  1. Wally, Good luck with the restoration, it took me about two years and it's still not perfect (at least in my eyes). Take care,
  2. Hey Mike, Yes the floors did have an issue, however Charlie helped me with that and both floors were redone. Really the only thing the Green Z needs is a good engine detail. For any potential buyers, it's solid but needs some minor attention. Arne......I'm going to jack my own thread, hows the Porsche? I also got a little toy to redo this winter....A 1968 912.
  3. Looks like it didn't meet reserve..... That is truly one of my favorite colors on the Z, and I needed to sell her if I wanted to finish my 70 model. This is the main reason I sold the Green one.....
  4. I was glancing through EBay and saw my old 240Z for sale. Here's a link for anyone interested. The buyer back when I sold it seemed to be a great guy and had a very nice collection of cars, hope he gets his price and had fun with the car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-DATSUN-240-Z-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-GREAT-CONDITION-/150688215225?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2315b7b0b9

+1 on the full dash. I had the 1/2 dash on my 73, just didn't ever look right. However I installed the full cap on my 70 model and it looks great. Here's a photo of each....The full cap is the way to go.
  6. Hey guys, I'm a little late to the thread.....yep, that's my old 240. I sold the car a few years ago, but thats my picture taken in my driveway. Maybe I should be flattered.....
  7. Many thanks to our resident plastic surgeon EScanlon. E brought my broken and chipped radio face plate and map light cover back to life. These were the last two pieces I had left to complete the interior on 797, and wow do they really finish the cars interior appearance. All I need to do now is change out the screws or at least paint them so they look as good as the plastic pieces. Thanks again E. (Here are a few pictures) PS....The radio fitment was temporary for the photo, I'm still working on it.
  8. Thanks for the input, the engine rev's great and had been running perfect. I'll get someone to look into to tuning the carbs and check on the EI. I think I'll do some searching on Pertronix problems. Thanks again.
  9. AS always.......Thank you gentleman for the advice. One day (heck who we kidding) I'll learn to be a better mechanic.......... Loved the too rich comment, my wife would have the same thought. PS.....pulled the choke back, it got worse. Should I attempt to lean these out by small turns on each carb, or just find a mechanic. Wasn't sure if they need to be sync'd after they are leaned. Or if ya'll have a better "shade tree" approach let me know. PSS.....Blue, got rid of the points and upgraded to PerTronix.
  10. Hey Fella's, Took the 240 out today and she was running great for a while, however as the day progressed I noticed that once I hit 4,000 rpm's it wanted to bog down and not give me all she had. Below 4k rpm's it seems fine (although maybe not pulling as strong as it should). Would this be a symptom of being to rich or lean? It ran like this once before and my mechanic said he adjusted the carbs but not sure if he meant he adjusted for lean or rich (and he is long gone). Thanks, Randy
  11. Hey guys, Took the z out today for the longest ride it's ever had, it ran wonderful but being almost out of gas I stopped for 10 gallons before I went home. I noticed fluid on the garage floor and then the dreaded gas smell, I thought maybe it had just overflowed but on closer inspection it is seeping out the sending unit. I dried everything, checked all hoses, clamps, etc then removed the rear tire. After watching the sending unit area I noticed it started to seep. Before I had always just had a few gallons in the tank so it never leaked, but if the fuel is above the sending unit it's leaking. Is there a sealer I could use till I can replace the o-ring. I know they make a marine grade putty, but would it work on gas? Any suggestions, anyone else have this problem. Thanks, Randy
  12. Thanks Steve, Hopefully mine will come back to life......
  13. Gentleman, Thank you, Datsunstore never showed up on my search list. I have not tried the lubricating and grease, will give that a shot this weekend. It's not fried, but only moves the wipers a few inches and then stops. Thanks for the tips and info.
  14. I've read a few wiper motor conversion threads, but does anyone know where you can still get a wiper motor for a 240? Obviously, not new but a used one that works. It seems I looked everywhere, and everything points me to a conversion.
  15. I am, but haven't been over there in a while. I thought I remembered seeing your avatar somewhere else.
  16. Carl, Love the picture. Me and my 17 year old are finishing a refurb on a 1974 914. He and I like to autocross in the spring, summer and fall, nothing too serious, just like competing against ourselves. Here's a photo before and after. Gotta love that Ravenna Green.
  17. Ok, I may have to redo my list as I included the wife's cars as well. (Hey, I bought them....:classic:) esmit208, , never owned a car lot just wasted a lot of money on cars over the last 30 years. I'm 45, and bought my first car at 15.
  18. Thanks for the nice comments, Duffman, Mike is right. It's the standard piece that I just cleanend up. The wheels are 15's and Konigs. Sold the old "Dukes" wheels on craigslist. I wish I could take credit for the carbs but my check book did all the hard work. I still have my original carbs that I will one day polish up and use as an art piece. I started this project October 2008. I had no intention of buyng another 240, but I had stopped by a friends shop who mainly just does British cars and saw this Z sitting off to the side. When I looked through the window and saw number 797 I knew who's car it was as I had seen it at a local show. One day later I wind up owning the car and decide to restore her back. You may have seen this car on ebay back in 2007, The PO was the auction winner and drove down to Louisiana to pick her up. After getting back to Knoxville and driving it around for a year to local shows he took it in for new fuel lines, which is where I saw it. PO plans were to restore as well, but like everything else life happens, and he graciously decided to let me buy it. We still keep in touch, and he's been over to the house to check on the progress. Bonzi Lon, I like that idea........
  19. Ok, I was really bored and decided to make a list of all the cars I have ever owned. Yes, some I'm not too proud of and others I wish I had never sold. This was actually harder than I thought, it's amazing how easy it is to forget about some after so many years. So, put your list together and lets what you have or used to have. Here's mine: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2007 Audi Q7 19??Acura Legend 19??Acura MDX 1998 BMW 740il 2001 BMW 330i 1993 Chevy Lumina 1998 Chevy Tahoe 2008 Chevy Suburban 1970 Datsun 240Z 1970 Datsun 240Z 1971 Datsun 240Z 1972 Datsun 240Z 1973 Datsun 240Z 1975 Datsun 280Z 1981 Datsun 280ZX 1966 Dodge cornet 440 Convertible 1996 Dodge Caravan 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 1983 Ferrari 308 1980 Fiat Spyder 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible 1991 Ford Taurus 1993 Ford Windstar 2004 Ford F-150 1985 Honda Prelude 1988 Honda Accord 2009 Honda Odyssey 2004 Infiniti QX56 2008 Infiniti M35 1970 Jeep CJ5 1972 Jeep CJ5 1974 Jeep CJ5 1980 Jeep CJ7 1988 Jeep Cherokee 1994 Jeep Cherokee 1988 Jeep Wrangler 1996 Jeep Wrangler 1980 Jeep Wagoner 1990 Jeep Wrangler 2004 Land Rover Range Rover 1996 Lexus LS 400 2004 Lexus GX 470 1988 Mazda RX 7 19?? 20. Hey Mike, All the interior came from Les, even the carpet. Since I wasn't doing a concours car I went a little overboard and used Por-15 then some Schutz coating a few weeks later. That's the coating you see in the pictures. I may have added a little weight, but figured it would be worth it if my great, great, great, grandkids ever want to drive the car..........:classic:
  21. Thanks folks, Arne, lets hop in our Z's and start driving......we can meet in the middle. If I could get three weeks to do some touring I would start heading West.
  22. I'm still trying to get the 120+ photo's from the shop, however I had a few of these on my camera. The car still needs some work, as you all know it's the small stuff that is taking forever. I also need to do a really good buffing on the car to make it really shine. This has been a wonderful yet frustrating project, but in the end I'm glad I did it. Hopefully this project will draw to a close in the next two weeks and I can enjoy driving the car for the rest of my life. Mally (Randy)
