I would love to keep the car looking period correct, since the design is so clean and distinctive (yes, I agree that the earlier models are sexier), but like the thought of having modern guts doing the work, especially braking. There are several tasteful bodykits out there, and I still think about the ZX Gnose kit I found available in England.

Throw it away and it'll be a Pentagone.
  3. Everyone-this is just one of the many reasons to give blood. It's great to read that the Brock family is pulling through this-it is hard to keep a good man down, I'm sure Mr. Brock will be up and about in no time.

Absolutely. But keep in mind that my ZX is from 4/79. My key works for all my locks-doors, ignition, gas, and hatch. I thought that I had seen replacements for sale that differentiated between my build year, and the following years, so this could just be a matter of parts being shared from one gen to the next, as seen with 240/260/280 parts.

AARGH! Just missed it. Repeats at 1 a.m. EST, or 10 p.m. PST, for our West Coasters

While it might be on the fringe of "car movies," Repo Man should be included, or at least considered.

from my ZX (for comparision, if the slots/grooves are different)
  9. We have a few members down there, Mckrack-this guy is just about 20 minutes north of you-maybe you should check him out for our fellow roadster owners.

Yes and yes. Dakar highlights have been on Speed channel for a few weeks, and Baja is doing very well. Rally coverage in the US has never been good, quite surprising what with the success of the Evo and WRX. I didn't see Tucker on your list, perhaps that should be included. The World's Fastest Indian would be worth checking out, even though it deals more with motorcycles (more specifically A Motorcycle), its got some great Bonneville salt flat footage.

to add another couple of Disney films- Herbie goes to Monte Carlo Condorman (cheesy comedy, lot's of Porshe 911's being destroyed) The Great Race must be included! Here's why http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059243/ Then again, for the real thing-Dust to Glory which is about the Baja 1000, our continent's version of the Dakar Rally. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386423/
  15. Hi

Another 79! Please post some photos of your zx, I'd love to see them, and so would everyone else (they're just being shy). What's your build date? I'd be curious to see how close our cars are.
  16. Sounds like a great time, and only about 5 hours away!

Out of curiosity, what direction is the tape supposed to be wound? I would think it should go in the direction of the thread; i.e clockwise, if the thread is of the Righty-tighty/Lefty-loosey variety. Am I correct in this assumption?
  18. Only on e-bay! This is the first body kit that seems to make the car smile (that I have seen), or at least that's the impression I get from it. Whoever did this body kit obviously put quite alot of time into it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-DATSUN-240Z-Customed-for-Racing-PLUS-Many-Extras_W0QQitemZ260076931258QQihZ016QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Note the cloth dash treatment-interesting look, though I wouldn't go that route.
  19. Personally, I like the detailed photos of the mint condition dash-cap. Quality. I once attended NIU (Northern Illinois University). Before even considering bidding on this car, I would need to see some photos of the underside. I wonder why none are posted. Rust anyone?
  20. But the "Z" IS yellow!

There aren't too many zx models on this site (I've got one of them), but much of the information found here is useful, especially information about the Fuel Injection system. What you should look for in your future Z (or ZX) is rust, among other things. Over at the Zhome, there is a great write up on what to look for, and where to look for it. http://zhome.com/ Scroll down to the "Z Ownership" section, and select "What to watch for" best of luck in your automotive search!

I don't think so-we are all broke (or at least I am), and indebted to our current obsessions-am I right? No, a car like this has better chances at Hershey or Auburn-two auctions that draw crowds of real people (and real cars). There are some stunners, and there are some real Pieces o c rap, generally parked next to each other, at these auctions. BJ is all about marketing and branding-they wouldn't dare water down thier reputation by offering a Z, not at this time, anyway.

You may also be surprised at how far that money will go, if you spend it wisely, and on the right things. As has been said, become familiar with the search function-it will help you figure out what is wrong (and right) with the car, before you go to the parts store. There is little worse than buying an expensive part that you think you need, only to find out otherwise. Best of luck, feel free to ask, and feel free to answer.
  24. Problem solved-- Have the wedding AT the convention!
  25. zbane posted a post in a topic in Open Discussions
Big Sur from 1996-2001; married in Salinas in 1997! Don't get out to visit often; but would like to move back to the area, perhaps after University...
