  1. Thanks, i'll try that when i get the valve cover off. Probably this morning. Don't need the new pump but thanks for the offer.
  2. Thanks for the "good reads". several very helpful comments. one of which was making sure that the fuel pump arm is riding on the offset cam lobe and not below it. one of my concerns was whether i had just incorrectly installed it in the block. i'll probably still remove the valve cover just to learn more. Thanks to all. i'll report back when i fix it.
  3. Yes, i've thought about that option. still trying to keep it as original as possible. We'll see .
  4. i totally agree. thanks for your inputs. i'll add to this thread when i figure it out. Soon , i hope.
  5. right, got it. just curious, if i remove the valve cover will i be able to see where the pump arm rests inside the block? Thanks again.
  6. still the original "Denke" ? Thanks
  7. Thanks for the input. i'll try that in the A.M.
  8. when i'm reinstalling my fuel pump after rebuild is there a need to go over or under a cam in the block or do you push it straight in. i'm asking because it's not feeding fuel to the carbs and i don't believe that the pump valves are installed incorrectly. any help is appreciated.
  9. Thanks, zKars yeah I saw some GMB and Delphi items that might work as cannibalization options as well since i'm trying to keep my original unit. I my try that route if the new Datsun parts.com source doesn't work out. Per a Carl Beck mention back in 2017 if you are replacing the whole pump the GMB 550-8040 is compatible with (and a Denki lookalike) the early Zs and runs about 30 to 35 bucks on ebay. in my case, i wanted to keep the unit and just replace the guts.
  10. OK Jim, thanks again. found the parts and ordered. Shipping today. Website even responded on Sunday.
  11. Thanks, JIm. That's a good site that I had missed. they didn't have a rebuild kit under the 240Z category so I checked the 1500, 1600 and 2000 parts. They have a kit that also works for Fairlady but only up to 1970. So, still looking. Many thanks for your post.
  12. yeah, four screws were out for the photo. oops.
  13. I am looking for a rebuild kit for my 1972 Z car mechanical fuel pump. The original equipment model is a Kyosandenki. i am trying to keep the original unit and do not want to go to an electric pump. There are a number of replacement options but i want to rebuild this one. Have checked all the sources i can think of without success so far. Wondering if i'm on a fools errand. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
  14. RE: Z car values, the Jan issue of Classic Motorsports reports that a 1972 Datsun 240Z sold at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas for $23,000 and that "Hagarty says that top examples are now worth north of $60,000. This numbers matching car (referring to the sale above) , resprayed in the original color, brought in more than No. 3 money".

Thanks, 26th Z. I got the door locks back in today. It would be great to stop by and visit her majesty some day. We're not that far away.

I can post pics tomorrow but you are not going to see much. The door is in perfect shape with the glass installed. The S bends at the end of linkage rods that are " difficult to assemble without glass removed" are my problem. Sounds like I may have to remove the glass first. As you know there is not much room to work in that area.

I'm having trouble with re hooking up the linkage to my door locks and inside/outside door handle pulls. Any advice?
  18. I appreciate the advice. I'm off to pick some up.
  19. I'm reinstalling the diamond pattern material in my 72Z after removal for paint. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best adhesive to use or maybe also what to avoid using?

A straightforward question on dashboard installation: Is it any easier to reinstall the dashboard if the windshield is still out. For a couple of reasons I'd like to put the glass in first if I'm not creating any installation problems for myself. Thanks in advance for any relevant tips/thoughts.

My windshield is badly pitted and needs to be replaced. The windshield has a Nissan marking on it. I also have a parts car with a good windshield that has a Carlite etching on it. Does anyone know if the carlite was offered as original or has it got to be a replacement? The weatherstipping around it looks pretty old. Trying to keep the car original. Thanks for any help.
