Hi all, I need a little help. I came across some 44 triple carbs and wanted to know if they would be too much for my stock l28 at the moment? I would really like to use them so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the insight and fair warning.. I saw those engines and it looked like a good deal but looks can be deceiving very deceiving... its one of the reasons i started this post, I wanted to see if it was too good to be true which it probably is considering Datsun-Parts rep

Thats really good to hear... How is the car on the street? or is it? So far Im down to two choices.. the one Arne suggested or the TT's... Ok i found this Ebay Seller Called Techno Toy Tuning... I didnt see that disclaimer ...if this is true that's a way of him being able to weasel his way out of 90% warranty claims considering most z owners work on their own cars... Perhaps his engines are'nt that good then?

Yea i saw that.. im not to far from Riverside myself...it would be nice to find out where he is sourcing these engines from. Since this info is given out after a engine purchase.. can a customer of Datsun-Parts that bought a engine chime in? surly there is at least one person.

For post #1 i didn't know what to expect with a cam swap with stock engine that why i asked, as for the rocker arm issue i came to that conclusion with people's experiences from this forum and others having no problems reusing rockers. I know its always best to replace new with new, but if you can get away with it then why not? If this was a high dollar motor than yea its all gonna be new, but since its a stock motor to get me by for now i dont want to spend to much on it if i don't have to..

I agree with Jon, i have read forum after forum and there is too much miss information and myths it gets ridiculous...from what i see people are too extreme with what to do and don't do if they even know what to do, it makes people like me confused and not sure what end is up, so we make threads to try and clear up the confusion but end up only making a repeat thread. Anyways thanks to you guys and Jon, i now know rocker arms are not a must with a cam swap especially if you using oem parts. A resurface is recommended but not mandatory if currant condition is acceptable. As for the cam choices im going to go with a 490/280 based on your guys experiences. Now all i need to know is what a 490 lift requires...such as do the guides seals need to be shorter etc..

Thanks Jon, i would like to go bigger but im going to save that for the 3.1 stroker...right now i basically want the biggest drop in cam that will work with stock motor and valve train. how would a 460 lift 280 duration cam perform over a stock cam?

I would like to buy a kit but MSA price is now 800..way to much for a mild cam swap...what about reconditioned rockers? any experience with those?

crap ill pass on the new rocker arms..ive heard people get away with using them over and over again anyways. i would like to get a local regrind but i don't know of any that are around here, maybe somebody can chime in on that...so where can i find these lash pads besides MSA?

no i was thinking of a regrind from delta or something...so you think it would be worth my time to throw a cam of that size in? do you know where the best place to buy lash pads and rockers at?

thanks for your reply...the car runs great.. comp is even straight across has no issues at all...just wanted to know if it would be worth my time to install a cam without head work and such. I know some people think if you do a cam its pointless unless head work is done because the cam size is limited.. Anyway would the cam profile i suggested be a good one to go with?

I have a quick question regarding a regrind cam... I currently have a 240z with a stock l28, that has su carbs, headers and exhaust...would i benefit from a cam swap that much? Let say a 460 lift with 280 duration or something around there? Also what can i expect to pay for all the parts for a a swap? I really don't want to go through all the trouble and be disappointed with the results.

Turns out the optima was gasing and has no liquid...i guess the liquid looking residue is from the gas .I think ill just get a refund and buy locally so i can have them bench it prior to purchasing it..
