You can also check out Bring A Trailer auction site. They require some up front investment but might be worth it. I highly recommend replacing the door panels before you list it anywhere else. Those things are hideous and will affect the price. A $500 investment in the door panels should be recouped in the sales price. Whatever you end up doing, please pass our club referral to the new owner because we would love to see what happens with this car and any restoration progress resulting from the sale. Good luck! BAT: BaT Auction: 1972 Datsun 510 4-Speed at No Reserve
This 1972 Datsun 510 is a stock US-market four-door with two prior owners and 29k indicated miles on its 1600cc inline-four and 4-speed manual transmission. The original owner added the majority of the mileage in its first decade, reportedly towing it behind an RV and driving it only 7k miles between 1980 and 2010. Its second steward was a collector who brought it from Idaho to Canada and logged just 300 additional miles over the following six years before its purchase by the selling dealer. The car was the subject of this BaT feature in October and is described as mechanically solid after carburetor replacement and tune-up along with a new exhaust and fresh brakes. It has since passed a government inspection, and the sale includes a clean British Columbia registration. Pale green paint (code 546) is believed original except for above the beltline on the driver’s door, which was repainted with a slight color mismatch due to a past keying incident. The largely factory finish retains a nice overall shine thanks to decades of indoor storage, though collection of chips on lower rockers has exposed bare metal according to the seller. All four steel wheels wear clean, matching stock covers and older all-season whitewall radials. A small dent in the left front corner is joined by a larger version further back on the fender caused by a 2010 deer strike, which also resulted in the strip of missing paint just above. Panels are otherwise straight, character lines are clear, doors align well, and no evidence of further accident damage or repair is present according to the seller. Corrosion appears limited to small spots of discoloration where paint has chipped from the lower rockers and been sandblasted from the front valance. Exterior sheet metal shows no indications of deeper rust according to the seller, and nothing meaningful is visible on door bottoms, lower fenders, or other common problem areas. A cutout for an RV electrical plug was added below the front bumper for use as a motorhome “toad.” Chrome bumpers look straight and exhibit a deep shine with few apparent dings or marks, with other brightwork presenting equally well. All glass is described as free of scratches or pits, though some rubber weather seals are showing their age. Headlights, taillights, and side markers are all clear and look devoid of cracks or condensation. A brief exterior walkaround video is provided above. Factory trim and badging are complete and presentable throughout, including a correct silver-painted sideview mirror. The presentable black vinyl interior shows the effects of low mileage and indoor storage, exhibiting little wear apart from occasional looseness, a tear at the driver’s outer backrest hinge, and a separated seam on the passenger seat cushion. The headliner fits well and looks free of any damage. Original loop carpeting has held up well with slight discoloration around the transmission tunnel and a small worn spot at the passenger door sill. The padded “safety” dash is free of distortion and shows a single small crack on one corner according to the seller. Other plastics are described as similarly crisp and intact, and bright trim looks almost entirely devoid of fading or peeling. Factory instrumentation includes clear faces, bright lettering, and a five-digit odometer indicating 29k miles. Many controls appear almost unused, including the stock wheel, shift knob, HVAC levers, and knobs on the factory AM radio. The car was originally equipped with dealer-installed air conditioning and still retains much of the system, though the compressor is currently missing. All other lights, controls, and accessories are said to work as they should. Underhood, the 1600cc L16 inline-four and 4-speed manual transmission are said to be original and stock. A recent service included a new carburetor, tune-up, and replacement of the exhaust system. Most original seals show some weeping, but not enough to wind up on the garage floor according to the seller. Retaining original chassis tags and decals, the engine bay displays minimal grime and reportedly superficial corrosion looks isolated to the battery tray and behind the hood hinges as shown in the gallery. Service decals from 1974 and 1979 remain affixed to the door jambs. Said to start quickly and run as it should, the car exhibits brisk acceleration and straight tracking in the video above, along with effective stopping thanks to recently refreshed front disc and rear drum brakes. Fully independent suspension reportedly provides tight handling and a rattle-free ride befitting the low mileage. The car was registered in British Columbia after recently passing a government inspection, but as a US-market car previously titled in Idaho should theoretically present few issues for re-importation to the United States. Yeah I did NOT mean to imply his decision to back out of the original price was the right thing to do...... I was trying to make everybody happy (as usual). I still think we should help this car find a good home. I am interested in seeing someone from this club, or a potential new member, buy this car and restore it. The seller owns it now but he is obviously interested in getting rid of it. Let's do our part and get this CLASSIC Z get to a good home.

This 1971 Datsun 521 pickup is an 87k-mile driver that was purchased by the seller from California in 2010. Produced from 1968-1972, the 521 was the first compact half-ton pickup sold in the American market. Powered by its factory 1.6L inline-four and paired to a 4-speed manual transmission, the truck remains mechanically and structurally sound and comes with service records acquired throughout the seller’s ownership documenting the replacement of the brakes, water pump and hoses, clutch, and various seals. It is sold with a clean District of Columbia title in the seller’s name and is located in Washington, D.C. The finish is believed to be mostly original and retains a decent shine apart from a faded area along the roof. The body has an assortment of dings, scratches, and other blemishes commensurate with use, while some rust can be seen along the rear rockers and bed floor. The stock 14″ steel wheels were powder coated white by the previous owner and are wrapped in newer whitewall tires. The previous owner replaced a heavier towing bumper with thinner factory-style bumperettes that could benefit from a re-chroming. The bed exhibits some light surface rust and touch up paint in a non-matching shade of blue applied by a previous owner. The interior shows worn seating seating surfaces and several cracks on the dash. The plastic steering wheel exhibits some crumbling along its spokes that can be seen in detail in the photo gallery below. The simple dash panel remains stock with the original steering wheel, under-dash shelf, and radio in place, though it is presently non-functioning along with cigarette lighter and dome light. All other controls, functions, and instruments remain operational according to the seller, including the 5-digit odometer showing 87k miles. The headliner retains proper fit and shows no signs of rips or tears. The windshield remains free of any noticeable cracks and remains in good condition apart from some haziness in direct sunlight. The driver and passenger floor pans show rust that appears to have been treated at some point, and there are no apparent signs of rust-through according to the seller. The 1600cc L16 inline-four was last serviced in October 2016. Said by the seller to run and drive well, a recent compression check performed at the last service showed 145 psi on cylinders 2-4 with the no.1 cylinder registering at 125 psi. There were some willing buyers at the posted price, but, the seller may have come here to simply inquire on the car's value. I get the impression that @tse4me may not be up-to-date on what's happening with these cars, but, most of the frequent members of this site do. It would be fair, and the right thing, for our members to share our impression of what a car like this should sell for. @tse4me, it looks like you have a few numbers to work with in this thread. There are a few buyers at the price you posted above ($9k) and I saw that someone mentioned a $15k price (I don't think it was a bid... more like an estimate based on the photos). The next move is up to you, but, I think you could sell the car to a member of this site knowing the car would find a good home. It's times like these that I wish I had my auction software online. This 1972 Datsun 240z has 150k miles and was purchased new by the seller from Forrest Datsun in Redwood City, California. The car retains its factory paint and body panels, and benefits from an extensive mechanical refurbishment performed in 2001. Work included a full rebuild of the 2.4L inline-six, rebuilt SU carburetors, new fuel pump, replacement of many cooling system parts, reseal of the 4-speed manual transmission with a new clutch, and refreshment of braking and suspension components. Modifications include 14″ mesh wheels, aftermarket mirrors and exhaust, front and rear bumper over-riders, and a period stereo upgrade. The car has been garage-kept in Washington for nearly 30 years and has been driven sparingly, with approximately 1k miles placed on it since the work was performed. This 240Z is sold with a clear Washington title in the seller’s name. The car wears its original Red (110) paintwork that is close in color to the more popular 918 Orange often seen on early Zs, though it exhibits a darker hue when viewed in different lighting conditions. The finish retains a clean, well-preserved appearance, benefiting from frequent waxings and the avoidance of inclement weather throughout its life. The car has remained free of accidents with imperfections said to be limited to a few small door dings as well as a small development of rust along the driver-side rocker sill that can be seen in detail in the photo gallery below. The exterior remains stock apart from the installation of period side mirrors, front and rear bumper over-riders, and a set of 14″ mesh wheels fitted with newer Bridestone Potenza rubber. Lenses remain clear and crack free, and the chrome trim retains good shine and proper fitment. The exterior rubber trim shows equally well remaining well-preserved and free of any excessive fading. Apart from a new carpet kit and the reupholstering of the driver’s seat, the original interior shows quite well for its age and mileage. Though the seller notes the new driver’s upholstery is not an exact match, new material for the passenger seat is included in the sale. The original dash remains free of cracking and interior alterations are limited to the aforementioned carpet and upholstery, as well as the installation of a period cassette player and leather steering wheel wrap. Though the gauges remain fully operational, several accessories are noted by the seller as non-functional including the rear window defogger, windshield washer, overhead dome light, clock, rear hatch key lock, and the heater, which the seller describes as not producing any flow through the heater lines and will require further diagnosis. The rear hatch area remains tidy, retaining its original trim panels and accompanied by new carpeting for the hatch floor. The quilted vinyl surfacing along the rear shock towers, wheel well, and transmission tunnel remain free of any scuffing or rips and show well in the provided images. A removal of the carpets reveal the original floor pans that remain solid and dry. A thorough mechanical refurbishment was carried out in 2001 that included a rebuild of the original 2.4L L24 inline-six to stock specifications, as well as some other mechanical work listed below. Running car without Airbox filter on!
I would never run without a fuel filter. You chance getting something stuck in the carbs and making your mixture project even worse. As far as air filters, you can run without them as long as you stay away from dirty air (dirt roads, driving near sandy beaches, etc). This 1973 Datsun 240Z is a stock example that is in largely original condition thanks to spending most of its life in California and Arizona. The has some body damage and the driver’s side of the car was backed into when nearly new – the damage was never repaired. Included in the history file is the note from the person who was responsible and the repair quote from 1973. The seller is including straight replacement panels, and has gone through the car mechanically to make it roadworthy. New parts include new brake hoses and lines, new underhood hoses and belts, and all new fluids. This 63k miles 240Z is sold with a clean Wisconsin title and with some work can be brought to a higher standard. This Z retains original equipment such as the enlarged bumper overriders and hubcaps. The passenger side of the car has some dings but is more or less straight. Per the seller the car’s previous owners owned several movie theaters in California and Arizona, and the region’s dry climate appears to have preserved the car nicely. The paint is sun-baked and has degraded on the roof. Two damaged areas are present on the car, pictured above and below. Replacement body parts are viewable in the gallery. Here is the damage on the right rear quarter, near where the quarter panel meets the taillight surround. There is another dent is present on the hatch. A replacement door, hatch and a replacement quarter panel section are included with the sale. The interior appears original, down to the stock radio, steering wheel, shift knob and boot. The driver’s seat has a split seam in its original material, and a crack is present on the dash over the middle gauge on the center stack. The cargo area is tidy, with clean black carpets and factory diamond-stitched vinyl. With the spare tire removed, the solid spare tire well can be seen. The engine is unmodified down to the original Hitachi carburetors and airbox. The seller has performed several services, including changing oil and brake fluids, fitted new brake lines from front to back, and replaced all of the hoses and belts under the hood. Though the aging suspension bushings are somewhat noisy and could stand repalcement, the car is said to drive down the road just fine. The underside of the car is straight, and wears what appears to be original undercoating. No evidence of past rust repair is apparent according to the seller. Here is note left by the person who backed into this Z in the 1973. The seller humerously notes that the body shop’s quote does not have an expiration date, and that it may be worth seeing if they still exist and will honor their $12/hour labor rate. The seller is including rust-free replacement panels to help repair the damaged panels. A new door, rear quarter section and a replacement hatch are all included.
