Valve guides or seals?
Your oil consumption could be a symptom of a car that has only done short runs for a while, which builds up moisture in the oil. Then a long run will cook the moisture off, lowering the oil level. Valve seals are a cynch to do if you have the right lifter. There are a couple of methods to hold the valves closed. Compressed air, which requires a compressor and spark plug compressor adaptor. Rope in cylinder. Plastic tube in cylinder.

My Z Won't Rev
A friend had set the firing order on his Z, and had tried for two weeks to get it running. It was obvious there was a problem. It would run but not rev. He was going by a drawing in Haynes manual and was counting clockwise around the dizzy instead of anticlockwise. Funny, he had two paid mechanics couldn't pick up the problem. DOH. Five minute fix.

When you changed spark plugs did you get the plug wires mixed up? Do you know how to check that?

240z still not starting
I have a synchrotester, and ditched it in favour of a piece of half inch plastic hose to my ear. You would be surprised how accurate it is. Hearing the same vacuum pull is not hard.

Would you run this?
I would try to get it cleaner than that. Paint remover then 2 inch wide paint scraper. You can do it withought gouging the metal.

240z still not starting
It's running way too rich or there is poor intermittent spark. Or both.

240z still not starting
Clean and tighten all the low tension wire connectors from the distributor to the balast resistor and coil. Worked for me. Does this car have standard ignition? Could be a failing condenser.

240Z " the long way to new again"
Hey there Bart. I just read through your thread, and am absolutely amazed at your determination on trying to fix that rusty Zed. Most people would not have attempted it because of so much rust.

Accident repair of my 70 Z
A good tip from 'Mikes Z' on putting fishing cord under the rubber lip to raise it when painting. I have done this and works a treat, and i am very fussy, but don't like unnecesary work. You DON'T need to pull the glass. Just lift the lip. It will take all of 10 minutes, and the paint can go right under the rubber. Of course if your rubber is knackered then pull it out and replace it, or you may want to check under there for rust.
