Miami305 - It may help for you to elaborate on your budget a little more than you are. Tell us about your Dads car back in the day. Maybe somebody has the same color - styling - wheels and so forth for sale. Do you want to spend $2000 or $20,000? Good information in = good information out:)
  2. Welcome - she looks great!

Welcome - did somebody say "twisty's"!!

I think it will take a little more than a muffler system to reproduce the sound of the above car - that engine bay is loaded with a lot of engine - carbs - headers - enlarged pistons - over bored walls - did I say a lot of air....oh yea - there was a muffler system as well. I would have to say most of the exhaust note was from the massive amount of air produced by those "triple carbs"! It did sound great though but expensive to re-produce.

I guess you can tell the Ansen Slots were my pick on my extensive refresh - info can be found in the "garage". Best of luck with your search - wheels are much like women - so many out there but you gotta find the one for you!
  6. Call Dave Rebello at Rebello Racing - he can get a dish piston and machine it flat if needed.

Try Roger at The Z Barn in Maryville Tenn. I had to find a donor car for mine when I did my refresh. Gotta have the clips for the rear panel! Any salvage yards around you that may have a few old cars for parts??
  8. Rob- The absolute best item you can buy for your Z car is................a Nissan Parts Catalog - be sure to buy one after your model year was built (but not too far after). I bought mine from Saad Toman from Kuwait off ebay (I also bought a set of NISSAN keys from him that were dead on). Once you have the parts catalog make friends with your local NISSAN dealers parts manager. I get all my parts at body shop discounts and it's amazing how many parts are still being made (of course many are not as well). The mark up on some of these parts on ebay are insane! If I order my parts from my local Nissan dealer on a Monday I have them before Friday and there is no freight charge at all - a huge savings! Naturally I have to supply the part numbers...............best of luck with your search!

Chris- Sorry to catch the tail end of this conversation but if you have not installed new plugs (I have seen the word clean or cleaned a lot) I would trash the the plugs that you have "used" and go only with new ones. Once a plug is fouled I trash mine - a lot of guys will try to salvage them and clean the tips and so forth but it really does not pay off in the long run and the performance of your engine. So, with all the advise above, new NKG plugs, new plug wires - you should be off to the races....best of luck with your project!

I was just in Smithfield last month. Had a field trip at the Smithfield Farm and facility - airstrip - four wheelers - a little hunting. Seemed like a great town with a lot of hard working folks. Best of luck with your new group!
  11. Damn Salt!! I've got some of the best twisty's in the nation. Our roads have so much crap on them - salt residue - grit (all that stuff to give you traction in the snow)- it is so built up it is hard to tell what lane you are in - and now we are due for some warm weather but no rain to wash all this off. I do agree with the cold air - these engines do like it!!

I feel the values on two of the cars that I own (that are included on the listing) are dead on - the values are correct and also to the dollar amount that I have both of my cars insured for through Hagerty's. I am sure that most of the folks out that that have put thousands of dollars in their car(s) want to protect their money - I'm not calling it an investment due to the fact we really don't care if we sell our cars to make money - we are putting money into the car for emotional reasons (but want to make sure if it is stolen - crashed - or whatever) our money is protected. For that reason the value is set and recommended by Hagerty. As I keep putting money into my car (last year a refreshed engine bay - Rebello Racing Cam and Head - rebuilt bottom engine - rebored - 240 rods - flat top pistons and so forth) I will increase my agreed value with Hagerty's to make sure my money is protect with some type of insurance agreement. I am aware that the car value is what it is and it is only worth that much money to me, but........my money is protected and I'm having fun in the process just like Guy!!
  13. Scott - Welcome. My first taste of Z fever was in 1978 with a white '73. I've had the fever in my blood for a few decades as well! Much like you, after many of the different styles of Datsun's and Nissan's, I had tome come back to be basic's as well. This is a great site with a bunch of great guys that all share the passion of Datsun Z ownership! Almost any topic you can think of has been discussed and some great successful resolutions that can make your current Z as good or better than when it rolled off the factory floor 40 years ago. Best of luck with your current project and get some of those pictures posted - just like Gary said "past and present"!!

I've been to Rogers place a couple of times now - I live 3 hours away. It is very impressive. He has several storage trailers and everything (or at least most everything) is slotted and binned so he can get to it easily. Roger is a great guy - as honest as the day is long. If you are going to deal with him you must be on his time - if you are in an immediate hurry and biting at the bit to get a part you may want to look for another alternative or set an appointment and make the drive

Rob- Welcome and good luck on your search!
  16. Research each parking light one by one until you find the short. It's the fastest and best way to find it. Process of elimination.

Thanks for sharing. It would be nice if we did have logo'd items that we could purchase and let Mike pickup some extra coins - I know I would buy a logo'd shirt for car show season to support our group.

George - Don't forget passing an emmissions test - I do not know t in Calif how all that works but it could be an issue with a FI car - say with a '71 or '72 and you may be safe with carbs (you will need to find out) - discuss with your dad and get his opinion on that before you finalize - if a car does not pass your emissions test you may own it and can't put it on the road!
  20. Why not Hagerty?
  21. I agree with the plug reading - it it one of the tell all's that our cars will let us know - tune in those carbs and the plugs will look great - too lean or rich and the plugs don't lie............remember - the 3 front and 3 back plugs share the two carbs.

George- Be sure to peel back those carpets on both floor boards and inspect for rust there - that area is just as prone for extensive rust damage as under the battery is. Be sure to inspect where the hatch meets the body around the latch - that area is prone for rusting as well. Wheel wells need to be inspected as well - also remove the spare tire (if it has one) and check that area too. I would mainly be looking for somebody else's project that they want to sell to begin another project - Be an educated buyer! If I was going to buy a "Z" here are a few of the things I would be looking for: What engine is in it = L24 / L26 / L28? What carbs are on it = round top / flat top/ triples / FI? What transmission = 4 or 5 speed? What rear end (that's a tough one to tell - use the search engine)? Do the lights work on the dash - and all around the car? Is the dash cracked - dash mat - dash cover? Look at the fuse box and see if there is any meltage? Original paint - or repaint - does the engine bay look correct? Does the car sit good - mash on each of the four corners to test suspension? Has the car had brake upgrades (front and rear)? Tire Wheel combo - is it what you are looking for? At this point most older "Z's" have had some kind of work done to them by the PO's. Take your time and get what you want - You can only expect what you inspect!! Good Luck tomorrow - I hope she is everything you and your father are looking for!
