Tuning 40 DCOE Weber 151 on an L24
Mitchell, When you get tired of gazing out over those beautiful mountains in your backyard and you want to work in the garage, try that RX-7 pump. Quiet as can be. You can't even hear it with the key on and the engine off. Cheap too. Only $45 IIRC. On a Mikuni note, Keith Franck has really dove into the carbs Silverstreak dropped off. He has pointed out weaknesses, found where they tried to improve on the Weber design, and I think started to gather ideas to improve them. Silverstreak does about 90% track with his car, though he does drive it to events. If Keith comes up with some prototype e-tubes, Silverstreak will be testing them at Laguna Seca this Fall... Stay tuned. I will open a new thread on Mikuni improvements when that happens...

Fuel pump
Still on a quest to wire the fuel pump into the factory harness. Sadly, I do not have the two relays and two harnesses depicted in Carl's attachment above. If you have a parts car - I need the following: RELAY A - 25235-P0100 RELAY B - 25230-89915 HARNESS A - 24032-N3300 HARNESS B - 24034-N3300

Opinions on value - Rust free 240z
That's pretty cool! Usually when you find a 'rust free Z car' what they really mean is that the rust is free! Seriously, they need to get it running at the asking price. It should move under its own power so you can evaluate the engine and transmission. The interior is not insignificant but at least it is all available new still... I would put it closer to $1500

Tuning 40 DCOE Weber 151 on an L24
Any of you Mikuni guys who have been following this thread, Silverstreak (Bill) dropped off his Mikunis at Keith Franck's place today and his initial comment on Sidedraft-Central is that it appears that Mikuni just copied the Weber design on tubing and jets and such. What I take from that comment is that he believes he can improve them... Exciting news for you guys!

Tuning 40 DCOE Weber 151 on an L24
I would agree with everything Leon said but one thing... My Z is about 90% street use. If I could, I would reverse that number but alas, I still have a 15 year old at home so I have to keep working... Stephan, I suspect there is a market for your slightly used jets? I have some 50F9's in my box of used jets...

Tuning 40 DCOE Weber 151 on an L24
Here is one of the things I took from the discussion; Most problems in cars that run ok, are covered up by running the carbs rich. When you back off pig-rich, you may uncover some other problems you need to take care of. When you drive with these carbs on the street, you are likely running on your idle jets. Even possibly the highway. Leon got the tuning sequence according to Franck down in his post above. I think Leon's car came out better than mine yesterday because he has a rock-solid ignition system and mine is 40 years old but in good repair. His O2 readings were rock solid. I also think Leon wants to get his so close to perfect that he will be the guy to watch with his next moves... 8)

Northern California Weber (maybe Mikuni) tuning day anyone?
Oh I'm not concerned about catching Bill. That's just garage bullsh*t. He's a very good friend. Not my competition. 8)

Stephan, I already did. Go back a few pages and you will see my initial post in this thread. I called Peirce Manifold and did some changes and those are listed too.

Northern California Weber (maybe Mikuni) tuning day anyone?
Rainman, Keith is already commenting on Sidedraft-Central about getting ahold of some Mikunis from Bill and 3D mapping and designing solutions for them. I have mixed feelings on this as Bill is already too fast to catch. Not sure I want his car running better... :disappoin

Thanks for coming Leon. I will be switching to your ignition system as soon as you PM me with parts list and a starting timing map! 8P I can't wait!

Stephan, just back from the first Triple Trouble Carb Clinic. Big news for you, Keith will work with you until you get it right. You can just pay for shipping stuff back to exchange the Hypojets you don't need. Second bit of big news is he will be looking into making Hypojets for Mikunis. I can't believe the difference in my carbs! Not much difference in the top end, but wow do I have a crisp and quick responding bottom end and midrange! Highly recommend Hypojets!

Northern California Weber (maybe Mikuni) tuning day anyone?
What a great day! Glen, Patricia, Leon, Mark, Bill, Tim, myself and our carb expert Keith. My car ran good but now it is so much more responsive and crisp. The A:F ratio is in the 13:1 range at 70mph cruise. So very much better! If you have Webers I highly recommend Keith's Hypojets! If you have Mikunis don't fret, Bill offered to drop one of his off so Keith can develop Hypojets for them! And why not? Bill doesn't need his Mikunis! He goes through head gaskets as often as I do oil changes. 8O

interior panels?
They aren't torn... Probably too nice if that's your need...

Northern California Weber (maybe Mikuni) tuning day anyone?
It's going to be pretty intimate... Even Bill may not make it. He blew another head gasket at Thunderhill on Friday... Moral of this story? Don't let Bill drive your car! 8O

interior panels?
EScanlon is right. I looked for two years. New ones, yes new ones come up. Usually one at a time. One, just recently, but it was a 280Z 2+2. I have a 'good' condition passenger door in red. The chrome has come off but I could dye it black for you. Contact me off line by PM if you're interested.

interior panels?
Jack, the hardboard is shaped so I doubt that most guys with garage skills would or should attempt it. But there is a guy in the Bay area in California who has recreated the hardboard section in fiberglass. Strictly510 is the name of the business but I don't think he is web based. He hangs out mostly at HybridZ and his screen name is Rayven something... I used that method and here are the pictures... First, you have to cannibalize a pair of doors for the metal tops. Then, you rivet the metal top to the fiberglass panel. At this point, you test fit to the door and drill holes and router them to the proper shape. I used some GM plastic panel rivets to attach the panel to the door. Finally, once you have everything drilled, you apply the vinyl and rivet the fuzzy to the window side. Not that hard but more expensive than buying new panels which as has been said, pop up from time-to-time... Cost: Fiberglass panels - $250 + shipping Vinyl - $250 + shipping from Classic Datsun Motorsports Various small costs include: upholstery foam, contact cement, rivets.

clean the hard lines? fuel pump or fuel pumps?
See the thread about the RX-7 fuel pump in the Electrical section. It is very quiet and runs about $50 shipped. I have triple Webers so I run on the mechanical alone. The mechanical pump cannot keep up at WOT. I would run some kind of solvent through the hard lines and blow them out really well. As for the rubber, absolutely no 40 year old lines should be used. I would use modern EFI hose. It is expensive, can be $5.00 a foot but the ethanol in modern fuel will eat anything that isn't made for modern fuel. That will ruin your day and burn your car to the ground. The fire department calls that a CarBQue. Only thing is everyone is having fun but you...
