You can start taking the badges & things off in the carport. Put some tape over the holes, so those don't start rusting too.

I don't believe that explosion junk they were always saying. To actually have an EXPLOSION , as in "BOOM!!" you gotta have just the right amount of vapor with a spark or something to ignite it. The spark part is believeable, because in a collision, there's bound to be metal rubbing, which could cause a spark. The explosion part is the problem. Like I said, a gas tank, even FULL with 15 gallons, just won't explode. The worst that could happen is a really big flare up. That means you gotta have only FUMES in the tank. The proof of the lack explosion comes from U.S. Coast Guard films I saw in the 70s where there were explosions of boats being refueled. They had to carefully control the vapor in the bottom of the boat (fuel vapor sinks) to get it to explode. Further science experiments in high school chem class (1980) confirmed the actual proportions and conditions. So the next time you see a car on TV the flips over and everybody says "IT'S GONNA EXPLODE!!" You can laugh because you know it should just catch fire or flare up big at the most. Hollywood provides the BOOM! BTW, Pintos had a V8 option with power steering??

It's exactly 1 AU. Or about 93 million miles.

To calculate the current needs, the low beam wattage is the lower number and the high beem is the sum of both numbers.
  5. TomoHawk posted a post in a topic in Electrical
Can somebody explain theheadlight wattage ratings? I see stuff like 50/55 all the time, and I assume those are Watts, but which number means what? thx.

Definitely creative answers, Will. The tomato IS a fruit- it's related to the watermelon. Mathematically, the largest 3-digit number is 9^9^9, which has a magnitude of about 10^77! --------------------------- War of 1812 ? was from 1812 - 1814

Now rthat I think o fit,"ZZ" top music has a special relation to our cars "Z-cars" Anybody planning a ZZ-top- inspired paint job?
  8. I have a mysterious wire on my car too. I should chase it down this summer when my nerves settle down (too anxious to get my POWER STEERING working) Electrical stuff is next on the list because it won't cost a lot, but time.

Where exactly is that ground strap ap the back of the engine? thx.

I got a couple more easy ones: What's the largest 3-digit number? What food group does the tomato belong?
  11. I'm glad you got a "charge" out of it. Remember to document what appened. See if you can locate the spot on a wiring diagram for the next guy wioth the same problem. I even have a notebook with all the different circuits with colors, connector types, etc. drawn in it, when I work on that circuit.

In an airplane.... How does the power from the engine get to the wheels??? DYNOs: there are different types:; some power a pump filled with oil or water, some spin a really heavy flywheel, in r/c powerboats (gasoline) we use an airplane propeller! ( not for horespower, just to compare between runs, for carb tuning.) for BHP, you try to stall the engine, like I said, in other types (pump) you measure the rpm& RPM to pump the water a certain amount. For the flywheel, you measure the time it takes to spin the flywheel to a certain RPM. I think this is the type you use with your car (rear wheel turning the drum/flywheel). There might be other kinds of dynos.

Now do clean all the rest of the connectors, and somehow miraculously cure the wires of corrosion from the inside. Then tell me how.

Do you know how "BHP" horsepower is measured? If I remember right, you run the engine way up in RPM, then find out how much force it takes to stop (stall) the engine) Something like that. See if your dealer knows that? Maybe I'll go talk to my local dealer... I love to dress in a sport jacket, then go to a luxury dealer and tell him I wanna buy a car for my mom....

You musta got that from some "expert". IHP is Injected HP? CHP is Carbed HP? THP is Turbo HP? What!!?? Do you actually think that he doesn't know the REAL facts?? Like he's going to tell you something wrong to turn you off from buying a car? Of COURSE he'll tell you what you WANT to hear! Of course, you will have to buy the BHP (Big Horsepower) accesories! 110 octane gas for 30 more HP too! Your dealer is also the MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE car expert in the area! He knows your car and every other car better than you or the engineers do! They ARE good at B.S-ing tho. I hope no car salesmen are here....

All I know is there are 746 watts per horsepower. 150 HP x 746 Watts /1000=112 kW

You should read the specs on your alternator when you find the part #. Like an engine, it has a "power band" where it puts out the best, so you would want the pulleys be the right diameter(s) to keep the alternator spinning in that RPM range. Keep in mind the kind of driving you do for pulley selection (street "stop-n-go", highway, racing). my $.0002.... oops- $.02

Why not just increase your idle RPM? It looks like the voltage you measured was ground, which should be zero, but a DMM will show a few mV. Touch the black prode to the engine and the red one to the battery + terminal, then fusible link, etc., to trace the power down to the lamps. You'll see where the resistance is and get the idea that everybody talks about. Try measuring the wire that sends the (+12 Volts) to the lamps at the lamp connector. Not sure what color it is on your car. Allways have a good wiring diagram, a test light, multimeter, etc. I even have a 12volt buzzer to check stuff I can't reach.

  20. a ball-bearing is round and won't wear out fast.
  21. I was going to suggest cementing a ball-bearing into a hole at the desired position.

We started out trying to get some songs together to accompany the excitement and joy one gets while driving ones Zed. Whether your hair is on fire or not. Until now, all the suggestions have had much energy and excitement. While you can't just omit a band in general, you have to admit that just about every one has songs the are better and worse fits to out goal. Take Styx as an examnple. "Blue Collar Man" would fit out goal, while "Babe" ouldn't. (Referring to the 'road-racing' theme). It might be better to fit the latter song into a 'cool-down' list.'

good songs, but for some reason, I just couldn't see myself listening to those while going 90 MPH down the highway... singing Songs like: "Hold the Line. ..I wasn't breaking in time"

I would use Toto or Carpenters if you wanted to get somewhere with a chick/girl/lady. Or maybe if you were depressed and wanted to depress yourself enough to drive off a cliff. Journey and Asia have a few snappy songs that girls like and guys will tolerate.
