Hey moonpup, don't forget out illegal friends from South of the border flying around on the Houston highways without insurance, much less a green card!

webdawg1 & MikeW, Thanks for the dimensions and pictures. The two of you have answered my questions with the thoroughness that I knew that I'd get from this forum. I love the beauty of Z cars and the meticulousness of their owners. Thanks again,

Tomo, The only thing that's covering my spare ('75 - full size spare) is the carpet in the rear deck. If I had an old, worn out spare cover I wouldn't need to ask the question in the first place. I owned a '77 back in '87-'89 and an '81 in '89-'91 and I only needed to change a flat once while owning those vehicles. And I've managed to drink away a few memory cells since then. The Z that I have now has only been mine since Christmas and it needs some refreshing.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I can work it out from what you've given me. One question - it's been years (18 long Z-less years) since I had a Z and I think that I recall there being some kind of plastic "L" brackets on the bottom side to keep the cover in place. Am I remembering correctly?

Welcome to Z ownership. I wish you the best of luck on your restoration. My first Z was a 2+2 and therefore they hold a special place in my heart + the longer wheelbase lends a smoother ride and they can still be fast as hell.
  6. OMG!!! It makes you wonder what goes on in between some people's ears. I'd love to talk to the person that could do that to a Z - just to see if they're insane or stupid. ...but that's just my opinion and we know what that's worth.

Does anyone know where a spare tire cover can be purchased - or have a spare one (no pun intended) laying around that they would be willing to part with? Or better yet, can someone post pics and dimensions so that I can simply cut a new one from fiber board. Any diagram/drawing format will be fine with me : Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, MicroStation, PhotoShop, sketch on a napkin, etc... I have a '75 280z and I imagine that the spare tire cover should be the same for all full size spare equipped S30's - I could, however, be wrong about that. Thanks,
  8. Congrats on the purchase. I'm glad that you stuck to your original bid. I've made several purchases on cars and even my house where the item had been on the market for some time but by some coincidence another person also puts in a bid at the same time mine goes in - I believe that this is often just a ploy to get more money out of my wallet. Or maybe I'm just a paranoid tight wad. :paranoid:
  9. On my ES bushings kit I only received 2 of the 4 sleeves needed for the rear outer control arm bushings. I called ES and they sent me the missing sleeves - about 7 working days later.
  10. Miles, Thanks for the input. That's what I thought was going on. I considered trying to "rig" a replacement spring, but if I use too strong of a spring rate I'll just end up creating a new problem - a lock knob that will keep unlocking. I'm going to give this some thought (trial & error & error & error) and I'll keep you guys posted if I find any answers. Probably just going to put in some remote control lock actuators. Terence
  11. Jeremy, I, too, have a problem with my driver's side door lock locking when the door is shut and only opening while either holding the lock knob up from the inside or by holding it up with the key turned in the keyhole from the outside. My question is, have you (or anyone else) found a solution to this yet? I've had the panel off and the problem isn't with any of the controlling rods being misaligned , nor does the problem lie with the key cylinder. It seems that there's a spring missing somewhere that should hold things in the unlocked position until either the door is locked by pushing down the knob or turning the key from the outside.
  12. Thanks for the advice. I'll check with the Z-club here in Houston as well as make a few more inquiries with the classic car insurance companies thanks again
  13. Hi all, I've been a lurker here on the site for about a year and I've been a registered user for a few months. I just purchased a '75 280Z (the one in the avatar) from 'Vegas and I'm having it shipped to me here in the Houston area at the end of the week. 1st generation Z ownership has been a longtime dream of mine since I sold my first car, a '77 280Z 2+2, back in 1989 for an '81 280ZX that I hated (no offence, but it was a luxury car with sport styling.) But I have only one problem...I'm stuck in insurance hell!!! I want to insure for more than the NADA or Kelly Blue Book value. And don't start by telling me to look into Hagerty. I looked and they're fine but I'd like to drive my car once in a while to places other than car shows. I'd like to be able to drive to work every so often, or take the car on the occasional road trip to get the hell out of Houston! Does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure my car for an agreed value and let me drive it (about 5k mi./yr.) too? Thank you, and it's good to be back in such good company. Terence (Terry) Sutton
