  1. I think I agree with Mark. Your car looks about what I expected post blasting from what we've seen up until now. I have done this several times now and there is always a bunch more metal work then you really expect. If you can afford to sub out the metal work, I would do it. I've been working on my current project Z for 12 years and have a good bit yet to go. I would encourage you to take the most direct path you can afford to a complete car that you can afford. Then go make some memories with your kids. If you can afford to sub the paint you might should do that too. It's much nicer to have a running car then a long term project. My 2 cents...

Shipping would probably be $75 as a wild guess. The stripped head is aluminum so it should be too heavy
  3. I think you have thought this out well and the lack or existing patina does change the decision making progress. It sounds like a solid plan and the end result aught to be really nice
  4. I guess a question be would be. Do you preserve these battle scars that authenticate the car and it's provenance or restore it? I would probably come down on the side of restoration but I like the "history" that is displayed in the car.
  5. I was thinking boiling water too. Seems like a heat gun would be too inaccurate

The burnt engine is a turbo setup. I believe you can see an intercooler pipe behind the radiator. Also modified like Zed mentioned. Lots of ways to loght that car with a hot turbo right under the fuel system and near the brake fluid reservoirs. Especially if the tune was a little lean. The red car has the vented hood. Would be nice to know whats under the hood there. How old is that picture? I might can find it at Copart or IAAI
  7. That's why I call it "paint jail". You never really know when you'll get out

I bought a rebuild kit from him
  9. Super!
  10. The early carb system had a vent line from the rear of the car plumbed into the filter housing I believe

I would think 20-25k is starting to be low for a 280 in good shape
  13. Belmetric is a good source for JIS

You lose leverage with the larger master cylinder. Maybe try a more aggressive pad to make the pedal effort lower?

The $15, is to pay the guy to wander out into the warehouse, find it and then drop it in an envelope. I do agree it seems excessive but it might not be...

I looked through my O-ring assortments. I didn't find one that looked like a good candidate yet. I'm gonna keep looking locally

I thought that's what you probably meant but wanted to be sure. Sometimes things get lost in translation

I try to tape off all those decals before I bead blast them and paint them. That would be great if you can use these pictures later!

That is for a 280ZX. The heater parts look a little different. I wonder if it's possible to rebuild the older style valve with the newer parts?

I'm not really sure what to use. It would be nice to come up with a recipe for a longer term solution
