Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Gavin, I hope you will find the right pipe for your carburetors . It is nice to hear from you had same issue just like me . It seems to me it is not that special pipe , you will be able to buy it at your local “ home depo “ store , will not be ? Thank you so much for your offer about the radio , I need to make up my mind , I need to set the goal for my #2146 before asking you about it. It is very fun to think about how I want my cars to be . Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Chris, I was thinking about “Her majesty “ , is she originally non- emissions type intake & exhaust? I believe you told me that before but my memory cannot be clear. Or only without fuel vapor system? By the way, I can’t find “ U98 “ models, I only found E98 which might be related your U98 .My parts catalog says E98 is a prefix for the parts of RS30 . I guess it’s exhaust manifold might have E98 on it . My non- emissions type exhaust manifold has “JAPAN E30 “ on it between No.5 and 6 pipes, and also has “ 1 “ between No.1 and 2 pipes . Also it doesn’t have any thread for bolts to retain the heat duct for the air cleaner. I saw “ 2 “ version for the non-emissions type , which has two threads for the bolts which is retaining the heat duct for the air cleaner. E30 exhaust was used for L20 and L24 without emissions devices. Yes my E30 exhaust has provisions for the air - injection pipes , but only basement. I see a Fairlady Z at the 1969 Tokyo motor show has the same exhaust manifold on it . I need to grind the unnecessary humps on the balance tube, to be looked like an early non emissions type ! Kats

Transition to the non-US intake manifold, I have a donor system which was pulled from a 1972 Fairlady Z (L20 engine model) . I was expecting I only need the balance tube but the water tube of between the two manifolds was so rusty. I decided to replace it with the one from the donor. I snapped the rusty tube , I was lucky the donor is very good. Today I have learned that when assembling the intake manifold, I have to wait final tightening the bolts on the balance tube until the two manifolds are secured . Also I tightened the two nuts for the water tube after the balance tube was secured . As some of you are wondering about the two plugs on the balance tube which are not welcome for my 03/1970 car. I am thinking about it to look just like an early L-series balance tube. Kats

Some work for my second blue 240Z. I wanted to see if Datsun 240Z has the same pin hole for the rear gate emblems . I found three holes for “Datsun “ is almost the same , only the one on far right needs to be more outside for “ Fairlady Z “ . “ 240Z “ pin holes position is exactly the same for the “ 432 “ . Datsun 240Z doesn’t have “ NISSAN “ on the rear gate, so if someone wants to have it , he /she have to measure the original positions then drill the holes. I am not going to put them on , just checked it for my curiosity. Kats

Hi Gavin, you scored nice original radios and clocks, I am so surprised that the average price of them are skyrocketing. I was hoping to get one for my second blue 240Z , but I will never be able to get one . Fairlady Z series didn’t have an automatic seeking system for the early radio . So I cannot look for the one in Japan . Maybe I will put my 8 track audio system or just a pocket for my second blue 240Z . Kats

Discover various "date",use cross-reference method
I found this label at the back of the wrapping, it says 95/03/04 (1995 March 04th) .This stamp could mean this windshield were delivered to Hiroshima region soon after it was made. So the markings on the windshield would very much say February 1994 . What do you think of it? Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Sometimes I just imagine what they did back in the old days, but I have only limited knowledge about history, only people who told me about WW2 was my grandparents but both of them were not engineers. I have some books about Mitsubishi Zero fighter. Very interesting to read , it is hard to imagine how they made tons of parts , assembled them and transported them for making so many aircrafts and ships and weapons, under the unusual circumstances. Japanese didn’t have much resources (still today) , towards the end of the war , materials were going downgraded, quality of the finished products also went bad , naturally. By the way , I did dry fitting of the Nissan sports option exhaust system, I am wondering the steering rod from the LHD 240Z would possibly obstruct the pipes . I hope not … Kats

Hi Alan, that thread is very interesting and the depth of your knowledge is outstanding. Japanese engineers had have been learning from overseas from long long time ago , just wonderful. I am going to have a non smog intake and exhaust system to my #2146 . Kats

Hi , this is the front windshield for S30 series cars . 72631-E4100 is a tinted glass which was applied to all S30 cars except PS30-SB ( Fairlady Z432-R ) and 1969 HLS30 and HS30 .There might be some exceptions . I checked the secret codes , this windshield could be made either February 1974 or 1984 or 1994 or 2004 or 2014 . The part number label is not the earliest type for S30 series cars . Also it is not the later type . So I guess this could be made either 1984 or 1994 . Kats

Fantastic!!! I enjoyed two videos so much, thank you for sharing . Personally, for S20 engine , I like the sound from engine bay rather than the sound from tail pipes. I would like to hear the sound more of “ moving parts , and turning parts “ . Your Z432 is so beautiful , 905 red is the one I always admire . Kats

280 floor pans
Hi Zed Head , I have zero knowledge about 260Z and 280Z , I didn’t know the floor pan is so much different from my 240Z . Interesting! Kats

Hi , this is an old thread , but I want to activate this forum again , to understand when the windshields were made . Have we discussed it before ? Our cars have ASAHI glasses , each glass has each stamps. Here is a decoding method for our glasses. Using the method, my rear gate glass maybe made in February 1970 . Kats

Hi Gavin, that is a point , what I am thinking to do for my 2146 is , just giving back to life again . Not trying to show in a concourse , just enjoy for my own . Some new parts and old parts are mixed up in a engine bay , it must be weird looking! Kats

Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your two super early cars engine data . I think L24-02338 #9828A , 1969 August 28th A . L24-02162 #9901D , 1969 September 1st D . It is always an exciting thing to see those rare numbers in our cars !! Kats

Yesterday, we inspected piston , this engine has pistons which have valve relief on top . I am wondering what kind of manufacture are they? The block has casting code 0211K , 1970 , February 11th K . 2146 and 2156 has the same date block . Edit : no, my 2156 has 0212I , one day behind of 2146 ! Kats IMG_6057.MOV FullSizeRender.MOV

Kamesawa san , who helped me out today , owns 1972 Skyline GTR ( KPGC 10 ) . His car , is non restored, preserved condition, so much original parts all over the car . He loves non restored car , so he said I must not repaint 2146 . And I am thinking it is nice to remain as it is . Kats

Some progress of my 2146 . I took off radiator, A/C units , exhaust, etc . This car had been serviced in the US, I found I needed tools for inches. So many bolts and nuts were used in inches, especially for the A/C system and the exhaust system which were installed in a shop there . I am going to pull out the engine soon , exciting! Kats

Hi Ian , you study Kanji , that is a great thing. If I were you , I would not have had that motivation for additional new language 😅 The emissions decal , that is a part two of emissions programs of the Japanese government. The part one was January 1973 , all cars needed to reduce 3 degrees of ignition timing . The part two was February 1973 , all cars had to have the green ball to reduce the ignition timing. The part three was March 1973 , almost all cars had to have new carbs , canisters, reservoir fuel tank etc at assembly lines ( S20 cars didn’t) . After March 1973 , when at a periodical maintenance and a Shaken inspection ( required by the government) , all cars had to have the green ball even if the car was made before January 1973 . My Fairlady 240ZG still has the green ball , but I can’t feel loss of enjoyment. My Z432 , I didn’t want it so get rid of it . Today at the required inspection, the green ball doesn’t have to be there , I don’t know why . Maybe it was a recommendation? Kats

Hi Captain!! I am glad that you like it , Spring season brings energy. I have heard a Mayer of Tokyo sent cherry blossoms to Washington DC 100 years ago, people are looking at the same trees like in Japan . Wonderful! Kats

Hi CanTechZ , thank you so much, I am happy that the maths is good. Like you said, it is great for that old engine. Now I am curious about our 3.364 rear final gear , I want to hear from someone put 5 speed into a US 240Z . How it feels in a town driving ? If not bad , then it will bring great fuel mileage, will not it ? My ZG ‘s FS5C71B has 0.864 for the 5th gear , with 3.900 final gear looks almost the same as 4 speed with 3.364 final gear, doesn’t it ? Next time I will test my US 240Z on the high way , I guess fuel mileage will be close to ZG , or the effects of G-nose and rear spoiler will make a obvious difference between the two cars. Picture is my ZG 06/1972 , no emissions devices .Accumulates 78000km , maybe no overhaul since new . From 03/1973 (HS30-102001 , S30-103001) all Fairlady models except PZ got emissions devices. L24 got HMB 46 W , canister box , reservoir tank in the rear right fender . However, no air pump! Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Ian , the pair of dash and the rear spoiler!! They must be a treasure for someone in RHD region. ENG must be English I think so too , and the other is unique. We have a very good thread about “ Kanji character “ under the dash in our forums, this will be a good candidate for the thread I think. As a native Japanese speaker, I see this is showing 可 ( pronunciation is “ ka “ basically means “ OK “ and / or “able“ ) . There are three style (basically) of stroke , the one which is written on the dash metal is the third style which is the most fast and rough stroke . Sometimes it is very difficult to read for our generation, I think some hundred years ago , This style was usual thing for everyone ( I see them only in a text book in school or Japanese old temples and shrines, that kind of museums etc ) . By the way, my elder sister has been teaching Shodo (書道) , Japanese calligraphy. Maybe she knows what the painting is. I tried to write for you , the left is the standard stroke 可, the right is the fast and relaxing style . However , what does it really mean? As I am reading our thread, we think these paintings on the dash metal are sometimes no meanings , sometimes means for model designation , etc . Kats
