I have a late240z (7/73 production date so I assume it is a 3 wire) with a tach that runs way fast. Does anyone know definitively which other years will fit my car without modification? Thanks.

Just so you guys know, it is possible to buy just the throttle bodies from Ztherapy. This means that you have to swap all the other parts off your existing carbs, but you'll have brand new throttle shafts, which are the parts that tend to wear out. I did this on my roadster, and it only ran around $270.00 (with exchange) instead of $630.00. The carbs on my new z appear pretty tight, (though not exactly clean), but I will absolutely use Z therapy againif I need carb work done.
  3. I have a square port header that came with (not on) the '73 240 I just bought. The car has a N47 on a f54 block and a stock, smog manifold (not sure if its from the original L24 or the L28). My question is, can I mate up the square port mani with the round port (as I understand it) head, or would i be better off trying to barter the square port mani for a round port one? I've spent some time combing the archives but haven't found the specific answer-sorry for any redundancy, and thanks for any advice.

Thanks. Is the Nissan manual better than a Haynes book? Also, after closer inspection, the block IS a F54, with a N47 head. Based upon what I've read, I'm not sure how that works without super high compression unless the pistons have been swapped for dished. I know the compression is not that high based upon the way it drove home. The car has a stock exhaust mani and a dinky (appx 1.5") pipe to the rear. Glad to have a Z finally.

Well, after searching for a while I finally picked up a '73 240. The body is about as unmolsted as I have seen-the sound of metal everywhere you tap, and the interior is in great shape. Even the friggin clock works. It has a N42 block w/N47 head but the original 4 speed. I have short term plans to dial it in, and then long term plans for mild building. So here are my questions: 1) Tach is off-it shows much higher than actual rpms. Can I remove the tach from the rear or does the dash have to come off? 2) Any trick to bleeding the brakes, or can I just drain the lines? 3) (Longer term) Can I just put a P79 on the existing block with flat top pistons, or is the the F54 block significantly different? Thanks for any input.

I saw Mr. K's car last Saturday at the Datsun Heritage Museum in Murietta. Any of you that find yourselves in the area should check it out. There are some nice old Datuns there.

Ok, thanks for the responses. We don't have that issue on the roadsters because they are built on a frame-actually a pretty beefy one. In fact, that large cross member under the tranny is why I've been living with a bad syncro for the past 16 years. You have to pull the engine to get the tranny out.

I've owned a 311 for about 16 years and have recently decided I need to add an early Z. So a the owner of one that I looked at yesterday said they tend to twist, and his had small fatigue cracks in the paint at the bottom of the A pillars and at the top of the "C" pillars near the hatch. He said that every Z he'd owned had the same thing. Has anyone ever heard of or seen this? Thanks in advance. Todd.
