"D" Cap Stamped Number
When I first saw the number I thought it might be linked to the VIN. Guess that was totally wrong!

Rear Spoiler
Did anybody make a spoiler that did NOT overlap the rear quarter panels? I have one that is either missing the "tabs" for each side or was designed just to fit the hatch. I dont think I will be installing it on the 70 but may install it on a 71 or 72 after this one is done. Any help?

"D" Cap Stamped Number
Mike, Attached is a picture of the edge. You can almost make out the "1042" in the center. Steven, you keep contributing to this board, we'll worry about the math;) Thanks Guys!

I need an official ruling....
Carl, Thanks for the quick reply. I think that I should have been clearer. Where I said "estate" I should have said "executor". The original title (which i have) had the original owners name on it. The title I have to transfer into my name has the executors name on it (it was the original owners nephew). Looks like I am the "third" owner.

"D" Cap Stamped Number
Does the number stamped on the inside center of the original "D" caps mean anything identifiable to the car? I just picked up a matched set of 4 with the number "1042" stamped inside of all 4. Thanks for the input. John

I need an official ruling....
As the title says, I need an official ruling. I recently picked up a 70 from the estate of a guy in California. The guy who died was the original owner. After his death all papers for his cars were transferred to his estate executor including the title for the z. I know that "technically" the estate was the second owner but does that really count when bragging about my Z? Thanks for looking! John

3 Die...Will it ever stop?
My first car in 1981 was a 71 240 after I had it rebuilt I believe I got it up to 128, on an open road at 12:30 AM, alone in the car with no one else around. To this day I think that was the stupidest thing I ever did, let alone doing that with other people in the car AND in traffic. That was 27 years ago and kids are still doing it. It will never end. The key is to not provide kids with that kind of speed, be it a crotch rocket, sled, wet bike, boat, or car. They just dont have the mental aptitude to think about the carnage they could cause or the consequences of their actions. John

My 1970 240Z!
Did you buy this car from someone in Tennessee? I think I was in contact with the seller at one point.

Head questions
Thanks for the reply Arne. Yes, I do plan on getting it back to original. Should not be too hard. I think I will pick up the E-31 head I found online and hang on to it until the next rebuild. It runs great now so that may be a while. Things I found that arent period correct or are missing: - Front spoiler - Front apron corners (removed for installation of the spoiler) - Quarter panel "Datsun" emblems - Seat belts are date stamped 1978 - Crack Free Dash is a Nissan OEM and was installed in 1982 but has the cross on it and large indent for the cigarette lighter (I will be selling this when I find a correct one) - Ashtray and fuse cover is missing ($$$$$! from what I've seen) - Radio is missing - Original wheels were stolen and replaced with aftermaket rims - The above mentioned head - Tool covers are missing - Jack and tool kit (Except for lug wrench) If anyone has any of these and wants to talk $ or trade let me know. My rear glass also has NO defroster lines. I understand this is a rarity in the very early series 1 Z's. Weird thing is my console has a defroster switch but I cannot find the defroster plug in on the hatch. Not sure if this glass was replaced but it is Nissan OEM glass. Thanks for the reply That is all I have "Found" so far. It doesn't sound like much until you start searching for parts. One other question while I have your attention. What about urethane bushings and etc. How much of a no-no is that? Thanks for all your help. John

Head questions
I recently picked up a 70 series 1 and was going through the receipts that came with it and noticed that during a rebuild in 78 the owner had to replace the head. This prompted a mad dash to the garage to see if they found a e31 head or bought an e88. Its an e88. My questions start with this one: If the head was replaced did they have to replace the intake and/or exhaust manifolds too? I think the intake manifold says e48 on it. Any benefit to picking up and rebuilding a e31 head? (performance, value, gas mileage, etc.) TIA John
