Message to the GUYS of CZCC
Khrystina doesn't seem like the kind of gal who needs to be protected but I think Mike has a good point. If a woman posts here, no one should feel the need to protect them. They should be treated with respect. As to the "Welcome to the Internet" comment. If the intention was to say 'this is the nature of the culture' and it is too bad... That is one thing. But if the intention was to say that 'this is the nature of the culture' and there is nothing you can do about it that is quite another and I see why Mat got defensive. I know Mat personally and I am sure if you can explain the intention of what you said he might be less offended. My wife (in the avatar picture) is a member of some of the sites I frequent under the screen name Yopu. She is always treated respectfully. Why should it be different here?

Sacramento Area Carbo Load and Chat Session...
Mat, I insist that you go to the Zoo with your daughter. Although this is a Porsche Family Reunion birthdays win out... Enjoy your day and say hi to the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZebras

heard a rumor today...can anybody confirm it??
I have found that the cars that spend significant time right near the ocean have some level of rust issue. Inland, what doesn't rust will have rubber rot. Rubber rot can be as expensive to fix as rust. Ever try finding a 30+ year old seal? Of course you have... I forgot who the audience here was... Still, you are correct. I am amazed as I drive down the street and see 70's and even 60's cars being daily-driven.

They are going to tow my Z!! Part 2
HOA sometimes have some pretty unreasonable powers and the homeowner signed on when they bought the property. I had a rental property that was in a very nice Sacramento area called Gold River. The HOA said that all cars must be parked inside the garage, not in the driveway. There was no parking on the street on the side my house was located. My renters couldn't even leave the garage door open for extended periods. If your car is properly tagged and insured and has no obvious equipment problems like missing lights or broken glass the Sherriff should really have no problem with it absent a complaint from someone else. I would bet you have come into the sights of an HOA officer. I am not entirely being tongue-in-cheek when I say, you're toast. Move out.

They are gna tow my Z!!
It is possible that the key code is on a tag inside the glove box if you can open the door. Language is a living thing. It evolves as we do. Like it or not, text typing is part of that evolution. Let's give her a break and concentrate on the situation.

Sacramento Area Carbo Load and Chat Session...
Julio, This is about the people. Not just the cars... It never fails that someone needs something welded and one of the guys is a good welder or someone used to install stereos and one of the guys just bought a bunch of boxes of stereo stuff and he is looking at it baffled. We all just need to meet and expand our resources. I just happen to be both a Porsche guy and a Datsun Z guy... Come on out in whatever runs... We all would love to meet you...

Sacramento Area Carbo Load and Chat Session...
I get a group of guys together monthly at a place in Fair Oaks called Family Donuts and Deli... Corner of Fair Oaks Blvd. and San Juan Avenue. This month it is on August 23rd at 9am to noonish. In the past the turn out has been mostly Porsche 914 guys but Mat has come down and another Z guy whose name I cannot recall came last month... Anyway, come on down, have a donut and some coffee. Chat with the guys and start your weekend right...

Stock interior leather seats?
My 280Z had that same "arm rest" as depicted. It was aftermarket as I recall and I believe you could buy it from Bob Sharp Racing Catalog. It was hinged at the back and tilted back to open up that tray located at the back of the console...

Stock interior leather seats?
Carl is right. Leather is available through both CDM and MA. I suspect though that it is more likely a case of ignorance over deception. I have a new set of seat covers and padding sitting in the garage waiting for me to have time to restore the seats in my '73. The quality is so much better than the stock vinyl that I wondered if MA had accidently sent the leather ones. They really are VERY nice...

this is beyond me.
Easy now... He is in Northern Minnesota. I used to live in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area. It could take days on snowshoes to get a new filter. His answer is culturally correct.

Rear hatch ledge rot?
The part of Nevada/California you are talking about gets snow and uses salt/sand on the roads. This is high country, in the Sierra Nevada mountains between Reno and Sacramento very close to Lake Tahoe.

what is the correct hood for 75 280z
Just for anyone doing a search who is looking for this information, the vented hood began with the 1977 model year. All will interchange...

Help Fund the Datsun Museum and Get Something Really Cool for Your Donation!
Now that the bidding is over I want to thank BobC for his hard work and congratulate myself for being the winner of the Mr. K autographed 240Z glove box door. I will probably actually put it on my car as I think these cars need to be driven... When I saw this thread I instantly knew that the autograph was authentic as I watched Mr. K autograph one of the numbered edition 300ZX cars at Surfside about 10 years back. I thought it looked pretty cool. I think there was only one other bidder which is sad... 4 of the 7 bids were mine trying to find the reserve. The last bid was mine again to put it to bed with less than a minute left in the auction. Bob when you get that shipping price together let me know. Or I could just send you the auction price now and the shipping when you get the rechromed emblem. I usually pay within moments of auction end... I have a really old Datsun hood emblem which I don't know what it came from. Perhaps I could donate that to the museum cause. I will take a picture of it and post it here...

Be safe out there...
Hey! That's my wife! She thanks you for the compliment though...

Be safe out there...
Obviously from my screenname you might gather that I am an autocrosser. My own children were raised just as your father raised you. My 10 year old is being raised as your father raised you... There is a place for this. There is talent that needs to be developed. There are support people that need to be in place. I am glad my kids learned to autocross and do track days with me. They have skills they can use on the street. But most of those skills don't involve the pedal on the right... This is sad. Two families torn up and twisted because of stupidity and testosterone possibly even alcohol.

Be safe out there...
These pictures come from a Seattle Area paper. Yesterday, a 25 Year old driving a 350Z doing well over 100 according to witnesses. Skidded, turned sideways, hit a curb and flew through a wrought iron fence and 85 feet through the air into the yard of a house. The gas tank ruptured as it went over the curb and the car was on fire as it flew through the air. Both the driver and passenger were burned beyond recognition... First thumbnail is the house. It wasn't hit but as you can see the fire was pretty intense. Second thumbnail is the mangled wrought iron fence at a clinic 85 feet from the house. Third is the curb next to the fence. See the scrape marks from the bottom of the car?

Save S30-0002
In the Porsche world a prototype 914 was found in the Mojave desert. It was stolen from the guy who owned it by guys who knew what it was and sold to freind of mine. He got into a bit of trouble as he ignored police attempts to get a hold of him. The big thing about it and it was Chassis number 4 by the way, was that lots of things were different from the production cars. The turn signal lenses were one off as were many other things. The car was rusted as can be but my freind kept it and even wrote an artical about it for Excellence Magazine. The point is that it would be nearly impossible and prohibitively expensive to restore the car unless it uses the parts that were ultimately production. The car is however, an interesting museum car. My freind did jail time for possession of stolen property which ultimately was expunged. In case you're interested.

Save S30-0002
Agreed. The extreme low number of the chassis overrides any need to do a meticulous restoration that would have it in perfect condition. Just bringing it back to daily driver shape would still have it one of the most interesting Datsun cars in a museum. Especially if you can track some of the history of ownership and interview and document people's memories of the car.

Sacramento Area Munch and Bench Race
Jon, You know what they say! If it was easy,... I think if I go back again it will be for a welding class or a paint and body class...:squareeye I actually got two Masters and the PhD since then... My '73 will be just as nice. I have an entirely new interior from MSA and CDM sitting in the garage. The paint is done and only the mirrors need to be put on. The engine is a strong 2.4 with an E31 head done by Rebello... It feels strong but I will probably pull it apart and rebuild it just to see what I have. While I am working on it, I have this to play with...

Sacramento Area Munch and Bench Race
That is a very long story but Jon - you asked... about 5 years ago while I was doing my anesthesia residency I drove the car down to Oakland so some of my colleagues could see it. On the way back home, driving on 680 heading for 80 I see a red Firebird probably mid-90's coming up on me at 100+ MPH 680 is two lane in each direction and I am next to a Camry so he isn't going anywhere. Besides we are in heavy traffic. He comes up behind me and hits the binders and sits just inches off my rear bumper backing off and speeding up like he is trying to intimidate me. Finally, I hear him accelerate and I feel myself starting to spin. He had just nudged my right rear enough to make me light back there and I began to spin the rear toward the driver side. It was such a light nudge that I didn't even hear it. But, when he went by me he hit the right front pretty hard. Then, he veared off and NAILED the Camry in the left rear corner. I spun about 4 times and wound up facing traffic in the inside shoulder. I had gripped my steering wheel so hard I broke it from its center... But, I did see the Camry flying through the air. It landed out in some rice field off the outside of 680. I got out of the car and looked at the car in the field. I called 911 from my cell phone and said to send EMS. I looked up the highway and the Firebird was stopped in the middle of the road, the guy had one leg out the door and his airbag had deployed. He was arrested for DUI at the scene. I was able to drive my car home. I waited 6 weeks for CHP to finish their report and I was amazed that his freakin' insurance company didn't contact me. Finally, I stopped in Fairfield at the CHP office and picked up a copy of the report just as it was finished. His insurance was CAAA. I called information from my cell phone and got connected to the claims department and when I told the woman I had been involved in an accident with their insured on April something or other she said, "wow, he was in another accident that day on the 680 but it was a single car vs: guardrail" I explained to her that it was certainly not a guardrail and that a woman was airlifted out of there to UCD Med Center and she didn't look good. The woman said she would have a supervisor call me back. The supervisor checked my facts, CHP report number and such and had CHP fax her a copy then called me back. She said that they would "take care of me." The next day a woman called and offered me $1500 for the car. Luckily, I had it insured for $12,000. They called in an independent appraiser who valued it at $14,000. They offered me the 12K and I said, Ahh no... Your own appraiser said 14K so I will keep the car and we will go with your numbers. They took $700 for "salvage value" and I sold pretty much all the rest. Although, I still have a bunch of parts in boxes... I was so burned out after doing all that work and having it destroyed in an instant that I went to Porsche's and swore I would never have another Z. Then, I found a one owner '73 with just about every Nissan Motorsport part installed or in a box and here I am back with you ugly mugs...

Hagerty Ins. ?
My wife is about to become an agent representing them. She will probably do a banner ad or something if that is available. I insure 2 Porsche's and a 240Z with them and I also could not be more pleased. There is no argument over what I say it is worth and I always get prompt answers to questions. Good solid advice. My wife will be a broker for them soon... That is her in that avatar...

Sacramento Area Munch and Bench Race
Oh!!! That stung! Today as I was leaving the driveway at 9:55am to go to a get-together I saw a very nice red 240Z go past my house and turn into the Fair Oaks Post Office parking lot... Anyone want to identify themselves? Z anything is welcome! I will be driving my Carrera and most Porsche cars are going to be 914's... Very low key. Just a bunch of car guys eating carbs and drinking coffee.

which carb is for me
I am about to put a set of round tops on the classifieds here complete with the air cleaner manifolds and carbs for $150.00 I would think any four barrel set up would pool the fuel in the manifold. Not good.

Mat, Thanks, I don't really know my way around the site yet so I didn't know about the regional thing. Did I have the date wrong? Saturday is actually the 28th... Anyway, y'all come on down... Some Porsche friends will be there too. Let's see if we can outnumber them!
