Hooker header gasket
What did you do, launder them first to loosen them up? Were they to big, and you had to shrink them in the dryer? Either way, it's good to know there are more options out there for the Z community.

What did your holidays bring your Z?
I got a 240Z! I’m still going over it right now. I don’t know what year it is, nor do I know the VIN because it’s completely disassembled and in a box, so I have some work ahead of me. Right now, since it is in pieces (I hope it’s all there!), I’m thinking of repainting it (probably red-but I’m not sure yet-any suggestions welcome) once the weather permits. Seriously, though- What did I get my Z for Christmas? Nothing major, unfortunately. I dropped the splash pan when I changed my belts, and saw that it was starting to rust. So, I took the opportunity to convert/prime the rust and spray it with rattle can red. Of course, no one but me will ever see it, but I like it and feel better knowing that there is one less area rusting. Pulled the carpet out to track down a leak, and pulled out the passenger seat for fun.

Flying Car
I've been watching that thing develop through the press for some time. I would love to see it work in person, or even better, to own and operate one myself...Until then, I'll have to stick with my Datsun

280z worth $$$
Z more, Z merrier. If you've got the cash, and can spare it, I'd go ahead and pick it up-better you (someone who will care for it/enjoy it) than some schlub who would abuse it. While you are enjoying the quick fix car, using it as your daily driver, you can focus on the details of your indepth restore.

Alternator belt replacement help
There's one of these in Sylva called Smoky Mountain Auto Parts. I've been told that the owner is a great engine builder, but takes a long time to get things done.

Alternator belt replacement help
Well, I decided to take out the fan blade and pulley, as had been suggested, and am thankful for doing so. It was a tight fit getting in there to remove the nuts, but in the longrun it made things much easier, since it allowed me to see everything. Additionally, I couldn't get the alternator to budge on its pivot point, so I ended up coaxing the fan pulley onto its mounts; something I never would have been able to do if the blades were attached. The alternator belt was getting pretty rotted, A/C belt was in good shape (that's the one that I couldn't get at Napa), and the power steering pump belt was starting to develop some serious cracks. Took some time, and I ended up spending more time wiggling under the car in my vain attempts to loosen the Alt, and of course I kept dropping nuts, but all in all, it was a great learning experience. Next project is to find the source of a Nasty Leak I just discovered after a night of rain... Thanks to all for your help.

New Hot Wheels 240Z
Just another reason to move back West...I imagine it's just a matter of time for the solid colored models to show up in the Eastern part of the country. I guess I'll just have to keep going to the toy stores to check

Yes, more questions from the new guy
#1 No idea, never having done it. #2 I remember reading about this some time ago, and the base consensus was that the inner boot needed replacing. http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/z/0027.html #3 I think it would depend on what you need to replace, again, I haven't done it (though I need to). http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/z/0098.html At any rate, good luck.

Postage paid!!!
I once spoke to the Postmaster here about the horrid amount of junk mail I was getting, and asked if there were some way to get my name off the list, or if the Post Office could stop dealing with the Bulk Mailers. Unfortunatly for me, the response was "no" on all counts. Apparently, it's the Bulk Spammy Mailers that are keeping the postal system afloat, or so I was told. Without their accounts, we would be paying far more for postage than we currently are. I do wish, however, that there were a "Do Not Mail" list similar to the "Do Not Call" lists we have here. Imagine not having to deal with the junk, just like not having to deal with the telemarketers...

Alternator belt replacement help
I'll give it a shot tomorrow, and if it fails, I'll be trying E_racers' idea, unless something else comes to mind. Will update as warrented, be it good or bad.

Stripped Heater Valve screws
Well, you could always try getting a standard screwdriver in there, that's what I do when the phillips is stripping or its gauge is larger than my phillips driver.

Alternator belt replacement help
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but it’s got me stumped. I need to change the alternator belt, but do not know how to get to it. Obviously, I need to remove the power steering/oil pump belt (#1 in the photo), the A/C compressor belt (#2), and finally the alternator belt (#3). I figured I would go ahead and replace all three at the same time, unfortunately, the parts store was out of the A/C belt. Anyway, I was thinking of removing the fan blade, loosening the idlers, and sliding the alternator in. However, I can’t see how to remove the fan blade. I can feel bolts on the front of the blade, and see others behind it, but I don’t want to inadvertently disassemble the fan clutch. Is removing the fan blade even necessary, or can the job be done with just loosening the idlers entirely, then wiggling the belts around it? My FSM is usually very helpful, but on this issue, it’s not. If you think something is missing in these photos, it’s the top half of the fan shroud, which I’ve already removed.

A sign of things to come for vintage Datsuns?
That's not a hijack, it is in keeping with what I started the thread on -(though I realize I didn't word it too well)- the appearance and appreciation of our vehicles in general interest periodicals; and the possibly detrimental effects it will have on the availability/driveability of quality vehicles. I love seeing attention given to our imports, but now that Automobile has focused attention on the 510, you just know that the price of them will shoot up. There are benefits and drawbacks to this, of course. Benefit-niche shops will continue (or resume) production of NLA parts. Drawback-As Victor stated, parts will become more expensive, as the demand raises, and supply dwindles.

My 240z (die-cast) was kidnapped!
Here's an idea- 1. Get lots of cellophane (Saran Wrap, or a cheaper generic) 2. Find an accomplice 3. Wait for an overcast, rainy day. 4. Wrap your coworkers car, being sure to go over/under the car, binding the doors. Imagine having to unwrap your car in the rain...

New Hot Wheels 240Z
That's just sad...It obviously isn't an accident. The window coloring in the white one is blue, while the yellow one has dark tinting that is almost black (not blue). Why Hot Wheels chose to keep it as #36/38 is odd, since all it does is cause confusion. Maybe they should call the white on a Series 1 car, and the yellow a series 2...

A sign of things to come for vintage Datsuns?
The first Japanese car that truly mattered. Just got my January '07 edition of Automobile and was pleased to see that the Datsun 510 has been featured in thier Collectible Classic section. Stop by the store and pick up a copy, or just flip over to page 106. I don't have a scanner, just my camera phone, so here are some poor quality shots to whet the whistle.
