Do you have pictures of how this part is installed?

I believe that the change over date has to do with the body and modifications to it. As mentioned, the tool storage change for example. Also, the rear vents moved from the hatch to the pillar. These are all things that required manufacturing tooling changes and would indicate the change from what we commonly refer to as series 1 vs series 2. The other parts mentioned such as transmission, hatch glass (defroster changes), steering wheel, etc. are all "bolt on" parts that they continued using until the supply was depleted on the manufacturing line as I understand it from everything I've read over the years. We really cannot use those "bolt on" items as a clear indicator of when the change occurred.

I finally got around to sliding back under the car to take pictures.

No clutch needed, I have a new one. I just need the fan itself, thank you for verifying. 🙂

Well I just searched my parts and I do not seem to have any other fans (I really thought I had an extra or two). I would like to see about getting a correct fan from you please.

Yes, this IS something I paid specific attention to when installing it.

I've done some poking around on the internet and it appears that the quick, easy visual difference is 7 blades for the earlier ones and 8 for the 280ZX fan. And yes, based upon this and what people have said here it appears what I put on the car is a fan from a 280ZX. 😞

Oh, this could be be the case. Is there an easy way to tell the difference?

This was a running driving car before starting in on the engine swap. The L28 is an N42 block with an N42 head.

Ok, so I have a 240Z that I have put an L28 in and just getting to installing the radiator. This is the stock radiator that I had cleaned up so it came out of the car. I managed to get it in and noticed that the fan was up against the radiator. I'm using the later model plastic blade fan. I'm not sure what may be the issue. I have replace the fan clutch, could that be the problem, is it too long? Any thoughts, input, experience on this would be helpful. If you need pix I can take some.

Yep, that's the JDM muffler, same one I have.

Good point, yes the collector also went to Jet Hot.

The headers went straight to Jet Hot and they shipped them to me when they were done; the rest of the exhaust came directly to me.

@Mike I would install the bracket then the pump, it is easier to get to the bracket mounting holes without the pump in the way. That is how I installed mine a couple weeks ago. I forgot to take pix so next time I'm under the car I'll get a some.

Keep in mind that everything in that post has been rebuilt, cleaned, polished.

Between my Rotozip and Dremel I was able to cut the heat shield off this morning. This takes a while but can be done with the engine in the car from underneath. Just be careful not to cut other things, like the oil pan itself. 🙂 I hit it with some paint and am just waiting for that to dry before returning to installing the headers. Thank you all for the pointers!!

After Mike has his sourced, I'd be interested in the same for a Z I have that which was in a front end collision.

Perhaps, perhaps not. My headers have been JetHot coated so.... Heat or no, that part must go one way or another unfortunately. ;(

Ok, I have a different question and problem now. I was installing the headers and the oil pan heat shield is in the way. I found someone had mentioned having to remove it. So I rolled up under the car with me socket to remove it only to find it is welded to the pan. Is there an easy solution? I'd rather not have to remove and replace the pan. I do have others so I could, it's just a massive pain from what I understand (never done it on an engine in the car only on a stand). Here's a picture if it helps.

Looking for pros/cons of putting a bicycle innertube between the bracket and the frame of the Z. My thoughts are that is may help with vibration transfer yet it will deteriorate and then leave the bracket attached loosely. Those are the pros/cons that come to my mind. What are your thoughts or better yet your experiences?

I finally got around to doing something with this. I dropped by my local Z mechanic last week to see what pro tips he may have and it was well worth the stop. Super simple fix using something everyone has in their garage (I was obviously over complicating it by seeking a pipe expander). He took a socket that was just barely too big and hammered it in the end to expand it ever so slightly, this also had the added benefit or making the tube perfectly round again (not sure if it was already or not). Super simple fix!! I installed it today and the install was just as I would have expected, a nice tight compression fit...tapped it in gently with a hammer. All is good. 🙂 Hope that this helps someone else in the future.
