Driving Light Mounts ~ Safari style
Hi Guus, I've revived this thread as I have made a start on the bumper..finally. I'm using parts from the 260 to make the front brackets, however, I'm having difficulty in determining the drop [depth as you have called it]. Photos of the works car looks like it might be 50mm or there about? Would this be close? Mike...

Does anyone know????
Can't help there as the gallery isn't up as yet! MOM

Does anyone know????
Rick, I think you have mis-understood what I meant by Radiator Support. It's not the sides of the radiator, rather the underside. If you don't have a spoiler or similar then a phot of precious head on would indicate if it's a 240/260 shell. The 260 is much lower, ie closer to the ground than a 240. Unfortunately, if you don't have both cars to compare than it's difficult top pick. I try and get a photo of mine side by side for comparision. MOM

I know I'm a bit slow sometimes but what has a radiator got to do with the question that you asked?

Hand Brake Handle
Oh, this is interesting. Aren't the handles all black plastic or did some models come with the wooden steering wheel material handle?

Choke lever help
I have done this on the 260 when I mod'ed the console. I just used a piece of right angle mechano type metel [slotted angle for those to young to remember mechano]. Not a difficult job, makes one wonder why the factory didn't adopt this approach? MOM

detonation damage?
I should have added that it can be repaired, so don't throw it out!
-
detonation damage?
This has been caused by water damage, in this case the headgasket has been blown for a long time before repair.......

Name this rare L24 manifold
This was used on the 260C models.

what did i break? (voltage regulator)
Is it normal? I have no idea! I've ditched the regulators in my cars in favour of IR Alternators. One would need to ask whether you had the motor running in which case it would be 100% normal. Ignition Switch to On or Start would probably be the same. I don't think that it would be on Acc or off, but there are more learned members on this board who can advise you in this matter....

what did i break? (voltage regulator)
Sounds like a RF Suppression capacitor. Does it Just have a wire running to it and is screwd/bolted direct to the body? If it does then it won't effect the performance of your car, only the radio! MOM

Os Giken TG24-B1 heads
I think you'll find that we all support in in your endeavours to have this engine, however the majority of us do not have spare cash like this to assist you in underrighting a major project like this. I'm sure all that have replied, indicating to you why it's no longer manufactured wish you every success and I'm sure we all would like to see a 240 powered by of these rarities. Please keep us all informed of your progress on the project and good luck... MOM

Os Giken TG24-B1 heads
By itself it went the same way as extractors.... mariginal percentage gains which by themselves couldn't justify the cost!

Better Alternative Alternator for 240K
If you go down this path and hit a wrecking yard, make sure you also take the brackets, just in case you need to "modify" them to suit.

Os Giken TG24-B1 heads
Gee Alan, I'm surprised that you didn't mention the cost of these heads when they were available. Around $20K from memory........ MOM

triple SUs
Can of worms and many questions.... Wouldn't the same hold true for triple webbers? Obviously not, so why are they different? MOM

Special Service Tools (KV40100800)
Are the seal kits for the struts still available? I've been unable to locate them here [Aus] and that would be the only reason that I would bother with the "special tool". However, having said that I know that using that gland packing tool can make life much easier and if it's available at a reasonable cost then why not buy it? MOM

Timing chain replacement
So we could conclude that it was not the chain or tensioner or cam sproket that caused this directly. In fact, it was in-correct assembly and no chain or tensioner replacement was neccesary. In my opinion chain strech would cause mis-timing which could be adjusted on the cam sprocket, obviously there must be a factory life, and this is what the original question was. Anyone with a FSM handy? MOM

Timing chain replacement
Was this attributable to chain strech, tensioner failure or did the cam sprocket slip? MOM

Paint systems
Can't wait is probably an understatement, I've been driving the 260 around for the past 2 months and certainly miss the zip of the 240. There is just so much difference between these to cars that unless you own and drive both you would probably never notice! Ah yes, the paint system, I have no idea. I mentioned the new PPg Acrylic Urathane to him, however was expecting it to come back just in Acrylic until I spoke to hime last week when he sealed his lips and said it's the latest and was extremly surprised with the ease it went on. All that I can add at this stage is that he needed to hire a heater! Cost so far is [you won't believe it} $250 for paint, primer materials he has used. I suspect that a lot has been scrounged up from other jobs and is being done as repayment of a favour that I did for him some years ago. Although a slab every now and again was appreciated. Unfortunately, he lives in Central Victoria so it won't be of any use to you. Now we await another 2 days, if you don't see any reply that would be because I'm speachless about the job. I'm hoping it comes out half reasonable as the 2nd 260 is heading his way in July. MOM

Paint systems
If you can wait till Monday, I'll give you an up to date report on my re-spray, picking up the zed on Sunday..... My FIL won't devulge the paint system he used at the moment, apart from saying it was state of the art! God, the mind boggles when you let a 70yo loose with a spray gun..........

280ZX Seals
Bit surprised they can't help with door & boot seals? Didn't think there was much difference between s30 & s130! Targa Roof is probably a little advanced for them. Have you tried your local Nissan Dealer, sometimes you might be surprised with the stock they still have. MOM

Does anyone know????
They are identifiable by the radiator support bar [frame]. The 240 is much higher off the ground, while the 260 is lower. Early 260's had the 240 radiator support hence the difference. MOM
