Scarab Research
Hi all, I am looking for anything to do with the SCARAB modifications to the Z. They had quite a following in the 70's and I want to collect as much information as possible. A few years ago I saw a very nice Scarab conversion at the Motorsport Nationals. I'll find a link to the images and post them in this thread. But, if you have collected any data on this please post it. I would like to see original ads for the Scarab cars as well as any parts or specifications. Oh, and pictures!!!

Need bracket for factory cruise control in my 71
I have the same extra cable on my '71. The cable was connected to the throttle linkage giving a driver the ability to set throttle thus eliminating the need for the foot throttle. Yes, it could be used as a cruise control. Nothing wrong with that.... BUT, there is a safety issue. Just as Enrique explained, the throttle had no method to disengage in case of an accident or emergency situation such as slamming on the brakes or pushing in the clutch. Current cruise controls will disengage if the brake is applied.

Ok, thanks for the explaination. I just don't understand why you would hold out on the other members by not sharing your knowledge. And, doing so just because you don't agree with me on an issue. Believe it or not, I believe you have contributed to the success of this club. To hold back your contributions because of a disagreement really does nothing for anyone. The reason I make decisions, such as the ones mentioned above, is in my interest to protect the club or the members within the club. I am typically known for doing whatever it takes to protect our content because I want this club to be a success. Therefore, I encourage everyone to post and share whatever they can. Disagreements with management can be taken up on a different level. This site is so full of useful information for classic Zcar fans... it's priceless. The whole reason I started this club was to make a central location for the classic Z. I'm proud of what we have all accomplished here. And, I am a little protective over it... -- Mike

Oh, I didn't know what IIRC meant. I didn't know that was a disclaimer. Sorry about that. What are you talking about when you say "hold their property hostage?" Just by removing the users ability to delete their own photos doesn't mean it can't be deleted. If you must know the details, the delete option was removed because it is buggy. Right now I don't have it enabled because it has deleted the wrong picture and modified the database pointers incorrectly. I need some time re-creating the thumbnails, database pointers, and links to assure that the delete option is functioning properly. I don't want to lose stuff that isn't supposed to go away. For someone who says that it doesn't matter... you sure are very opinionated about this issue. I am not holding any photos hostage (see above). The delete option is a convenience to the user and it's just not working properly for me to trust it. The logs are VERY good. It shows every single action performed in the gallery. And, yes, it does show that ZmeFly logged in, deleted his entire gallery, and logged out again. I am currently going through the logs to find out who gave him permission to do so. Because the ONLY way it could have been done is by having the right permissions.... *OR* a bug in the delete functionality is also on my radar. When something is posted to this site, there is a joint copyright on the content. At the bottom of every post we show ©Copyright Classic Zcar Club. This includes EVERYTHING that is said or posted here. The joint copyright is to protect both individuals from fraudulent use. It also empowers the Club to work on our members' behalf. I don't appreciate your implication. I have worked many hours trying to get those photos back. ZmeFly actually went to various shows for me acting on behalf of the club. His photographic work was part of the reason we had such a good gallery in the first place. Why he did that I have no idea. You're right. It's all my fault. :tapemouth Anyone can delete any photo (of their own) at any time. They simply need to send me a message with a link to the image they want to delete. Nobody is holding images hostage. And, we have no conspiracy going on here. -- Mike

Carl, again you are operating on limited information and claiming you know enough about the situation to voice an opinion about it. I have the admin logs and can see everything that happens behind the scene here on the club. There were a lot more galleries deleted than you know... and, when the fiasco was over... many of those people wanted to put their gallery back online. BUT, the fact that they had to re-upload all of their images prevented them from doing it. So, we lost. If you have info into the ZmeFly incident, please share. I want to know what really happened with that one. Oh sure, say that after you got YOUR point across. You are right though, I won't worry about making an issue about this again. I couldn't possibly write enough words to convince you that my decisions are to keep our site going in the right direction. Let's just say that if I changed... this site would turn into another meaningless site with a bunch of banter. I like it when people tell us that we have the best Z content on the 'net.

Are you serious? I would think that it's more important to share knowledge about the Z by passing it on to others. This benefits other people and will only strengthen the value of our purpose of being here. If I had more people posting pictures rather than members deleting their ENTIRE galleries based on an emotional response, we can talk about putting the delete function back. Again, I must stress that our biggest contributors were getting pissed that their stuff was showing up on other websites. I would like to have a gallery full of images and rules, rather than a gallery with no images and no rules. Here's a quote from one of my business partners... "Would you rather have ALL of nothing......... Or would you want PART of something big?" What's keeping you from posting them? Our rules?

I agree with your thinking about posting pictures on the web. But, if people never posted their pictures, they wouldn't be famous! I think the original issue with limiting the ability to SAVE was to 'help' people remember that images cannot be used elsewhere. Everybody knows that images can be saved. However, by removing the CONVENIENCE of downloading them with a simple mouse click, it resulted in a 'happy medium' for everyone. But, looking at our poll, most people really don't care if their images are saved. Click HERE to see the poll. My biggest problem was this.... Our gallery was continuously filled with images of the people who didn't want their images used elsewhere. I didn't want them to stop uploading!! I still want everyone to upload images because I want to be the best place on the 'net to come and see Zcar images. The funniest part of this story? The loudest complainers are the people who don't contribute. LEECHERS!!! Go figure. -- Mike

The bloke must be dreaming
Wow!! The AU dollar is stronger than I've seen it in awhile (nearly 80 cents on the dollar). A few years ago, the AU dollar was around 55 cents on the dollar.

What do you mean? When you click on a thumnail to view a larger image, that's downloading an image. Oh, I think you might be referring to saving an image. Nonetheless, when you click on an image to see a larger representation of it... you're downloading it. It's all bandwidth man...................

Keep in mind that the server will re-sample all images that are uploaded, so, your interpretation of his actual image size won't be correct. Here's how it works.... I put a limit on the file size and the image size. I believe the current limits are 2mb files and 1024x768 resolution. The server will then process your file into three different files. Each file is stored as: high res, medium res, and a thumnail. The system will also apply another compression on the images using the JPEG standard at a 90% quality level. I think the system might actually reduce the DPI of the image as well, but, I'd have to check on that one. Most web graphics only need to be shown at 72dpi and cameras store photos at 300dpi. The system is confiugred this way to allow others to download what they want to see and not have to wait for extra large images if they have a slow connection. Now, if you process your images and reduce the size before uploading, this will reduce the amount of time needed to upload an image.

Yea, but zguitar might be uploading 1.5mb images. That was my point.

It also depends on the size of the images you are trying to upload. You both might be trying to upload different size picts and the time will vary depending on that. A simple way to understand this is looking at the maximum Megapixels your camera is rated at. The more Megapixels, the larger the file. Simply put.. We could get into a huge discussion about image size, quality, compression, color depth, etc etc... But, I'll keep it simple for now..

I just picked up the game tonight. The drifting is a hoot! I also like the off road racing. Pretty fun game even with the default cars. I can't wait to start opening up new ones.

Leaded fuel is OK to run on no catalytic cars! Race GAS :)
What?! Now you rained on my parade. I was gonna go run cat-wizz in my car because I thought it had a high-octane rating. After it blew up (and attracted all of the neighborhood cats), I was planning on making you responsible for my actions. Besides, everything on a forum like this must be 100% accurate right? :pirate: Just playin...

Leaded fuel is OK to run on no catalytic cars! Race GAS :)
Ah, I remember back in 1988 and 1989 when I was working for my grandfather. He owned an airplane fuel business in San Diego. I had just graduated from Highschool and he asked me to come run his business for a summer. It was a great job with many fringe benefits.... One of the benefits was Avgas at COST! That entire summer I ran my '71 240z on 100/130 (green). My engine never ran better! The pinging went away along with stuttering off the line. Idling was absolutely smooth and I noticed that my tailpipe was no longer black... it was a light-grey. Anyway, it was really nice that I could pull up to the truck and fill the car whenever I needed. The special permission to run my car on the tarmack was also a thrill! Talk about your 0-60 tests... I think I played with that every day.... I was later told that my '71 was designed to run on leaded fuel at a higher octane that what we can buy now. While the 100/130 was a bit overboard, the car did very well and could handle the extra combustion due to the higher compression engine. I also found out later that hardened valve seats are desired in these engines to accomodate for the lack of lead. I later attempted to purchase Avgas for my car (from a local Oregon shop) but was turned away. Apparently they can't sell this fuel for your car because the government didn't get their CUT on the taxes. There is no safety reason why you can't pump Avgas directly to a car. Most Avgas trucks utilize a "static line" which is connected to an airplane. The static line is used to prevent grounding sparks transferred from the plane to the truck. When fueling an airplane it's advisable to reduce the quantity of sparks for obvious reasons. The risk of a spark from an automobile is a lot less of an issue. So, the reason why you can't pull up to the Avgas truck is simply due to the government. They seem to always be there holding out a hand..... filthy beggers. I suggest you find a good "friend" in your local Avgas guy. Oh yea, don't use Jet-A on a gasoline engine. It'll damage your car. However, it will work GREAT on that diesel engine! My grandfather used to fill up his diesel Buick with that stuff and it ran a lot better!

DynoMax Super Turbo
There have been many threads about exhaust size in the mailing list over the years. I think the major points were related to sound. A 2.25" exhaust is quieter than a 2.5" exhaust and the performance differences are null. I had a 2.5" exhaust and absolutely loved it. Of course I didn't drive my Z long distances. The sound from this setup is amazing and I had people asking me if I installed a V8 in my car...
