Harbor Freight is the stand I have . I wouldint concider one with only 3 legs. The one I have , the two legs are fairly close together but if you are observent you wont have any trouble , just be aware. Gary
  2. Just remove the mech pump and trace the base shape and cut a plate from some aluminum and use a pump gasket to seal the plate and bolt it on. Use short enough bolt so you don't damage anything if the holes are blind. I cant remember if the holes were blind or not. I had some 1/8'' aluminum and used that. When polished it looks professional. Gary
  3. If the diff in question is a R-200 it is possable that the hub has been pulled out slightly . I don't know if the clicking would be from this . The clicking could be from a ujoint or a axel bearing that is going bad. I had a ujoint on a half shaft do the vary thing you a describing . Gary

I am not sure what you are asking. The '73 &74 came from Nissan with two pumps. I tried a RX-7 pump on a stroker with tripples and it supplied them with no problem . I am runnng one elect only on my 280ZX engine with SUs and havent had any trouble . The only reason to run more than one pump that I can see is for redundancy . One single pump will supply more than enough. You can only run up to 5 psi. with carbs.

I have the same set that you have . My hatch was already drilled for the hardware so I found the luvers and installed them. I did like them and because of the thinness of the metal my vision was not impaired at all . The down side is that the metal ones rattle , and there is a center rubber covered part that rests on the glass . It will wear a line in the glass from rubbing . When I redid the my exterior I filled the holes for the henges and the fasteners at the bottom corners and now I cant force my self to redrill in the new paint. There are some brands that are made of ABS and they are quiet , but I have seen them blow off. Gary color me luverless.

Norm12secdude is he turns in he 12s with SUs on pump gas and street tires in his driver '70 240 . send him a PM , he is a great guy and ask him about it. Gary
  9. 28oZ . You can send a PM to phred , He mostlikely can give you an idea of the comp ratio . mlc240z sorry some times we do take it for granted that others can understand this stuff . Yes You are infected . Gary
  10. The 260 pump will do fine by it's self. Have you done the numbers ? since the longer stroke of the L-28 , what compression will you be running ?

I am glad you live there and no where near me and my family. Stright or not others use the road . Think about the others that will pay if you don't grow up and come to your sences. If you want to go fast do it , put your speed where your mouth is, just do it and get it over. It dosnt't impress those with there sences about them . It dosent take any brains to put your foot to the floor and keep it there . If you want to go fast put the car on the track . Maybe I am sensitive because my 19 year old grand son shot and killed him self two weeks ago . And the grief and pain that he left the rest of the family in is horrable. This is a wound that will heal over time but the scar will be for ever. You take out a family or a mother driving down your stright road , think about this . Gary
  12. What are you doing ? If you are going to run carbs, you cannot use a fuel pump that is for injection. Too much pressure . I suppose you could use a pressure relief of some sort but if you just install a pump from a RX-7 Carbed car you will be fine . They put out about 5 psi.

Those engine stands are ok but one thing USE HARDEND BOLTS . With the engine being held by the bell housing there is a LOT of leverage against the bolts . Droping the engine is not a thing you want to do. I my bolts are 10.9s hardness . I used just plane washers , These engine stands are rather narrow so be careful when rolling the engine around the garage .

Dave III , Welcome to the club and yes this is the place. Congrats on the Z . As to the start up, I recommend that first thing to drain the gas tank and to flush it with a little new fuel , just a qt. or so. Disconnect the fuel line at the tank and at the fuel filter up front and blow out the line with compressed air . Replace the fuel filter and reconnect the fuel line . Drain the oil and change the filter before turning the engine over. Drain the coolent and replace with plain water for now. Flush the brake fluid and clutch fluid . Take a vary hard look at the rubber brake lines at each wheel . If these are origional , DONT MESS WITH THEM , REPLACE THEM ALL. Remove the spark plugs and squirt some oil in each plug hole , ATF or marvel mistery oil is good for this . With the plugs out see if you can turn the engine over with a socket wrench on the crank pully. If you can then turn her over a few revolutions to spread the oil around and lube the cylinders. Then with a new battery try and start her up . WATCH CAREFULLY THE OVER FLOWS on the carbs , disconnect the hoses from the top of the float bowls so you can see if they start to over flow due to a stuck float in the carb . Watch this while you are starting the engine and while she is running for the first few min. Pay close attention to the temp gage once she fires up , just in case the thermostat might be stuck closed , common thing. As an aide I use a little starter fluid in the inlet to the air cleaner to help ignite the oil / gas mixture at first. Remember these carb have no accelerater pump so pumping on the gas peddle will not help . Use the choke lever to start and keep her running at first. Hold the RPMs down around 1500 to 2K for a while so that the oil can travel all through the engine. Also what I do is , I use a large sringe and I put in the float bowl about a tablespoon or so , of gas . An old turkey baster will work fine for this . This will help at first start up and will get her going a little untill the fuel pump can supply the carbs. All the best to you and keep us informed on your progress. The brake stuff can wait untill you get her running , but do it BERORE driving . Gary
  17. I have a '73 240 build date 8/73 and yes it is a '73 and it had no relay on for the fuel pump. Careful making definate statements. What year is your Z ?

I held by breath and installed the door seals on my '73 Z . I bought the kit built by Progressive. They went in great and both doors close great . I do need to close them firmly but I dont have to slam them . After all that I have heard about the after market seals I expected the worse. All the seals for he entire car have been top notch and fit vary well. I have no complaints. Gary

Hang in Bill , keep us posted . It looks like Huston dodged the bullet . If this info helps. Gary
  22. For one thing the gasket is for a P-79 head for a NA ZX engine. I recommend that you get the gasket from Motorsport and get the one they have for the headers the heavy duty one. I don't know what combination you have but my headers fit with no problem . However I am running a P-79 head. Did this combo you are working with something new ? the head in the pictures dosn't look like it was just re done. Are you installing a new set of headers from another engine ? Gary

you know , people are in trouble . I am only posting here because if I don't . This thread will die and be forgotten. If you didtn't have a place to sleep tonight that was dry , and you could you hear your loved ones in misery . How would you feel. This is real . Help in any way you can. The Government can not do it and they wont be able . It is up to us to take care of our own . We are so used to being covered when the $^!# hits the fan , that when it does, we expect the ''SOME ONE '' to take care of us . The people of texas are going to take a big HIT . They will need help as well. We are being tested now , are we up to it ??? Gary
