  1. And I can see at least 4 other Z's in this guy's garage. And he mentions 'Carl Beck' by name. Is this guy a member here?
  2. Check it out, the first of 3,000 10th anniversary ZX's on ebay for $35,000 (reserve not met). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-DATSUN-280ZX-BLACK-GOLD-1-AE-1-052-MILES_W0QQitemZ300336163505QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item45ed6e2ab1&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245#v4-35 Not only is it the first, it's cherry with only 1,052 miles on the clock! Autoblog has a nice little write up about the Black Gold 280's and their associations, pretty funny.
  3. Working all weekend, otherwise I'd definitely be there Dave.

There's a thread from a few days back about this. 20+ posts or so on it.

Just spotted one. 'The Cannonball Run' - After the Chevelle crashes into the pool, a Z can be seen through the wood fence when the police car drives by. It's white w/black louvers. I believe it's a 280 but can't be sure.
  6. Yesterday's Top Gear involved another of TG's famous "Cheap Car Challenges" in which the presenters participated in a classic car road rally. Well, a rally prepped 240 appears at least 3 times in the shows final twenty minutes! At about the 44:08 minute mark a close-up of a series 2 quarter panel is shown as the Z starts out on the next leg of the course. Later, when the rally moves to a closed race circuit, the Z appears again. This time it's at the end of a row of cars outside the track. About 54:43 into the episode. At 54:47 we get the best view yet, as the car is driven directly in front of the camera. For anyone that wants to check out last night's episode, here is the torrent link: http://www.mininova.org/tor/2798824
  7. That's some nice equipment you have (in the pictures). And a sounds like nice collection of Z's.
  8. Well it's not something I would tackle, but go for it if you think you can. Even trying is better than just letting it waste away.
  9. For $500, I'd do it. Sounds like there's at least a good deal more than that in parts. It's not too picked over, right?

    Welcome, post pictures!

The kit comes in half a dozen or so pieces. The welds he's referring to are where the pipe meets the mufflers and the exhaust tips as well as the y-pipe. I've got an install thread similar to this from when I did MSA Twice Pipes and 3-2 coated headers. Personally, I was dissappointed that the pipes come out the rear horizontal and not vertical like the old school twice pipes.

I followed your posts about the car on the other web forum a while back. Good to know you're still working on it. And definitely go with the wing nuts!
  13. If I weren't mildly entertained by grammar errors and incoherence, I'd be reaching for the 'Ignore' feature right now.

I'm second the S&H shenanigans (well technically I seventh it). I bought a pair of keys that he advertised as period correct (I later learned they weren't). I got them for $20 and he charged $20 more to ship. A FRIGGIN' PAIR OF KEYS! I will never buy from him again.
  15. Haha, check out the recent thread on this car in the 'eBay discussions' section. That seller is a joke! Here's the link:"Totally Restored" 72 on ebay
  16. I'm assuming the Abarth you refer to is the famous tuning firm noted for racing Fiats (and now wholly owned by Fiat)?

I think the R390 GT1 is appropriate for the list. It was the first 'supercar' that popped into my head when I saw the title of this thread. I'm 22 years old and can vividly remember when I first heard of the R390. It was a bright/deep blue picture taking up most of a magazine cover (C&D I believe) with the title "$1 Million Nissan" or something to that effect. It was 1997, I was 10 and I was in love. I think that was the first time I'd considered that someone would pay a million dollars for a car (they were supposed to sell a few examples, but didn't get around to it). I'm glad to see it on the list. Like I said, reading the thread title, 'R390 GT1' immediately popped into my head. BTW, I love the Z but it's not a supercar. Neither are a couple of other list choices. Either way, it's a nice list of some great asian metal.
  18. You can definitely use an electric fan on the front side of the radiator as a 'pusher' and have it stay on for a period of time after the car is shut-off, or with the flip of a switch. I've seen it and read about it being done. However I don't have the know-how to do it. It's likely someone on here or another forum could tell you. Another option would be an electric water pump, but it would be considerably more expensive.

I also got my 70 FSM from Banzai. Very happy w/it.
  20. While I lament the badge engineering done with the new GTO, I totally dig that car. I wish that instead of just putting a Pontiac badge on a Holden Monaro, they had massaged the sheet metal and shown some GTO heritage. That being said, the new GTO is definitely a modern day sleeper. And I looove sleepers. If I were you, I'd go for one of the newer ones, where they bumped the hp from 350 up to 400 (I believe). But I'd get rid of that god-awful dual cowl hood and throw an earlier one on there. Then it looks like your average everyday 2-door, but it can blow the doors off just about anything on the road. BTW, badge engineering is not always a bad thing. Worked out great with the Pontiac G8, as it's also a Holden. I really wish they'd throw a Chevy bow tie on that thing and continue making them.
  21. I don't think that I even want to get into this but... just how exactly did Japan ruin the American economy? *pushes soap box forward for you to stand on* And BTW, a Lincoln is a Ford. They're a subsidiary. The Prius has something similar on it's A-pillar. Because of the rake on the front windshield, there is a small triangular window at the base of the A-pillar. Carl, IMHO that car personifies FUGLY. Right up there in Aztek territory.
  22. That's just for looks. on the inside it's like any other windows, with a pillar at the corner.
  23. Thanks guys. Yeah it was apparently just vandalism. Either that or they thought we had something in our cars. He had a cargo cover over his trunk/hatch area and my winshield blocker was up. They broke the windows and unlocked our doors, but didn't take anything or go at the ignition/wires.
  24. I got home from taking 3 final exams today and shortly thereafter there was a knock on the door. My neighbor Ben said "your car's been broken into. mine too" So here's what I found. But looking on the bright side, nothing was taken. Not my stereo, not my change, not even my bag of chips. And at least it's a nice day and the wind isn't blowing rain in there. I already have a lead on a window that I can hopefully pick up tomorrow. This has never happened to me before. Well, when I was 8 my dads 928 was broken into and my Sega Game Gear was stolen, but it wasn't my car. (Although I wish it was, in addition to the Z).
  25. It's called 'Autoerotic Asphyxiation' and death from it's practice is not uncommon.
