Welcome to the Club . Guys I was in Denver visiting a while back and while there found a vary good Body Shop if anyone is in need. Exotic Bodies They are in Lafayette I am not vary familiar with the surrounding area , so I don't know if any of you are reasonably close. there number is 720 890 0954 I have no connection with these people, I just saw there work and paint and was vary impressed. Gary
  3. On the '73 the factory installed the electric fuel pump to help with the problem of the fuel boiling in the fuel rail. By circulating gas from the tank through the engine mounted pump, that adds heat, and the fuel rail it helped greatly to solve the problem. The flat top carbs didn't help , it was a combination of the two. I have been running only the electric all along. By the way Nissan provided the wiring for the pump back by the gas tank on the '71 on I am not sure about the earlier Zs. The wires are tucked up by the tank and taped with blue tape by the wires that go to the sending unit for your gage. Side note : if your OEM manual pump fails , Nissan still has the rubber diaphragm that is needed to fix the problem. Gary
  4. You said you wanted to keep the Z OEM ! ?? J C Whitney is far from OEM:stupid:
  5. You need to make a little bracket to mount it . I just went to Home Depot and bought a length of steel strap about 1/8'' thick and 1 1/4'' wide and cut a 12'' piece off. put two 90* bends to allow clearance for the moustache bar and bolted it to the flat plate next to the Moustache bar. I used the rubber mountings that came with the pump. I pulled the pump at the bone yard. When I pulled the pump I cut as much wire as I could. I used the RX connections and soldered the wires to the Z wires . Green is the hot and black is the ground. Add a new filter between the pump and the tank. Easy mod. Pump $15.00 at the B Yard and I think the filter was about $6.00. The pump is quiet and puts out about 4 psi. Dough IFyou can find a OEM pump they run right about $135.00. Gary

ohio260, welcome to the Z Club. A 1st class source for a floor pan is Zedd Findings they make the best ones on the market. datsunzparts.com Too bad you live so far away , I have one of there pans for the driver side I am going to sell. They may have the tub for the spare as well. It's good to have you aboard. Gary If you are planning on doing the pan your self. I did mine and took pictures, not a hard project if you are willing to get dirty and are at all mechanical. I did the removal and installation my self, then took the Z to a certified welder to have it welded in. Gary

This is really great. Even to the holes in the floor pan. If the car wasn't setting on a set of blue prints it would look like the real thing. He did a masterful job. Gary

welcome to the Club. You are going to really like the difference in your 260 with the 280 installed. You planing on running the injection or SUs ? Gary
  10. I don't know much about Weber's but it sounds like the float is stuck open on that carb. Try taping the outside of the float chamber with the handle of a screw driver. Has this car been stored for some time? If the Car has not been running for a long while, this might jar it loose. Gary

If the wire from the sending unit is grounded it will peg the needle. So if the wire is shorted out some where this could cause this. However the needle should go back to zero when the ignition key is in the off position. Like MikeW said tap the gage it just might be stuck. Gary
  12. Are you sure it is the springs and not the struts? I have the Euro stage 1 set also and it stiffened my ride just enough that with a set of G-2 struts it is fine for the street. Personally I would not want the ride any stiffer. I may still have the numbers of the spring rates if that would be of help. Carl Beck I am sure has the info. Gary
  13. I am running a R-200 in my '73 and using the 240 half shafts. Going on 4 years now. Mine is not a LSD though. the Maxima caliper Brackets are available at the Nissan Dealer. Gary

Duck and run ! That's a laugh but you better try. Your Z is the only one I have seen with dingle balls around the windows and a '' roach coach '' air horn.

Luke , I am so sorry to hear that you lost your friend. I did also a couple of weeks back. They become so much of the family in short order. Gary
  16. The last weather report showed Sat & Sunday to be sunny. It will snow for sure. Gary I am bringing the Zedd floor pan and some over-riders . Two different ones for the front and one for the rear. I have a 240 front bumper also. Gary

Well Ken welcome to the web site. You dusted off an old thread here. Since '03 much has happened to and with all of us. Once again it was good to read all the posts from way back. We miss some that are no longer with us. But we remember them and draw from there experience through the archives and doing searches for different things. Always good to see the names and read the comments. My Z has been ''finished'', for some time now. Mostly a maintenance thing , unless I am upgrading something. I am 69 now and still live in the Beaverton area. Married and now it has been 48 yrs. Gary
  18. You may find it difficult to find the correct sway bar . It came only on the early 260 and it is curved to allow room for the Diff. The rest of them are straight and will not work. I can take a picture of the mount if you like. send me a PM with your email address. Gary

I am running a F-54 na engine , flat top pistons with a P-79 head milled .030''. This gives me 9.5 to 1 compression. Someone here should be able to tell you how much to mill a P-90 head to arrive at a suitable ratio. At .030 removed you do not have to shim the cam towers. My flat topped motor with the unmilled head was at about 8.5 .
  20. There are a couple that I know of. Makes a truly clean installation. Wolf is one brand , and I cannot think of the name of the other one. One of the two will also manage the injection system and the other is better for a Carburated engine. Contact Paul Rushman at braapz350@hotmail.com He is a engine builder and I have seen both of these on Z engines he has built. They look like the best way to go ,but like many things. They are not cheep. Gary
  21. If you must have a OEM pump , this wont be for you because they look different. However a electric fuel pump from a RX-7 works great. It must be for a carburated engine not injected. I have run these for 8 years in my Z with SUs. They pump 4 psi. $15.00 at the u-pull-it. We have used one on a stroker engine with triples and it supplied those also. Gary do a search there is plenty of info on this topic.

Have you checked with the Nissan Dealer. Since this trim piece is the same for so many years of Z ,they may still carry the part. Otherwise , hit the Bone Yard. A used one can be polished back to new condition.

I also used precision seal kit and they were and are soft and pliable. I did have a installer put in my new windshield . He told me that there are two suppliers of aftermarket seals and that one is stiffer and harder to work with. Precision he said was the better of the two. I don't know about the OEM seals. Gary

Well a F-54 with that head should be a Turbo engine with dished pistons. I thought a P-90a was a hydraulic lifter head. If the P-90a you have is in fact equipped with solid lifters , what is the reason NOT to use this head. Flows better has the right shaped combustion chamber and big valves . Just curious. Gary

Before you start thinking of any up grades you need to make it run. Messing with the carbs ? And that means what? You didn't say, is the engine overheating ? You just said that it is cutting out. If the engine is getting so hot that it is shutting down. It is likely that you have already damaged the engine . You could have the carbs so far out of adjustment that it could cause the engine to stop. There is a Datsun Mechanic in Vancouver Wa. on 99th st. 360 573 7314 Gary
