  1. The way all of you guys talk about the "young ones" with the big pipes in the back of the hondas makes me feel really mature. I feel the exact same way that you guys do. I have alot of freinds that fix up "rice rockets." They sure do look fast with the fiberglass body kit but 9 times out of 10 it is stock with a noisy pipe. This one guy i know fixed up up a 91 accord with almost 300,000 miles on it. He put a turbo and nos on it. I will aggree that us kids are dumb like that. You know how the old saying goes. A bird doesnt learn to fly till it falls from the nest few times. I just turned 20 the other day and I'm having a blast restoring my 72 240. It has an L28 F/I and will probably beat the pants off any of my freinds with ricers. I almost get some kind of apprieciation fixing up a car that is older then me...epsecially when it's 10 years older then me. I feel I more respect and interest from all ages and interest and not just the "ricer street race scene." I wont be just another annoying, noisy, wannabe, honda driver. I'll be driving a Classic! ...oh yah and noisy too Z pride! Steve
  2. If you are running a late 70's L28 engine in an early 70's 240z, what is the best kind of radiator to use? Can you use a radiator from a 280z? Are they all interchangeable like the engines are? What is the recommendation. Thanks guys
  3. I have an N47 Head with F/I. I noticed that there seems to be 2 different types of Intake manifolds. One that looks like it has 6 separate tubes and the the other (like i have) with the tubes all webbed together. Is there a difference. I would also like to get rid of the EGR seeing how i have headers and i dont need to smog it. Is there any suggestions for performance and/or for looks. That EGR is sooo ugly!!! Thanks guys
  4. That thing looks cool...let me know how it turns out
  5. My car is all primar.....for now:classic: . Its kinda cool because your dont have to worry about scratching the paint while you work on its mechanics.
  6. Hey, could you give me the internet address for some of those places. Also, if you have the websites for places that have them already made as well that would be great. Thanks, I appreciate it.
  7. I was just curious to see if any one knew if anyone makes a custom fuel rail for the F/I L28's. I hate the look of the tubes and connecter hoses. Am i way over my head here?
  8. I have a digital camera...I'll take a few pics of my setup and post them up for you to see. Thanks alot...i appreciate the help
  9. I'm currently fixing up my 240z. It has an L28 with F/I. I am seriously considereing buying the crane cams xr-3000 Electric ignition system, HI-6 variable spark ignition, and also th ps-91 high performance coil. These are all in the msa catalog. What are some of your opinions on this setup. I want to replace the OE ballast resistor, transistor and pickup, basically the whole ignition system. Is this a recommended setup? Thanks
  10. Thanks again for all that input. Sounds like i need to do some investigating with my cold stat valve/cuircit and air flow meter. That was an interesting tech article thing you had there. The only problem is that my car doesnt have an oxygen sensor. I heard that was normal because some of the earlier F/I systems didnt have them until early 80's. Am i correct with that statement? All sensors hooked up to my computer are as followed...Coolant Temperature sensor, thermotime switch, air regulator, cold start injector, air flow meter, throttle valve switch. The only thing that doesnt appear to be hooked up is the coolant temerature switch. And im not sure where its supposed to do or go. Am i missing anything? Thanks again
  11. Thanks for the info sjcurtis. I dont know if it matters but the airflow meter apears to be aftermarket. It's made by vane. Would that change anything? Is it possible i have the wrong one? The computer is made by bosch and it has all the numbers for the bosch stock numbers but i dont see anything by nissan. The egr has been disconnected because of the headers. And the coolant temerature switch (not temp sensor) doesnt appear to be connected to anything...what is it's significance? Thanks again
  12. Oh...i was unaware that they made them anymore. Should i just call the nissan dealer? How much approx. do you think they would cost?
  13. Is it totally unheard of to make your own? For the F/I system? Couldnt you take the old harness out of the car and duplicate it using new wires and pigtails? Or is there some danger in doing this that i dont know? Possibly wire guage specifications or something like that. Or is this just more work then it soounds. Anybody know?
  14. Just tell me where to sign
  15. That is a pretty cool site. Too bad it is all for GM cars. Do you know of a site/company that makes universal harness kits for import such as a datsun? I need a F/I harness more then anything. Also, i have a modified 240 with F/I. How can i find out if my computer is the right one for what i have. Can i go through bosch to find out. I dont know what the guy did before i bought it. It's an L28 and it is running really rich. It took less than a month and the spark plugs were toasty black. I need to know if the computer is getting all the right signals. Any body know where i can get some info for a wiring schmatic for the computer?
  16. How hard would it be to make your own? I've thought about re-wiring the complete engine harness myself. I was going to buy all the pigtails from msa and then re-wire starting from the computers connecter. I dont know how difficult or risky this is. But it may save money and improve engine performance.
  17. I'm more in it for the looks because this flowmaster does not look right on the car. It looks awkward. I like the look of the monza set up but i want to know if i will lose performance and/or tone quality. They advertise the system to work well on stock cars but what about modified cars with headers? What kind of setups do you guys with modified Z's go with? Thanks for your advice
  18. I was thinking about getting the Monza Exaust System for my 240 from victoria british. Are these kits worth the money. I know they look nice but i want to know how they sound. Right now i have a L28 with 6-1 headers that goes straight back to a flowmaster. Right now it sounds abnoxious and loud. I'm looking for a deeper and smoother tone. Any Suggestions? -Steve
  19. What brand is the best kind of gasket? And where can i get one? I'll do anything to get rid of this exhasut leak. By the way...if the header is warped , like at the flange or so...is there a way to fix it or should i just order new headers right now?
  20. Does anyone know a good way to stop header leakage? I know that seems like a pathetic question. But my headers were leaking pretty bad (from the port area). You can hear the "pat pat pat" sound comming from them. I ended up taking every off...intake manifold and all....cleaned and taped the threads....put a new gasket...tightended everything back up and the dang thing still leaks. It sounds even worse now. I looked at the old gasket and you can tell thats where it had been leaking from. Any suggestions to what the problem is and what i should do? I was thinking about just taking it to a muffler shop or something and see if they can just fix it. Thank you Steve 1972 240z 77 L28 F/I engine
  21. I posted something about this about a month ago but the problem didnt go away. I have a 77 l28 fuel injected in my 240z. After cleaning up the fuel rail/injectors and also the throttle body my engine developed a idle problem. When you push on the gas the rpms go high and never come back down. The linkage and everything is ok. The only way to get the rmps to come back down is if you put it into gear or to shut off the engine and turn it back on. (but once you hit the gas again...it comes back) I found that if i move the wires around and rotate the throttle valve switch the idle changes. I havnt been able to find any vacuum leaks...So can i conclude that the throttle body is bad? All the moving parts including the butterfly are working OK. I already ordered the performance big bore throttle body. Is there any way i can test this stuff before i spend more money on a new throttle body? Thank You
  22. Alot of things on this car seem to be aftermarket. It has a performance intake (looks much like the end filter of a K&N Cold air system). The filter is connected to a boot that goes to the air flow meter. The MAF appers to be aftermarket. But the connecter fits. How do i go about finding out if it is the right one or not? The throttle body is stock. I was thinking about getting the performance throttle body from motorsport. Do you think it's worth it? Here's another thing... I recently took off the fuel rail w/ injectors. I noticed that none of the o-rings for the injectors were present, yet before it sealed OK. Now...they leak air which i think is causeing an uncontrolable idle. The ECU wiring harness looks pretty brittle. Where can you buy another wiring harness. Im also beginning to wonder if the ecu i have could be for a different year and maybe it requires an O2 sensor. Can i call bosch and ask for a wiring schematic or something like that for that specific computer. There alot of loose wires and it would be nice to know what they are for. All in all...im wondering if it would just be a good idea to replace all the sensors for good measure. Sorry to go on and on...but im having a hell of a time trying to figure this car out. Thanks again guys PS.. who makes the best service manual...i have the one from Chilton...But it seems to tell me crap about testing any of this stuff. The wiring schematics are very hard to follow and the wire colors dont match
  23. We talked all about it in this post here... Speedhut Gauge Post Also you should check out thier website...you can design your own. Im getting dissapointed though becuase not many people are pre-ordering thiers. As of right now we only have 6. We need 14 more before they tool them. So spread the word
  24. Does anyone know how to test the fuel pressure regulator? I am still having a problem with a rich mixture because im getting black smoke and black spark plugs. I have a fuel injected 75-78 L28 in my 240z. Any other idea's as too why i might be getting a rich mixture? FYI...I got the car in a salvage yard so im trying to piece it back together. I was just wondering what things i should test and how. THanks guys for info.
