  1. and here's an interesting development: i went out to drive the car to work this morning, and she was dead as a doornail. i'm positive i didn't leave any lights on, and i didn't have time to find out what was wrong. the battery is brand new O_o
  2. not yet. i took out the air filter, and it didn't change anything, so i've ruled that out. i checked both of the sensors in the thermostat housing, and they're both pretty perfect, no corrosion at all. wiggling either one had no effect on how the car ran. in fact, i'm pretty sure that someone has already replaced the original connectors with the quick release type; thanks sblake01 for posting the info about them before i tried to pry the wire off of one. lucky coincidence O_o are there any other sensors i should check before i move on to the next possible cause? i wonder how difficult it would be to cast new rubber side pieces....
  3. haha, that's the biggest item i'm missing. all the rubber bumper side pieces. i've got the one in the front center.
  4. yeah, probably the number one question i get asked about my car is something like, "are you gonna get some cool spoilers and mods and such?" noooo, i'm pretty purist. i want it to be as close to original as possible, though i am considering some brighter instruments in the future.
  5. unfortunately, i don't have a garage, but my dad is building a house about an hour from here that has a garage that will house 6 cars (he has a triumph spitfire and a 67 beetle; it must be hereditary), and he says i can store her there when i'm prepping her for paint. he also says that he thinks the original bumpers are hideous, but i rather like them and think i'll keep em just the way they are.
  6. well, i'm photoing almost everything that i'm doing on the car, and posting progress on my facebook with details. but i've also uploaded some of the photos with limited comments into a gallery here: 76 datsun 280z enjoy!
  7. do they just pull off, no clips or anything? they don't seem to want to come off, and i'm a little afraid of forcing them.
  8. where is the connector? do i have to remove the air flow meter to get to it?
  9. i can't find my gauge anywhere, so i'll have to go buy one, and then i'll let you know what the results are.
  10. i'll post em as i finish em!
  11. stickerman- too right about the watermark. thanks for reminding me.
  12. i'll check it as soon as i get home from the office.
  13. if it was driven, it was driven very little. i believe it was not garaged, either. i'd ask the guy i bought it from more question, but he kind of cut and run and is incommunicado. what do you need to know? i'll see if i can answer.
  14. argh, sorry i save it as CMYK. should be fixed now.
  15. i just got it last month, and only got it inspected last week. it's been doing this since i got it. i should probably also mention that the longer the car runs, the less it tries to die. it smells fumey pretty constantly though.
  16. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this thread, so i'm sorry if i should have posted elsewhere. I've been trying to come up with a creative way to support my 280z restoration, and since i'm a graphic designer i thought i might see if anyone would be interested in buying some of my drawings on shirts or posters. Here's a sample of what i'm thinking of having printed. If yall like it and think you'd buy one, let me know. If it's an issue of the color of the car being undesirable, let me know what you'd prefer it to be.
  17. The car starts up pretty well, though every once in a while it'll immediately die, and takes some coaxing with the accelerator to get it to stay running. When idling, at first rpms will hover around 800-850, then slowly drift down. The car starts running rough, rumbling, until it gets down below 700 rpms and dies. Also, when coming to a stop and idle after swift acceleration, the car stinks of exhaust fumes and gasoline. Is this a fuel injector problem? I was going to replace my fuel filter; would that be a waste before i know what's causing the problem? --------------------- 1976 280z Automatic
