Engine runs fine. When it first starts, while cold, it does emit a small amount of visible vapor, however once warmed up its not visible. While cold if you were to stick your hand near the tail pipe you will get little black dots, I'm assuming thats carbon. I havnt checked the spark plugs, but wont have a chance to work on her til friday evening.

Hey guys hoping someone can help me out here. I live in Las Vegas, and recently bought myself a 77 280z. This is my toy, that I am restoring. However, I'd still like to have it registered, as it will be a work in progress. I went to get it smogged, and it failed miserably. CO ~10% 2.5% is max HC ~1200 500 is max Pretty bad.. I think its because its running extremely rich. There is definately a gas smell coming from the exhaust. Also the gas mileage definately seems really bad, about as bad as my 90 mustang gt. Anyone have any idea what I could do to fix it? I checked the EGR valve and I think its faulty, so I'll be replacing that. Could this be the sole cause? Or do I need to have the AFM adjusted? What else could I check/do at home as I dont want to spend the horrendous charges of a shop? Thanks.

What is the AFM? Im kinda a newb to the Z only had it for about a week, but always wanted one.

Hey guys, new to the forum, need some help. This problem just developed last night, suddenly, and out of the blue. When I am idling the car will die. When it does this I get a spike on my tach from the 800 idle to 3k. This leads me to believe its gotta be something elictrical. I don't even know where to start. If anyone has ideas please post them. I'm not very knowledgable so try to give some instructions as to how to do things or explain what the part in question I should be checking looks like/where it is. Thanks.
