  1. My 280Z was the same color originally, ( I think so, because the number rubbed off the decal) then the PO painted it a corvette color, "Teal Green" ehatever that is, but I can't find it on any color charts. I don't think the painter bothered to sand the car before painting either (my magnets pull big flakes of paint off. ) Nice car tho.
  2. Those things wouldn't last one winter on the streets in Cleveland, OH. :tapemouth
  3. I did finally build myself a de-rusting setup, and it really works! I used a steel bolt as the anode, but I didn't have any copper wire for the connections. I put it all in an empty 1 gal windsheild washer fluid bottle which had the top half cut off & some notches for a cross-support. I found a 12V power adapter to use for the power supply, and hooked it all up to de-rust some heater hose holders. The 150mA power dapter was enough to do the small part. The only thing I had a problem with was the black stuff left on the part after de-rusting. What have others done to remove the black stuff and get the part shiney- or clean- looking? thxZ

For bracket drag racing, How are you to determine what your dial-in should be? Do you get a chance to go down the track before racing begins? thxZ

Use the standard method for figuring MPG: 1. fill the tank, and mark down the starting odometer reading 2. drive at least 1/2 tank 3. fill the tank again, and mark down the ending odometer reading calculate the difference in miles, and divide by the gas to fill the tank read this: wikiHow page
  6. What are you looking at wit hthe borescope? just the piston-tops?
  7. Isn't that pretty much the same a SeaFoam? How can you tell things are decarbonized Also, do think it would hgurt if you de-carbonized twice or twice in one summer (like once a month)? thxZ

I notice a raw fuel smell in the exhaust on my 280Z, and after checking all kinds of things, it ended up being a broken conductor in a spark plug wire! I replaced that wire and now there's no fuel smell, the engine idles more smoothly, the fuel gauge moves slower, and I'll figure out the MPG later. thxZ
  9. I think the PO ( a "z car restoration specialist") used heater hose, so what I put on in 2006 was fuel-proof hose from NAPA.
  10. Isn't the local police "cracking down" on speeders? I even read (I think it was here) that they were pulling over just about all the cycles... thxZ
  11. I was going to mention that when I got my car, the hose on the valve cover was a plain hose. I can't think of a reason to fit one in, either.

Thanks. Those muscle-brain guys are peculiar, anyway. How would they know what's right on my car? One guy told me my carburetor was missing! (It's sopposed to be on top, between those two cylinder heads, and half your spark plug wires are missing...) I don't know if he noticed that my hood opened up on the wrong end. thxZ

Maybe I'll just bondo the gap closed :lick: then grind a very precise 2mm cap with a mototool? (j/k) The only other thing I can think of would be to raise the door just a hair. thxZ

Oops, my bad, as they say. I didn't see the rules for 'Quick four' and 'Bracket classes' which allow all the usual engines. The 4 cyl. only class was for front-wheel drive imports.

I read about this on another Z car related website: The only problem is that I don't think your Z car would qualify. But that's OK with me because my Datsun isn't an "Import!" http://www.importfaceoff.net/ thxZ
  16. I feel for that guy. Also, I have a friend whos name is FORD (or doesn't most everyone?), should he quit being a machinist or change his name?

I have noticed that the door gap on S30 cars isn't exactly even, or the same all the way around. The front & rear gaps are, or can be, the same ( about 3mm) but the gap at the top-front corner ( where the mirror is) seems to be noticeably bigger. Is that correct? I have had a few musclecar guys tell me I need to adjust the door gaps, but after I told them what I have is normal, I get some crazy looks, and show judges (at non-z car shows) say the same, and since you can't tell the judges what's what, so I get hammered point-wise. I can get a picture. thxZ
  18. I have my motor out & apart right now. I want to give itto a restoration guy for new brushes & such. Do you think it might be possible to just swap the motor can & armature for a newer one?
  19. I once met Mr. Fujiwara of Fuji Heavy Industries. I don't suppose he or Fuji Heavy Industry is in there somewhere too? thxZ
  20. Alan, I did exactly get what bob and moompup were talking about.
  21. Talk about name-changes... Shall we also talk about John (Cougar) Mellencamp? Or Prince Rogers Nelson?
  22. Do you mean like fill in the blank? D__TS__N :paranoid:
  23. I got ya, moonpup, I put a card in the windows that says in big letts, "1978 Datsun 280 Zed" and people will STILL ask me what kind of car it is! But then again, one guy yesterday called it "a rare King Cobra" whatever that is; I think he was comparing it to the Mustang II.

    Try one from ground level!
  25. Last summer I overheard one kid ask his friend to read the name of the car, because "you know I can't read" which is a very sad thing in this country.
