You'd think that the a few people at ZCCA had it marked on their calendars to renew to domain name... BTW- what's BIN?

Yeah, I noticed that the zcca.org web site is 'gone.' Polished ZX 6-spoke? I have those on my 280Z, and I would never polish the spokes; just sand the machining grooves out. Maybe 1000 grit at the finest. I painted the insets on the spokes too.
  3. How can the belt be glazed? It's a new belt.
  4. That's another possibility I thought of- Maybe the fan clutch? If it w wasn't free-wheeling well enough, a quick jab of throrrle could cause the fan to slip, with the noise meaning it was dry inside. I've coolant in there, and it should be properly mixed. But I'm still going to geet it flushed (bi-annual maintenence on that.) I'm headed over to the service place that installed my alternator to have them look at the belt. But first I'll look into the Haynes book to see what the tension should be like. "Tight" like as in the usual for a domestic car doesn't seem right to me. thx.
  5. That's the only thing I could think of. There is a new alternator & belt, so maybe the belt could be either too loose or too tight. What is the correct "tightness?"
  6. Don't think it's the water pump belt. It's a new belt.
  7. When I start the engine, and then give it a pop or two, it sounds like the water pump is screeching? But then if I give it a minute to warm up it will stop screeching. Also, there's no screeching when you drive (at any RPM) and from a start as long as you don't nail the throttle. This is confusing. Ususally the water pump (Chevys only) starts sreeching, and gets worse with time. Any ideas on this? thx

UA, UB, WB, whatever... At least it looks like the movie is going to get finished.
  9. No, it won't be all the same things in the same places, but learning about the basics, and what makes things happen, will help you. Things like the grounding points (mine were different) and the AFM & sensors.

The word is that United Artists gave the go-ahead for the filming to resume. No idea about the release date tho. The movie isn't supposed to be about high-speed car action, but more about the characters. But I don't see how you can make a movie about racecar driver & family without some racing.

The more i think of it, it seems that white people don't notice the white people with the ragged clothes on slumming around at the Astrodome, as much as the black people with the ragged clothes slumming around. You need to keep your focus on what is going on, and not the who- at least until it comes down to just a few people doing the undesireable things. fwiw
  12. Is that rust converter paint there? I'd probaby use that as a temprary coating.

I think that video tells the story true. Those people in New Orleans live a life of poverty. They can't get around ( or out of town) because they don't want to. Even though the Mayor, Governor, and others were SCREAMING at them to get out of town DAYS before the flooding, did they? NO! Their sorry sedentary lifestyle wouldn't let them. And since they are so poor in every way, they will just ask for MORE handouts- free transportation, free housing, free food & clothes, free EVERYTHING. And sincethey didn't get what they "needed" they complained. Being concerned for their own safety and the safety of the kids is good, but to DEMAND the U.S. government do it all for them is just wrong. "IF" anything gets rebuild or repaired in New Orleans, I will guarantee that these very same people will go back to the poor lifestyle of handouts, drunkenness, or whatever backward habits they can lazily fit into. You'd never see that in FL. Maybe they should send over some FL people to whip N.O. back into shape. The residents should all be out there DAILY to help rebuild the city, just like people did 200 years ago. thx

My car has what looks like a "rust-belt undercoating job." It's even got undercoating on the bottom side of the hood. Should I take it off (the hood?) I think if I scrape it with a stick, I can get most of it, then slick it down with some solvent or furniture polish..

And the really confusing thing is that Nissan made a big sell of the 350 by calling it "the next Z!":finger:

I still get the occasional "Nice ZX" comment. But I agree with you that the 350Z owners are more interested in each other or something with "TURBO" painted on the fender or something like that. They always park together at a show/cruise, and spend the whole time looking under their bonnets or the instrument panel! Sometimes I'm tempted to ask them to park with the other 'imports' so the Zs can park together ( with a comment on how a 350Z really isn't a 'Z.') Another thing that's odd is how I'll see some classic American cars on the way to a cruise-in, and I'll toot & wave, but I usually get a look like "what is that? Oh, Not a classic car..." The last time I got a toot specifically aimed at me was last Spring- from a guy in A Subaru WRX! I think it was a guy down the road with a 280Z for sale in the front yard.

I've heard of people using a motor from a washing machine, dishwasher, about anything with an axial shaft.

    Helmet cam?
  19. I always wondered why somebody would design a drain to empty into a closed area like that? It's likethey are depending on bad fitment (or rust holes?) to allow the water to leak through! It should be as easy fix, like Enrique did, but you first gotta get those two bolts from underneath loose!
  20. I recently saw a 280Z at a show with a lower front grille (under the bumper.) I looked in the microfiche, and I don't see any there. Is there some explanation, like only certain ones got a lower grille? thx

I wouldn't go past using the wire wheen on the inside of the intake. I'd use the Dremel for small parts, and it's probably good for getting nick out of your rims and stuff like that, but I would prefer something bigger for large pieces of sheetmetal or the valve cover, etc.

I only havethe one driver's side apaet so far. I haven't done the pass side because it's a more drastic alteration. thx See pic:

What are you guys using for polishing stuff. I think you can get a small polishing wheel at Sears, but what's a good motor to use? Probably something small, like a drill but I don't have any. I've been using a Dremel, but the wheel is too small for things like heat shields, and takes for ever. How many RPM is 'right?' I would make mine a benchtop mount, but it has to be detachable. Not too much bench room, but I can put it on a shelf. Any tips or pics? thx

The bottom-inside corner of the stock sun visor hits the mirror, so I took the wire frame out, and shaped it to fit. Just needs recovering. If the fender covers could be made easily ( old-lady club?) then I think we could even add a few to the CZCC stores.

Only the one upholstery shop within a 30 min drive. No fabricators either- they all moved to CA...
