Jepherz's Datsun 240z restoration
One of the reasons I like the M Coupe is because it's so reminiscent of the 240Z! It has a similar "swoopy" but muscular design with a sweet straight six under the hood. The S2k also reminds me of the Z, as it's fairly lightweight, curvy and muscular and has a hell of a drivetrain. Back on topic, looks like you have your work cut out (literally). Keep up the great work!

Jepherz's Datsun 240z restoration
Off topic, but is that your M Coupe? I love those cars, and am considering getting one (if I don't get an S2000)!

Lowering a 280z
Cutting springs is not a bad idea. However, I would not cut stock springs, they are too soft to begin with. By cutting them, the car will drop but the ride will not be pleasant, likely bottoming out on large disturbances. Ride comfort is determined by the combination of springs and dampers, with the dampers affecting comfort more-so than the springs. I think Eibachs with Tokico Illuminas should give a comfortable yet sporty ride, plus the Illuminas have adjustability so they can be set for cruising or racing. You say you'll be using Tokico dampers, but which ones? From your sig pic, it looks like your Z is already lowered. Are you trying to lower it more?

Okay i am confused
It's been done many times. Make sure the cam spins free when the towers are torqued and you're good to go.

Okay i am confused
Why? Just swap cam towers and be done with it, procedures are on the web if you search. Basically, slowly tighten the towers down, making sure the cam spins free. Some slight tapping with a rubber mallet may help...

Yes. A 3 inch will very likely improve upon a 2 inch pipe, an be on par with the 2.5 inch (diminishing returns). A 3 inch pipe will certainly not hurt performance in any part of the rpm range, contrary to what myths say. I am doing a bit of exhaust dyno testing on the 20th and will report the results, but as far as the 3 inch pipe comparison, well that's already been done. Courtesy of zhome.com

What On Earth, is THIS?
Poor neglected cooling systems, wonder what'll pop up next!

Parked a 70' 240Z in my garage today...
The very early 240Zs had two levers, but they definitely weren't split up by carb. One lever was the start enrichment and the other was an idle speed lever. I think the reason for removing the idle speed lever was because of safety concerns (people using them as cruise control), but that is just what I've read and not necessarily factual.

BTW, don't you just love surprises when pulling water pumps! Here's one of mine: I flushed (many times) with water with the thermostat houshing and water inlet off (those were also replaced).

350z ---> Datsun 240z drivetrain swap?
Austin Hoke, among others, documented his VQ swap on hybridZ. Look up 240hoke.

Tranny Oil
Read the FSM and use the specified weight/class oil. I use Redline.

Rating the factory 240Z fuel vent hoses
Same thing happened to me at Kragen/OReilly. Needless to say, I returned them and found large diameter fuel hose at a local race shop (Gotelli's in SSF, great shop BTW).

Preload? Stiffness doesn't depend on preload... You can't rely on your "butt dyno" to say there was no difference. Unless you put the springs in a spring tester, you can't draw that conclusion. Depending on how much the springs are cut, the increase in stiffness may not be drastic but it will increase nonetheless.

fuel return line needed?
I don't understand why people think return lines are evil...

Necropost of the day! This thread is over 7 years old... It's a coil spring. If you cut a coil off, the spring constant (stiffness) will increase, no matter if it's progressive or linear. k= (G*d^4) / (8*n*D^3) k - spring stiffness G - a constant dependent upon material used d - wire diameter n - number of "active" coils (this varies with the type of spring ends) D - average coil diameter Therefore, stiffness increases as you decrease the amount of coils, increase material rigidity, increase wire diameter, or decrease average coil diameter.

If those are the choices, then it's definitely 110! Absolutely beautiful!

help, 240 parked 15 years non-op
Check with the DMV. Only way to know is to ask, you wouldn't be required to pay on the spot or anything. If you have the title, everything can be done legally. It will be up to the buyer to pay off fees if they want to register the car.

Triple Mikuni Fuel Line Set-up
I have one in every car, with the Z's being behind the passenger seat for easier access while sitting in the driver's seat.

Greetings
Andy, Sounds like you've had your hands full! The roller crank is what really does it for me. Well, the chain driven axles do it as well! Honda used such cool and unique designs on their S-cars. Good luck on your speed quest! I have a 2/71 240Z that's stripped and ready for paint, but I've been focusing on my early 260Z, so if you have some 260Z-specific questions then I can try to help. I agree that it is easier to justify modification of the 260Z than 240Z, but both are fantastic cars and honestly nearly identical if you don't go deep into the details. I have a little thread here, with some pictures and video if you're curious. I've typed out a much longer story of my Z-experiences in my hybridz thread, if you have the patience to read it! You Roadster sounds like a sweet car as well, can't wait to see your projects unfold!

240Z Eibach Springs in 260Z
No problem, I'm glad to help out! You're right about the 260Zs, they don't get the respect, but I enjoy their "quirkiness"!

Honda S800? You need to post pictures and any video you have! You are a lucky man, those are such sweet cars!
