You heard right, a hand throttle. It was the 240z version of cruise control! It only appeared in the early models, such as your's. Probably of no use in NZ, but no-doubtably popular on the freeways in Japan and the US. By the way, congratualtions on a fine pickup.

    It's the hand throttle!

Hi Gav/Carl, Just to clear up a mis-conception. 004 was on display for sale at Zed Spares [Hi Lindsey & Trent ]! It was at that time I believe, still in possession [owned] by/of the Corbett family, Harry's son Trent had custody of 004. It was officially on the market and I believe it was sold back to Japan, don't however quote me on this as it's un-substantiated. I will try to get over to see Lindsey soon [get the stubbies in the fridge if you're reading this, LD] and I'll post more info for you.

Without looking at the manual. I have no idea. This shows the importance of having the FSM at your fingertips when undertaking operations such as this. From memory [and I wouldn't trust it], I thought the cam sprocket lined up on #3. Now I'll sit back and wait for the corrections!

Mr C, It's making your zed & mine looking better everyday. It's pleasing to see that the TRUE value of our cars is being seen!
  6. And a double cut for the doors!

So these early cages would have been homoligated, right?
  8. Zedrally posted a post in a topic in Interior
I think this is only half the story. How did the factory cage mount in the dash area, or was this option a 1/2 cage? MN
  9. I know it's external, also has a couple of fuses attached. From memory it's located , I can't remember without going out to the car, perhaps someone else can step in.
  10. Sounds like the shunt may have gone open circuit.

Oh, I forgot to add: Remnants of 68 zed found by Redex Round Australia crews in Aussie outback.

Wow again, Georlz de-bunked!. Steering Wheel is wood! The only other good news I would like to hear is about the metal G-Nose! Keep it coming guys. MN PS. Don't worry about offending anyone with differing views, everyone is probably wrong anyway!

Well, you could knock me over with a feather duster! Just as I wrote to Alfa about "rubbery " figures, the truth is about to emerge. Excellent work Kats, we can only hope that more will be revealed.
  14. Alfa, Those Aussie figures are pretty "rubbery That 2+2 I picked up was a 73 production model, I'll concede it most probably was sold in 74, but the plates identify it as a 73 production. Also where are the local market [Japan] numbers, in others, I think not? Sadly we may never know the true figures and an educated guess is the best one can hope for. [unless Alan has access to more reliable figures]?

Simple, Get them to replace it for $5k. You won't see them write out the check fast enough. Seriously, it's a game of bluff. Don't accept there offer and ask them to re-instate the car.
  16. Reminds me of the Irish man sent to blow up a bus by the IRA. Burnt his lips on the exhaust pipe. ROFL Are the withdrawals starting already? MN
  17. Why bother Alfa, you don't have a Zed anymore.
  18. Join the RACV, take out their Total Cover and nominate the car on that member policy, fly over to WA, make sure it isn't drivable back to wherever & you need to be back home tomorrow [or the day after], call the RACV tell them you were heading home when the F$%%@# thing blew up and your mechanic is the only one who can fix it! Next you know you have an airticket across the continent and a car being freighted back home all for under $200! Bless The Total Care package & the RACV , it's got us out of a couple of big jams over the years!

Before you go down this path, make sure that the belt you are replacing is CAMS approved to the relevent standard, else if you take it out on the track you may have a scrut knock you back. In some states this may also make your vehicle un-roadworthy. Unless you have a log booked car and intend to do any serious racing or rallying then I would advise you NOT to alter your harness from factory.
  20. Have always used it as a DD. 330km from a 60L tank and apart from the normal servicing runs great. Couldn't imagine not driving daily now!

Never being one for V8 conversions, I must admit that this one looks interesting. I wonder how it will handle with the majority of the block being mounter rear of the front struts. Could one call this a mid mount? Possibly it may be as close to it as a zed would get!

Steve, I'll hijack the thread.... briefly! There are quite a few 240's around doen here that have survived the forests. Many are owned by members of the Historic Rally Association and rarely come out. The Alpine in November will probably have 5 or so rear there heads..hopefully. Most of the others have been relegated to Tarmac Events, unfortunately. ROP killed any aspects of my using the 240 in the forest, it was an overkill for older cars down here. Thankfully the HRA are organising events based around TRE regulatrions [timed to the minute] and have been encouraged by ARCOM to use this as a basis for our own type of rally. This has been provisional named Historic Navigational Trial or HNT. This is the first year that several events of this nature have been trialled, only time will tell if the concept is succesfull. The 240 is a definate 240 underneath, and has been considerably strengthened in those areas as well. As I mentioned earlier, the change in CAMS regs reluctantly forced me away from further developement on this car. Mike

Hi Steve, I've had the car 5 years now and it's been progressivly worked on up to 2 years ago. I suspect it was used as a circuit car by a PO as the engine has been worked. Very little else is known about it [unusal, as most known "hot" cars are well known by most others in Melbourne, more than likely it was worked early in it's life and then passed hands several times to owners who had little interest in Competitive Sports]. I've stopped developing this one as CAMS requirements are to stringent for me to keep developement up, instead, I planning to develope a 260 from shell upwards, needless to say I have my eyes open for a suitable donor!

Damn! Now I can't say I've got the youngest 240. Sounds like a big three O coming up!
  25. What! You're not suggesting I'm a fustrated rally driver in the 240 and a volvo driver in the 260?
