one here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4454512222/datsun-300zx-z31-turbo-jdm-mug-japanese PS: Jim, from what I understand, your T-shirt should be with you by the 9th at the latest. From what I can see, there seems to be a delay - did you get any info from the carrier?
  8. I picked up the prototype - it came out exactly as designed, so it’s already available in the shop. You can grab one here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4454512222/datsun-300zx-z31-turbo-jdm-mug-japanese Patcon Since I got a discount on the base mug for the prototype at the print shop, I’ll pass it on to you. You can use 25% discount code I sent you in a PM. I’ve also started working on the changes based on Dutchzcarguy feedback; it’s possible that with this body color, the stock lights will look better.
  9. I asked about it in the first post as you can see here. And I asked because the vast majority of cars I saw were modified. Anyway, I can change it, although it is definitely more difficult now. I can paint the fragments and assemble it in digital form because I already have a scan. But since almost all owners lower the suspension and change the rims anyway, it probably doesn't make sense. Besides, the OEM rims aren't that great. The exhaust fine; I can change to dual tips. I chose the taillight option I liked best, and it seems unique to this model. I don't know, I guess I'll see if there's any interest. I don't remember any other car with a rear filled with lights like this. I'll get my hands on the prototype tomorrow and probably decide what to do next. So far, I only have one review, and I was hoping for more feedback. So I could at least average it out.
  10. Thanks for that. That’s why I’m bringing it up here. What, for you, is the biggest departure from the original?
  11. Thanks for the info. I expected that because I have some experience. My wife's RC is such a rare car that it's serviced like a '60s Ferrari. It's a shame it doesn't have a V12 orchestra, although we still like it a lot. The front wheel is something I struggled with for quite a while because I wanted to achieve a counter-steering effect like with a power slide, and I didn't have a proper photo. I think I finally succeeded. The cup design in the software looks like this, and I'm ordering a prototype. It'll probably be here on Wednesday, but I think it will be great. What do you think, is the design a success?
  12. Okay, I know it's not much, just rough sketches, but I had a great day at the easel today. And I can see on my desk the almost finished Uploading Attachment...Uploading Attachment...ink effects. Once it dries, I'll straighten the paper, scan it, and prepare a prototype of the mug. Fingers crossed, I think it will turn out great.
  13. Thanks, that’s a really interesting site. I have to admit something: visually I’ve always liked the third-gen Camaro, but technically not so much. The Z31, on the other hand, somehow completely passed me by, and it’s a bit similar visually - very much that classic wedge shape I like so much. And then there are all those quirky details: the perpetually half-frozen pop-up headlights, the hi-fi integrated into the dashboard, and now I’m seeing it even has a digital instrument cluster screaming 80's. I’m starting to wonder what it’s like to live with one like that day to day - are they hard to maintain? I’m getting tempted to buy one, although here in Poland it’s close to impossible to find.
  14. Wow, a real beauty, I can tell you put a lot of heart into this project. But is the color perhaps from the 240Z palette? What you’re describing is exactly what makes things difficult for me later on, because it turns out that many cars have various parts chosen according to the owners’ preferences, and it’s easy to get lost in all that. So, thanks for breaking down what’s what. PS I managed to determine that the hood scoop was functional, and was factory-fitted only on turbo models from 1984 and 1985, as well as on facelift 86+ JDM versions with the 2.0L turbo.
  15. Yes, I've seen them many times. My 206RC has something like that, although in this case, the air is directed into the cabin. But my question is, were they factory-installed on the 300ZX Z31 and were they functional? Was it only in the turbo version? or regionally?
  16. I'm sorry, my wife distracted me and my brain switched to Polish. I think it was a factory element for the turbo version. I found it in photos from historical press tests. In my opinion, it seemed to provide more cool air to the intake.
  17. You're right 84/85, slightly lowered, body color is Cherry Red Pearl and simple multi spoke bronze rims. And and the rear package from KAMINARI bumper and Lights. This option is currently on my mind. I would be grateful if someone could upload more reference photos of a similar configuration that would allow me to paint it nicely
  18. OK, I’ve dug through a lot of material, but I still have some gaps. It looks like some Z31s were sold badged as Datsuns up to around 1986 - does that sound right? And what I like is the pre-facelift front and rear, but the taillights include an rare aftermarket piece: the KAMINARI center panel. Does that combination make sense and hold together?
  19. Thanks for supporting the thread. And thanks for the tip - I’m looking through it now, though it’s not an easy path. It caught my attention that some cars still have the Datsun name on them; I can’t find clear info on when Nissan dropped that branding. I thought it happened after the success of the 240 and 280, but it looks like I’m missing something. I love this interior - it reminds me of my dad’s old hi-fi gear. Such a great vibe.Uploading Attachment...
  20. Is there anyone on the forum who can help me a bit or is the z31 a lost cause? Maybe I should rephrase the question. I'll try to explain what I mean. I'm creating a Z31 variant in my head which I like the most based on pictures online because I've never had the opportunity to see one in person. When it comes to the front, I think I like this one the most but there is a problem with the back I hate this one This one seems interesting and quite unique but I don't know if it's an aftermarket one? because I usually see this I wouldn't want to create a Frankenstein, could someone give me some guidance? Please.
  21. If anyone is interested I also threw in a 350Z t-shirt, probably the last z-car I'll be interested in. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4451214951/nissan-350z-jdm-t-shirt-japanese-sumi-e
  22. Hey everyone — I’m creating an original sumi-e (ink brush) illustration of the ZX300 and I want it to feel instantly correct to people who actually know the car — not “close enough” from random Google shots. I’d love your input on what makes an z31 look right: Most iconic angle: front 3/4, rear 3/4, pure side profile, cockpit, engine bay? Must-have cues: headlights/hood line, bumper shapes, tail lights, trunk line, mirrors, stance, wheel style, interior details (anything that screams “z31”). Best factory looks: favorite OEM colors + wheel combos (and what to avoid). Common mistakes in drawings: proportions, ride height, wrong bumper, wrong wheels, weird greenhouse, etc. If you’re comfortable, feel free to drop your own photos (even phone pics are fine). I’ll use them only as reference for proportions/details, not as a direct trace. Please share photos only if you’re OK with them being used as reference for a commercial artwork later (prints/mugs/tees). Happy to credit your username when I post the finished piece, and I can send a small thank-you perk to contributors once the artwork is done. I’ll post a first sketch here soon and iterate based on your feedback. Thanks — I’d rather get the z31 “feel” right than produce another generic drawing, especially in times when we are flooded with so much AI slop. I'll add right away that although I really like the style of cars from the 80s, which I was born in by the way, I have a big problem with capturing an attractive shot of this particular model. I have a concept in mind with a Shiro Special 300ZX version, but I don't know if it won't be too far off.
  23. Jim your t-shirt is on its way, I assume it will arrive in a time similar to the previous shipment.
