After you take the door panel off, you are left with the panel fasteners still in the door. Is there a tool to remove the button-part that goes in the keyhole slots? A screwdriver breaks the buttons, so a proper tool is a better alternative than buying more fasteners. thxZ

There is NO mention of a remote trigger. It says "remote starter" and after showing this (I printed it) to several mechanics and a couple other auto people, that is what each has said. Things needed to be more clear. Thanks hogie for getting back on-topic.

I sent this topic to an auto mechanic friend, and he said the same thing I said; one of the wireless remotes. I told him the OP was asking about the switch you hook up to the starter, and he told me it wasn't that obvious.

The OP's question was too vague or just not properly defined.

Why a remote starter?? Instead of people seeing an empty car starting by itself, I'd rather have people see me in the car smiling as it turns over with a little soot out the tailpipe, maybe.

That and a couple new door locks will make for a perfect start to the car-cruise season! thxZ
  7. )The DeOxit products (D-5 and D-100) are made specifically to remove the oxidation and lubricate electrical contacts, and work better than WD-40. WD-40 was designed to displace water.

I had a shop make up some battery cables a couple years ago. On one, the post connector cracked, and on the other, the square bolt head spun. The odd thing about the battery is that I went to NTB to get one, and the one the guy brough to the counter was obviously too small! WTH?

Good to see you back in action, man. It'll be one heck of an exhale, after unloading all those documents, I'll bet.
  10. The exhaust guy put the glasspack on my car backward so it doesn't make so much backpressure. the engine is happy with that.
  11. Silver solder won't work? It's fairly hard. I was thinking of filling the entire thing and filing out the center to the right shape. Maybe you could just solder up the one corner.
  12. My locks had E-clips on them.

How do you think a 78 would look with some kind of vinyl on the transmission tunnel? Maybe even the hatch area? I like the idea of being able to clean it with a wet rag instead of a vacuum cleaner. I'd still use carpet for the floors in front of the seats. thxZ

Doesn't the power to the ECU and injectors go through the green fusible links?
  15. Does the mirror housing move, or the mirror? I'm constantly re-adjusting the mirrors when people bump it or after the cover comes off. thxZ

I was thinking more of a round cardboard template that will just fit into the wheel that's on there. Just take that to the JY to try it in wheels. No tape measure is needed, and it's very quick; either go- or no-go.

Most of it is actually real stuff that the cast did. the exact amount is something the cast members can't say, and they like having a little mystery about it. Sometimes they're directed to do certain things in general, but that's it. It's not as scripted as an actor's part in a movie. It's heavily edited, but they start with miles of 'film.'

Well, Season 3 of the Bullrun show has been on for 5 weeks now, and basically it's the same as before. The teams start the day's driving, go through a couple checkpoints and to the finish. This year has an additional feature of an 'immunity' card (which is actually a golden wrench) so you will not be in the leg's elimination challenge. The two cars with the largest elapsed times are put into the elimination challenge, along with another that the day's winner picks. If you have immunity, your safe until the next leg, and three teams compete with the loser going home. There are also live chats, both text and video, that you can get into, during the airing of each show. The show has a forum for discussions, as well as a medium for auditioning your team so the shows casting people will pick you for the next show. You could say the forum is no better than what people here would say about zcar.com. It's entirely rumor- or hormone- driven, and if you can't tout your car as having 800+ horsepower, or brand-X engine management system, or a top speed of 100+ MPH, the kiddies there will just talk their kiddie stuff. "Responsible driving" or a "classic sportscar" has no meaning to them, unless you drive it via a laptop computer... One person even got angry because he insists my 280Z has a carburettor, because I won't share the programming of the "chip" in my ECU, or even disclose the brand of it. The kiddies make it difficult for you to share a compliment with the cast members, who are genuinely decent people, who know the value of vigorous, honest competition... thxZ
  19. Do you have ant references (link) you can share for a glossary example?thxZ

Coverage listings don't seem to be directly listed or searchable, and I didn't find anything on this year's (2010) rally. It's probably because the Speed Channel Network is mostly Nas car, and other "popular" stuff. Most of it is even highlights from last year! The most relevant TV program listing: http://www.speedtv.com/programs/targa-newfoundland/ There is nothing on this year's Monaco rally outside of Europe. You'd think that it would be significant enough to put on a 30- minute show at 3am maybe?
  21. Has anyone done any corrosion- or salt-spray testing? The plating should hold up for a while, but how long? I'm plating especially the parts that are getting rusty, not just the ones that have lost the original plating. Maybe the Caswell people have some information on this...

How did your solution work out for the long run? I'd like to put the doors back together before the car comes out of the barn...Do you have a photo of the finished lock? Also, is the new key anything like the Datsun key? I'd like to stay with the one key, but I could probably attach the door key to the ignition key so you don't have to go fumbling for keys twice to start the car. :classic: thxZ

Do the eyeball vents pop out of the 78 too, or is that just a 240Z thing? It sounds like a coat hanger would make a good eyeball-puller thxZ

That epoxy-coated one looks nice& shiny Cygnus If you can disassemble the eyeballs, then it should be better for painting or coating.

Anybody keeping up on the rally newfoundland? Speed TV has highlights about every week in March.
