removing asphalt paper
thanks for the guidance - I did a search on tar mat and found a few ways to remove it I used a heat gun and it went quite well - got most of the passengers side done in about 1 hour last night I found a patch done by some other owner, but otherwise very minor surface rust that will remove easily - the view from the underside looks ok too. What purpose did that mat serve - was it to waterprooof? regards Dave

removing asphalt paper
I tried doing a search on this but no luck - maybe I havent used the right lingo. What is the best way to remove the layer of asphalt type paper that is over top of the floor pans? I have removed some of it with a chisel and found rust some below. My idea is to remove it all then coat everything with POR 15 before I install new carpets. Anyone help? regards Dave

72 interior carpets
Gentlmen I wish to replace the carpets in my 72z - this is NOT a restoration, but I want to be somewhat period sensitive - look style carpet will be used I want to carpet the transmission tunnel and the area above the door scuff plates - I am not a fan of the diamond vinyl in these areas. can you give me some advice? - get a custom intaller? - is there a molded kit from a later year? - maybe 260z,(I could do the work myself) - some other multi piece kits out there to use? I see a ton of suppliers on the internet - Any help would be appreciated regards Dave

Sumo Engine Co - Vancouver BC
Gentlemen I am a recent member to the club and have purchased a 72 240 with a engine rebuilt (L28) by "Sumo Engine Co. (Canada 1992) Ltd They were located in Vancouver BC I have the warranty and service papers but nothing more than that. The work was done in 1995. The felllow I purchased it from said it had a performance can in it (very apparent) Anyone heard of this company?? - I know little about performance builders for Z cars and would appreciate any info out there. Personally - the motor seems a little over the top for a street car (as I wish to use it for) and I am considering bringing it back to a stock L28 any info or comment that would help? regards Dave

found was I was looking for - 1972z almost done - 59000 mi - needs some interior work, but otherwise in very good shape rust and structural wise, nice paint job - will have to address some exhaust fume issues but I have a plan thanks to all the posts on this site about those problems - Great reference material!! - has L28, perfomormance cam, triple mikuni carbs, msa ignition - would give my M3 a good run for the money! so this winter, strip out interior, new gaskets, plug any hole etc to get ready for new interior in the spring. regards Davis
