Yup. 3 speed auto, rebuilt, with the low first gear and 3.54 diff. Definitely need tuning (runs rich). Pickup off the line is not bad tho.

What defines a 240Z a classic?
Maybe we could have a photo contest to get people to take that special picture to show why they reakly like their Z or to illustrate their idea of 'Classic." Not just the typical 1/4-angle, but some something really DIFFERENT. I resist giving suggestions because it would give my secret away.

Not just math and meaning, it's history too. There was a lot of conceit back then, with the Catholic Church considering itself the absolute authority on things scientific and factual. It ended up screwing guys like Gallileo over, so it can protect itself. Not to mention things like the Pope giving all the land rights toland west of (the Atlantic ocean) to the Spanish because he didn'tthink there was anythere there worth conquering, curing sickness by "bleeding" sick people to remove the "bad blood"', burning/killing heretics, ang just general bad treatment to people who were "different." We've come a long way, baby.

Even though there are so many 'missing' years, the point was that you gotta get through #2000 before you can start the next 1000. As I put it, "The first year of the first millenia was #1. Add 2000 to that." It's just numerical, not actual.

What defines a 240Z a classic?
I recently saw a show on Ferraris, in which Mr. DeCadenet said that the 250 GTO is a car that inspired the design of others for many years. I'm sure that club includes the Z-cars, as well as others. What I like about the 250 GTO is its long hood (from the V-12 engine), the curvy front fenders (like a woman?), the snug cockpit ( minimaland all business, for 1 or 2 people in a race), and the short rear deck ( accents & balances the hood). Sleek, sexy curves all over too. Sounds like a 240. Probably the same reason(s) I don't like the boxy, angular ZXes of the 80s.

I would disagree with that. If you lose pressure over the hood, than ram-air systems wouldn't work. Same with the cowl-induction hood scoop, which uses the high-pressure air from the front of the windsheild.

Kudos! You are correct. But darn, I was expecting somebody to say, "DUH!! , it's Jan 1, 2000!" Nope. You gotta have 2000 years pass before you can start the NEXT (third) millienia! Duh... That was an easy one.:disappoin Saturday??

My turn for a question.... What was the first day of the new (current) millenia? thx.

Car Collection Terminology and Standards
I think this is a good place to DISCUSS what happened, or why, and the repercussions of it. Like 26th said, it's not a courtroom, so no judgements should be made. You can make your own judgements. I think it's a good idea to discuss what went on objectively, so maybe certain people will read/hear of it, and learn. Others will read/hear of it and possibly change something to make an improvement in the system to enefit all. Maybe even prevent the samething from happening again.

Voltage regulator question
the Painless Wiring people recommend the GM alternator, and the wiring assembly is set up for it, if you get the right one. All the Hotrod & custom builders I know use the GM alternators- even on Ford Engines. It's not just the one wire. I think you gotta connect 2 wires together, and then the 1 wire goes to the battery. But it was very simple, and I've never heard of one failing. \ Here's a link to the prodecure i'm talking about: http://mightymo.org/Proj_OneWire.html

Do Headlight Covers get Fogged Up?
Enrique, On my 280, there is a plastic splash protector behind the light assembly. I tried squirting some water in there when washing the car, and no water came through. It loks like a big PITA to get off. Mine is all cruddy & briittleand I'll be needing a new one sometime. You might be talking about some other model car. Good point tho.

Voltage regulator question
Gm cars come with the 'single wire alternators.' If I remember right, you just hook up the wire to the (+) post of the battery. No exciter wires or stuff. It's in the JTR book. the conversion article is at: http://www.zcarcreations.com/howto/delcoalt.htm

Do Headlight Covers get Fogged Up?
I was thinking that drain holes would fix the fogging problem. Having a hole in the front edge would force air in there while driving. One in the top rear edge would let air circulate. a drain at the back would let accumulated water drain out, assuming none gets splashed in from the wheels and it has a way to drain to the ground. There should be a way to put some holes in that are less or not noticeable. You might even cover the hole with a Z badge, like the rear wing vents. Just make sure they don't whistle when you go.

Splash pan
What was the purpose of the splash pan? I initially thought it was there to keep water splashed by the tires from hitting ther fan and blowing all over the underhood earea? thx.
-
Splash Pan
!!! More "EXPERTS" huh? I see them here and there, too. One says, it's noot an original part, other says it was (from the first run). I'm glad we can get all 'discussted' about these things here,. because I've seen some arguments break out at the hot rod shows over little Details like that. Preserving the historical part is nice, but it seems some parts of history insist of losing themselves. A CAR IS A CAR IS A CAR IS A CAR. Except that it can be your car.

240z fan shroud and splash pan
Do you have a pic of the splash pan? I read of one for the 280Z, but never saw one. Same thing? I would like to put one on my 280z. Maybe I can incorporate some kind of an air dam? thx.

Do Headlight Covers get Fogged Up?
was just wondering if you get condensation under the headlight covers? If so, there is the potential for it to get on the plastic and mess up the way it projects? thx.

trivia
If you put it that way, I think it's the machine age that really messed up everything. Man was just too immature to put machines to work for him. What i mean is that after there was the steam engine, we immediatedly went to work cutting down & burning the forests to put the engines to work for our "convenience." Then they invented the gasoline engine & cars and airplanes, so we could go take war overseas or wherever to keep our "convenient" way of life going. Airplanes made it easier to spread contageous diseases. Cars made it easier to pollute the air, kill & hurt each other, and cover the ground with rusty old steel car bodies & tires. Not to mention the convenience of buying more STUFF to fill your house (or houses!) up, then go buy a BIGGER house to put it in! There should have been a law that says you got to have all the answers first before you can invent something new. Or a way to recycle new materials. Or a way to clean up your mess. What if "Americans" had stayed with horse & buggy? Or honored all those broken treatries with the American Indians? Now we're "going into space" and I wonder if we're going to mess it up out there. Maybe there are some benevolent beings out there, watching to steer people in the right direction...

Historic Rally Monte Carlo 2004
I'm glad to see a glimpse back at the days of real MANLY race driving (even though they had women!) No power steering, no paddle shifters or a/c, and only AUDI had all-wheel drive! Dirt in your face, and you fealt like to did a full day's work back then.

Thanks for the compliment. When you really get down to things., you can bet that EVERYTRHING HAS A SIMPLE ANSWER. No matter how complex you might think something is, it's really a simple thing or based on a simple thing. Or several simple things. Even computers. You might think that something complex is keeping it from working right, but when you find out the real reason, you :stupid: yourself for not thinking of it before. I've been studying, servicing, programming computers for years. Even on my OWN stuff. Take your Zed electrical system. Got a short? It's simple: something connected + to - without the load! Or maybe something doesn't work right or work at all: no connection (somewhere). Just find the (where). How about the PYRAMIDS?? Think about that a minute. Those guys lived 2500 years ago. Computers? NO! Only simple clay tablets (rich guys had dried leaves). You could say those guys had the mind of todays 4th-graders. If you want to figure out how they built the pyramids, GO ASK A 4TH GRADER! You'd be surprised at how ingenious they are if they want to be. ...albeit they had generations of experience behind them too. :cheeky:
